PGA and European Tour Golf 2016

Unlucky? That was a great shot from Rory. Lucky it didn't go off the green, and also lucky it didn't roll down the other side Butch!

I'm gonna email him and tell him in a minute! :nono:

Matsuyama just smashed it in to the bank to stop it when it popped up on the green. Such a beautiful and difficult shot. Much respect for that one. It's mind boggling how he did that, I'd have knocked it 50 feet past.

Then the muppet goes and under-hits the putt. :(

Spieth has battered Rory on the par 5's today. If he can't take him on those holes, he hasn't a hope elsewhere.

Rory's putt-reading has been all over the place today. Dull if Spieth just walks it tom.

Is Spieth more talented than Rory?
They're different players but Spieth has a more natural game.

Rory is a better athlete, strikes the ball better but at the same time a little more erratically.

Spieth is subtly brilliant. His putting is second to none.

Is Spieth more talented than Rory?

Talent is only one part of golf. Course management, mental strength, consistency, temperament, resilience are all so important. McIlroy has more god given talent in my opinion, and his swing is a thing of beauty. But Spieth is one of the best managers of a course I've ever seen and his putting is phenomenal.

That sounds harsh on Rory, he's obviously an incredible player, it's a matter of tiny degrees.

When you say more natural, how do you mean it? I always think Spieth's game is more studied and structured while Rory's is more natural and feel based.

Odd they use Dustin J in their ad. You too could choke at the last.

Spieth is United playing their best under LvG. Nothing spectacular and exceedingly safe but get the job done. Rory at his best is United under Fergie.

Drops club and walks away from another perfect sporting analogy! BOOM!

As I said with the following post, I'm talking very minor degrees, but for me the strongest side of Jordan's game is in and around the green which is all about feel. His putting is disgustingly good.

Rory strikes the ball incredibly well and has an immensely powerful swing but with such ferocity comes a natural tendency for more wayward shots when you're anything less than 100% 'on it'.

As they say, you drive for show and putt for dough.

Is Spieth more talented than Rory?

I don't like Rory. But in my opinion Rory is a much better player than Speith. The difference this week is Speith is making putts. He is a phenomenal putter. His all around game isn't anywhere near Rory's at his best. He's incredibly efficient. I reckon Rory will finish his career behind only Nicklaus and Woods. Speith will undoubtely have a great career. But I don't see him in that category.

Ah I get you. Yeah Spieth's short game is in a different class at the moment. I don't know whether it was the change of clubs or a change in his focus off the course, but McIlroy was a much better short game player in the past.

I still find Spieth's short game somewhat measured and unnatural looking though. It's brilliantly effective and maybe it's just his swing but I don't see it the same way as a Sevé or a Mickleson feels it from around the green. It's like he's a mathmetician or a scientist while they were artists.

Really? He seems like a difficult fella to dislike?

My missus hates him after he dumped his fiance tennis bird by text. Pretty cold.

I almost used that analogy but I thought the difference between them two is too big these days.

I think the gap between them is exaggerated lately, tbh, but that's a discussion for another thread I guess.

My mom hates him with the fury of a thousand suns. No idea why.....

Really? What's to like?

And people need to relax with the Speith-Messi analogy. Messi is by far the best soccer player in the world right now and arguably the best to ever play the game. Speith is neither of those in golfing terms.

Highlights showing how bad a round Rory has had, BUT!!! if anyone else had a round like that at Augusta they would be looking at 80+ That's testament to how good he is, even when he's playing as bad as he is today, and with the weather as bad as it was earlier.

Really? What's to like?

Friendly, polite, gets on well with his fellow golfers, can't really remember him ever having a controversial opinion on anything or a bad word to say about anyone. I can see someone thinking he's a bit vanilla but actively disliking him seems a bit much.

That's definitely true, Rory's short game is better than he's showing here, but I still put Spieth on another level.

I'm sounding really critical of Rory here, I don't mean to be.

I know why you're saying but swings are unique and difficult to compare, the result of the shots is most telling and his touch is very very good.

Mickelson is probably my favourite short game player ever though.

My missus hates him after he dumped his fiance tennis bird by text. Pretty cold.

That is pretty rough, but she was taller than him which is just wrong.

Please don't make me have that discussion!

I just watched the Joshua fight in the time between Spieth teeing up the ball and him hitting it.

 This could be a thing - Activities you can complete while Spieth addresses a shot.

I'm talking more style comparison than anything, tbh.

Aye, tbh it's a pretty tedious discussion at the best of times these days.
