Pes 2008

360. Not mine though. Was over at a cousin's house for a couple of days. Played it there. Have it on PS2 as well. Played a few times, chucked it away.

The version on the PS2 is shit, in fact it's a different game (literally)to the ones on the Next Gen consoles.

I've never played it on the 360, I would guess it's the same as the PS3.

right, im going to be objective with some things that i've noticed..perhaps one of the FIFA brigade can do the same;

(based on playing PS3 version, aint played the 360 version yet)

Negatives
- some slowdown (can be improved by turning some things off)
- only 2 teams fully licensed
- slowdown on replays
- scholes has blond hair!
- referees are either too harsh or too lenient. Gary Neville is a marked man, as I had him sent off 3 times.

Plus Points
- easy to pick up and play (though requires hours of practice to pull of the real tricks)
- vast range of passes, shots, headers, volleys, tricks
- goalkeepers are neither too hard or too easy. They really are UNPREDICATABLE. I have had keepers pull of stunning saves but drop a catch or be beaten by a bounce.
- AI is more intelligent than before
- Download option files
- The game can be as easy as or as hard as you desire

The Teamvision thing is excellent. Certainly made the AI better. I find it harder to nudge players of the ball as well.

Get me a 360 then. Although I hate Xbox, so scrap that.

You beating someone 5-0 who clearly has no idea about the game and proceeded to put Hargreaves at centre back shows that you're great?? Get a fecking clue. And the fact that you could let someone like O' Shea dribble you from his own half, well does show that you're a bit crap.

I'm thought a loon by the FIFA boys, so I'm fine by that. Better than being known as Mcfeckwit by the whole forum though.

Mcfeckwit.

the forum has people such as yourself who like to talk to things they have no clue about (in your case football games). I'm sorry but im not in the habbit of buying clueless people Xbox 360s, they'd probably use them for paper weights and the like.

The 5 - 0 win meant absolutely nothing of what you've somehow read. All I said is he's obviously a pro evo fan and I beat him 5 - 0 in my first game. I think I made it ample clear that he was clueless when I mentioned he was playing hargreaves in central defence, lost 5 - 0, got 2 men sent off and gave away multiple penalties. Was that not clear?

I infact said it showed I was shite, I was just agreeing with you. I've played Pro Evo a lot, I'm pretty good but certainly not great. Not that it matters anymore as I wont be playing it all that much more. Still a decent game, but its just not realistic and those get boring after a while. It's why I like football sims, they last longer.

Again, Mcfeckwit. So case closed. That tagline itself shows that you have no right to judge people clueless when you're known here generally as Mcfeckwit and is as clueless as they come.

Mcfeckwit.

So basically you've given up your ill thought out argument and have just decided to keep the cursing and name calling. Fair enough.

Also, who's gamertag is "Mancmade" ? I'm guessing its one of you lot :p

jesus just go out and play football ffs

Fair point

Fifa 08 on new gen. was very impressive when I played it. (on 360)
It however is a totally different game on PC or PS2.

Pro evo 08 on the other hand is not as good as I'd have hoped, the main problem I have with it is the slow down. It ruins the flow of the game, kind of.

FIFA freaks have been saying for years how much better it is that Pro Evo. Every time there's a new release, they try and claim the new Pro Evo is somehow shitter... some of us foolishly believe them at first. Thankfully we still buy Pro Evo, and discover that once again, we've been fed a load of bullshit from the freaks. Stick with Pro Evo folks

I really do think the slowdown thing has been blown out of proportion. Its a 'slight' issue, nothing more than that. It does not ruin the gameplay nor the experience. Its does ruin the replays however, but who watched them anyway?

Konami are going to release a patch in the near future will should get rid of all the slowdown aswell as improve online play (which is apparently shocking due to lag.)

Well I'm neither a PES or Fifa freak.

Over the last few years, I've bought both games, but ended up selling Fifa, as it's been shit. However, this years Fifa really impresses me (only on Next Gen consoles, the version on PS2, PC etc is made by different engineers and is literally a different game) and I'm not going to bother buying PES, as it really didn't impress me, when playing it.

It still feels and plays far, far too fast

It may be better than FIFA, but it's gone back on itself by a good 2-3 years here

Having been playing Pro Evo 6 for the last 2 months after selling the previous latest copy I had while it was worth anything, I can categorically make it clear that your statement is utter bullshit Noods!!! Though great at the time, to play now when you've seen what its become, it feels clunkier, more rigid, and feck me didn't take much to give away a free kick at all

Never trust a man who tells you FIFA is better than Pro Evo. That's a sound life motto I swear

This has been true for many a year, but not this one.

Its really best to get both and decide for yourself.

Online is a fecking farce

I'm mega pissed off at this game

Ah, the PS2 instalment is exactly the same as it's predecessor, infact, it's a scaled down version of it. I feel a bit ripped off actually.

The gameplay is a bit different. For starters, it's harder to shrug people off the ball. Keepers are better as well.

Am having a bit of fun with the World Tour mode as well, although am stuck at this one particular challenge. The Europe one. Dribble and score. No idea what I have to do actually. Dribbled the keepr and scored but didn't get the credit for it.

It has always been, they pay very little attention to details because they seem to think that PES is so far ahead of FIFA in terms of gameplay that they can even piss on players and get away with it. Shame.

I played the demo for FIFA 08 and thought it was the biggest pile of shite ever!

I bought the full game on release day and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was in reality completely different from the demo. The controls were responsive and most importantly the gameplay was excellent.

EA have really done themselves proud. They have closed the gap between FIFA and PES this year.

PES 08 as expected, plays like a dream. The player movement is so much more realistic than FIFA. However this game is not without its faults. The framerates issues are annoying, but what has been most dissappointing is the lightness of this years features. No PES Shop, Bare bones edit system and a piss poor Master league in comparison with FIFA's managaer mode.

My conclusion is that EA are taking the FIFA series in the right direction. With this in mind I have high hopes for next years edition.

Konami on the other hand really need to push the boat out next year. Ok so the game mechanics are perfect, but they really really need to flesh out the other aspects that FIFA curently is head and shoulders above on.

Both games offer excellent gameplay. If you are an online nut, then go PES. If you prefer playing offline go FIFA.

Last night on pro evo 2008. Xbox Live, me and my mate on the same team for a laugh against the computer. I have a shot which the keeper palms into the path of my mate...just as he is about to walk the ball in..the ref blows the whistle and its a corner kick. I hope this type of errors are fixable becuase i only got it for 360 becuase of Xbox Live.

Saw this on www.pesfan.com A bloke rang in to Konami complaining bout the game.

Just got off to the phone with a nice Konami guy. I rang up to complain about the state of PES 2008, and the money i had spent on a 'barely playable' game.

Now when I say complain, I didn't lay into him or attack him personally (I hate complainers who do that). I basically told him that i just have to let someone at Konami know that I'm unhappy at being charged 50 quid for a game that is almost unplayable....and that konami knew was almost unplayable (i told him about the 'seabass' quote of how 'shocking' the PS3 slowdown was)....but released anyway.

The chap was very nice actually, he apologized, acknowledged that PS3 owners have a right to be upset, and that if he had bought the game he'd be just as annoyed. But he told me that

* Konami are definitely working on a patch- however he could not say when that would be released, as they'll only release it when its fully ready and when it deals with all the problems (ie. online and offline).

* They (Konami switchboard people) have been inundated with angry PS3 owners or PS3 owners asking 'how can i stop lag' for the last three days.

* Sony apparently have 'quality control' playtests before releasing a game (so God knows how they okayed it).

What reassured me was that the guy actually said 'sorry' to me. So many customer service reps are drilled not to say 'sorry' or admit any wrongdoing on the companies part....and they stick to a 'fob the customer off script'. A simple apology goes a long way.

I was also reassured by the guys' 'This is the 1000th time I've had this conversation' feel that PS3 owner pester power has made this patch a high priority. I REALLY got the impression that Konami know they've got to make this patch or else suffer huge damage to their company credibility.

Believe me Konami KNOW people are pissed off, and to their credit at least Kopnami UK are holding their hands up!!!!

As for my opinion on PES 2008, I should say I've played PES exclusively since the very first one, and this is the first game that has left me stumped.

Pros:
1.Ball dynamics are much better, deflections, curl etc are now pretty realistic.
2. Sliding tackles are now less effective, in previous versions with a bit of practice you could win the ball pretty much all the time, without giving away too many FK's. It's now more hit and miss, as in real life.
3. The shooting is more intuitive, you actually feel that a minute bit of curl etc on the ball makes all the difference, also you can now hit the ball in a more realistic way, and not just in a few particular directions when shooting from certain angles. Also volleying has been made somewhat easier, especially with good strikers of the bll. It was far too hit and hope in pes 6.
4. A.I-far better this time around, they will now hold the ball in the corner if the time is running down and they are leading. Also strikers now drive towards goal instead of often playing the ball backwards with some ridiculous through ball when clean through on goal, or shooting even though there is space to run into

Cons
1. The slowdowns. Dealt with elsewhere. Horrendous. Shows how little the consumer genuinely matters to large corporations.
2. The game is far too quick. To alleviate slowdowns, it is recommended to play on Normal Long camera angle. For some reason gameplay on that angle feels far faster than others, including Wide. In wide it's still too fast. Also it's too easy to dribble, oftne from one end of the pitch to the other. Playing as United this morning I was 4-3 up against Real in the last minute. They got a corner. The ball dropped to Vidic, and I comfortably ran the lenght of the pitch with him and scored. Unrealistic. For an example of this dribble with Henry or Cristiano Ronaldo. They just glide through defences without so much as having a foot put on them.
3. The game is far too easy. On top player it's quite easy to score 6 or 7 goals against a good team. It usualy takes a few days to get a good feel for the game, i was winning tournaments on my first night playing it, and I'm far from a wonderkid at this game.
4. The keepers. Horrible. they seem to think parrying the ball to the onrushing striker is a master tactic or something

Online play with PES 2008 (PC) is rather fun I think. Played a few matches and it's very much enjoyable.

Has anyone played both the PS3 and the Xbox versions then? I have very little complaints with my Xbox version, put in a few hours earlier today and it's really starting to settle for me now. I notice the framerate thing on replays, but never during a game. I can only assume they've cocked it up for the PS3 then?

Yeah, although not the 360 online...

The ps3 online is awful, it lags terribly, offline its a good game tho.

From what I've read about the 360 its better than the PS3 online but no where near perfect. Offline its a great game, but not as great as I had hoped.

Will get the 360 online and let you know what I feel about that. Are you on live Brad?

2 things that irk me about this game:

Due to how fast it is, it's almost impossible to tackle.

The keepers are utter utter utter gash...played 8 games vs my mate so far...all but 1 have been high scoring...normally resulting in a parry from the keeper.

Was thinking of subscribing to live, but I've heard horror stories about the Pro Evo lag, and given that's all I'll be using it for, am holding off til they sort it

Pro 2008 sucks monkey arse! I have been playing Pro since it's days on the SNES, and this is the poorest footy game konami have ever released. It doesn't even feel like pro, it feels like I'm playing fifa. The joy of scoring a goal has also gone, which is a big step away from how it used to be. Don't even get me started on the slowdown...

When you do let me know, I'll give you a game!

I think you get a free months trial don't ya?

It's dogshit. Bought it on the way home from work and I'm extremely pissed off with it. The gameplay doesn't seem that different to the previous one (which I didn't like too much anyway). Like Spammy says it feels like a scaled down version.

Will give it another go tomorrow but I think I've just wasted 25 quid...

Yeah, don't you just hate that feeling of being conned? It's fecking horseradish is what it is. I'm still thinking about getting it for the PC, as it's £17 on Asda.co.uk (classy), but I'm really annoyed with Konami right now. I might have to write a letter of complaint telling them how incredibly stupid they are just so I can attempt to justify buying it again.

I dont have any problems tackling or intercepting and in agreeing with Brophs post, I do like that they've reduced the effectiveness of sliding tackles. In fact I think Brophs points were pretty much nail on head.

Channel 4's Game Test, reckons the PS3 version is awful and suffers from major slowdown, but the 360 one isn't as bad and for this reason is clearly the best version.

(and fanboys, do one)
