Saw this on
www.pesfan.com A bloke rang in to Konami complaining bout the game.
Just got off to the phone with a nice Konami guy. I rang up to complain about the state of PES 2008, and the money i had spent on a 'barely playable' game.
Now when I say complain, I didn't lay into him or attack him personally (I hate complainers who do that). I basically told him that i just have to let someone at Konami know that I'm unhappy at being charged 50 quid for a game that is almost unplayable....and that konami knew was almost unplayable (i told him about the 'seabass' quote of how 'shocking' the PS3 slowdown was)....but released anyway.
The chap was very nice actually, he apologized, acknowledged that PS3 owners have a right to be upset, and that if he had bought the game he'd be just as annoyed. But he told me that
* Konami are definitely working on a patch- however he could not say when that would be released, as they'll only release it when its fully ready and when it deals with all the problems (ie. online and offline).
* They (Konami switchboard people) have been inundated with angry PS3 owners or PS3 owners asking 'how can i stop lag' for the last three days.
* Sony apparently have 'quality control' playtests before releasing a game (so God knows how they okayed it).
What reassured me was that the guy actually said 'sorry' to me. So many customer service reps are drilled not to say 'sorry' or admit any wrongdoing on the companies part....and they stick to a 'fob the customer off script'. A simple apology goes a long way.
I was also reassured by the guys' 'This is the 1000th time I've had this conversation' feel that PS3 owner pester power has made this patch a high priority. I REALLY got the impression that Konami know they've got to make this patch or else suffer huge damage to their company credibility.
Believe me Konami KNOW people are pissed off, and to their credit at least Kopnami UK are holding their hands up!!!!
As for my opinion on PES 2008, I should say I've played PES exclusively since the very first one, and this is the first game that has left me stumped.
Pros:
1.Ball dynamics are much better, deflections, curl etc are now pretty realistic.
2. Sliding tackles are now less effective, in previous versions with a bit of practice you could win the ball pretty much all the time, without giving away too many FK's. It's now more hit and miss, as in real life.
3. The shooting is more intuitive, you actually feel that a minute bit of curl etc on the ball makes all the difference, also you can now hit the ball in a more realistic way, and not just in a few particular directions when shooting from certain angles. Also volleying has been made somewhat easier, especially with good strikers of the bll. It was far too hit and hope in pes 6.
4. A.I-far better this time around, they will now hold the ball in the corner if the time is running down and they are leading. Also strikers now drive towards goal instead of often playing the ball backwards with some ridiculous through ball when clean through on goal, or shooting even though there is space to run into
Cons
1. The slowdowns. Dealt with elsewhere. Horrendous. Shows how little the consumer genuinely matters to large corporations.
2. The game is far too quick. To alleviate slowdowns, it is recommended to play on Normal Long camera angle. For some reason gameplay on that angle feels far faster than others, including Wide. In wide it's still too fast. Also it's too easy to dribble, oftne from one end of the pitch to the other. Playing as United this morning I was 4-3 up against Real in the last minute. They got a corner. The ball dropped to Vidic, and I comfortably ran the lenght of the pitch with him and scored. Unrealistic. For an example of this dribble with Henry or Cristiano Ronaldo. They just glide through defences without so much as having a foot put on them.
3. The game is far too easy. On top player it's quite easy to score 6 or 7 goals against a good team. It usualy takes a few days to get a good feel for the game, i was winning tournaments on my first night playing it, and I'm far from a wonderkid at this game.
4. The keepers. Horrible. they seem to think parrying the ball to the onrushing striker is a master tactic or something
