Pes 2008

Only slowdown on the 360 I've seen is on replays, and then its only a bit jittery on certain angles.

You on live yet Spoony?

In my master league, i seem to score loads of headers from corners. Is it just me or is it happening with everyone else too? I'm on top player by the way.

In my first 2 games rio and vidic had scored 2 each, then i put silvestre in for vidic due to tiredness:p and he scored 1 too.

Yea i seem to score alot of goals from corners. But i also seem to concede my fair share.

I starting the Master League with United but found it too easy, so i started again as Reading. Its a hell of a lot harder!

Well I'm neither a PES or Fifa freak.

Over the last few years, I've bought both games, but ended up selling Fifa, as it's been shit. However, this years Fifa really impresses me (only on Next Gen consoles, the version on PS2, PC etc is made by different engineers and is literally a different game) and I'm not going to bother buying PES, as it really didn't impress me, when playing it.
Totally agree.

This years next-gen FIFA is shocking good, its as close to realism you can get.

I'm a huge PES fan and always hated Fifa, but i put my hands up and admit PES 2008 is a big let down, the game speed is waaaaaaay to fast and the keepers are shite, they fumble the ball back into play far too often. Its like an arcade game ffs!!

So called "next-gen" Konami are ripping us off.

If you have a PS3 or 360 --- Fifa is the game to buy if you want realism
If you have a PS2 ---- Buy PES 2008

I think i'll stick with united. Hopefully once im in the uefa championships it should get harder.

For everyone with the pc version, there's an official patch out now, no idea what it does though...

Patch

just seen this on another forum

Here folks does anyone know if something might be wrong here?

I have hooked my ps3 up to my modem in my house via ethernet cable etc and can get it online without any problems. But when I go to try play match online I cant seem to connect to opponents.

I have tried doing a quick search or setting up a match room and so on but still no joy?

Any Ideas?????????

i've just bought a copy of fifa 08 to see what the fuss is about. I'll post my thoughts once i've played it.

why do i find it impossible to dribble in fifa?

I'm a little disappointed to be frank. Whenever I get a new PES, I start by playing a new League season with United. Within the first 10 games, I've beaten Arsenal 4-0, Liverpool 4-0 and Chelsea 6-1 all on Top Player. It's too easy to score imo. I haven't got online yet, but I imagine that defending against a human opponent must be nigh on impossible.

It seems more people are starting to realise that FIFA has wiped the floor with Pro Evo this year.
Played Pro Evo at a mates again yesterday and it really is inferior. What the hell have they done to the in game speed? The keepers are also shoddy.

And good on you uae, don't try dribbling Pro Evo style, though. It really isn't possible unless you have someone like Ronaldo or Messi.

I had a slow down during the match for the first time yesterday. It's obviously pretty rare but it still happens on the 360 and not just in replays.

why do i find it impossible to dribble in fifa?

Because you haven't got used to it yet, or you're used to this game where you can dribble with anyone with just the directional buttons and the occasional tap of sprint. Practise makes perfect.

so how am i supposed to dribble then? use tricks and stuff? how do i do the tricks?:P

You'll get used to it. What do you think so far of the game?
To do tricks, hold LT and move the right analogue stick. I rarely use them to be honest.

First things first, dont sprint from the start. Dribble with the directions only. When you see an incomming tackle, spring forwards (if your player is faster than the opponent) into space. Some players are good using the right stick to make sharp turns too. I hardly ever lose the ball dribbling with Giggs - I wait until an opponent comes over and then press the right stick forwards and Giggs glides past him. Nani and Tevez do it decently too - But Giggs is my favourite player to do that with.

If you use sprint from the start you'll just run straight into the first person who tries to tackle you.

will try this. Only played a couple of games. It's not too bad. Still find the keepers are too good on one on ones mind.

A few things that annoy me:

Keepers save almost all one on ones.

Keepers parry far too many shots directly infront of them for an opposing player to tap in.

Good players are, far too good. Sometimes its impossible to defend against the likes of Ronaldinho, Messi etc...

The game runs way too fast.

The referee's are a disgrace.

So that's fairly realistic then?

There's a distinct difference between you not being very good, and the game not being very good you know!

I can't for the life of me understand what people mean with the game 'running too fast' thing. Some of the better players are very tough to stop, but that's part of the challenge. I've scored plenty of one and one's on keepers, but it's also much tougher to take it round them, which is good. The last version you'd essentially scored whenever you got one on one if you knew what you were doing, so they've tightened it up a bit. Had a few parries to opposition players, but that happens! Thing that irks me more is the number of times my defender seems to take the ball off the keeper and put it in his own net, or at least release it from the lads hands. I have a high ratio of comically conceeded own goals at the moment, and it's ceasing to amuse me!

On Fifa? I dont really have that problem, unless I try and dribble past the keeper. That can be hard at times.

A tip is to shift the ball left or right before you shoot when one on one. Just as real life, it gives you a better angle.

That's exactly what you need to do. To be honest, i don't really miss one on ones.
Adding the finesse button to the Fifa series was a brilliant idea.

I was just playing against Blackburn and they had a player booked for diving :D It was David Dunn the little cnut

Really loving this game now, needs some fine tuning though. The refs especially are fecking horrid, although it seems only when I'm playing against European teams. I think games within the Premiership have far less strict refs, which is a good thing but to make other European refs so ridiculously strict sucks my ass

I just played the demo of Pro Evo on the PS3 and have to say was pretty shocked by it compared to FIFA. I thought it may be down to the demo, but having spoken to friends who have bought it (and from reading comments on here), I think it is just down to the game itself.

I know people always say that FIFA is for kids and Pro Evo is for real football fans, but after having played the two games I cannot agree.

This year it seems as though Pro Evo is the game for kids and for those who want a fast, high-scoring game, whereas FIFA is the much more realistic football game. This may be hard to swallow for the die-hard Pro Evo fans, but I firmly believe it to be the case.

Back to FIFA tonight methinks.

I'm so disappointed with this game I'm going to sell it. I used to love Pro Evolution Soccer, it was immense but this latest game has gone backwards. It is unrealistic, has poor graphics, poor game play and just doesn't look or feel like a Pro Evolution Soccer game.

I've cried myself to sleep ever since I purchased it.

It's always been unrealistic. It was actually good enough though up untill around 2002/2003 simply because more couldn't really be expected with the technology of the time. Since then though it hasn't kept pace with advances in technology at all and has been well behind the times for a few years.
It really went downhill with PES4 which was badly broken unfortunately. I thought they had a decent platform to build on with pes3 but they have gone in the wrong direction completely. Shame because I played it hardcore back in the day, and football truely deserves a good game, of which there are none.
Can't wait to try this years FIFA. Really hope it's decent. Does anyone know if it has real physics?

Not sure what all the complaints are about really, there's not much changed since the 360 version last year and it still pisses all over FIFA for game play.

Only problem I have with it is that they keep removing features for no apparent reason and the editing is shite, particularly for the 360.

iw as playing it last nite and ive got the hang of it now .. after actually sitting down and playing properly tis a good game ONCE YOU GET USED TO IT

Well I don’t actually own PES 2008 yet and not sure I will bother at the moment, I had it on pre order for 29.99 at Shoptonet but they change the price to £39.99 so I cancelled it which is a bit of blessing in disguise.
I have however be playing it at a friends and am disappointed, I am a huge PES fan and its release was one of the reasoning buying a PS3 at this stage; however Konami latest offering is a bit of a joke. I wasn’t really expecting it to blow me away with a ton of new features but just be a solid next generation update as the first game in the series for each console is always a little rough round the edges, but this was below expectations.
There is a review of it from gamespot which is quite harsh and brutal however I have to agree with the majority of it. It is a game that has been rushed and seems unfinished.
To be honest the rrp is a rip off, I went into Gamestation and they had it for £49.99, I know it up to the retailer to set their prices but Konami knew there were big problems with the game but still decided to release in it current form, they should have either held out and fixed the bugs or released it at a cut price of of £20 -£25, however it not the first time Europe gets shafted even if we got the game first.

I have since downloaded the demo and love behold the game froze my PS3, its seems to not like me picking Brazil or Portugal, anyway the demo was just as bad, the frame rate problem were still there, I played 3 games and switched it off. I then decide to try it with my dualshock pad and it did feel a lot better and after couple of games you get into it more and discover the old fluid gameplay is still there.
In all honesty it’s not all bad and provided a patch is made available it’s a very playable game. Out of the box I would give it’s a 6 out of 10 but with a patch and a roster and kit update from those wonderful people that make the option files I would give it a 8. To get anything more it will need a graphical update and some gameplay and animation tweaks.

EDIT:

I have been hearing that the Winning Eleven demo is out and is a lot better and very smooth; even some graphical tweaks have been made. I am not sure if this is the J league or the International version but I wont be purchasing Pes 2008 until a patch has been made or unitl Winning eleven international is out which is always the best version.

In response to my pervious post, I have played the Winning Eleven demo and I can confirm the game does not suffer from poor frame rates, the in game action is vey smooth and highly playable. The blurring crowd is still there and there is a slight drop in frame rate in the replay but I have really been looking out for it and is not really a issue at all, I am sure itl wont be there when the game is released. Its certainly nothing compared to pes2008.
Also there seems to be some gameplay tweaks, its just seem a lot more fluid and addictive.
The keepers seem better as well, I played 8 games this morning (missed my lecture in the process:nono:) and not once did he parry the ball back into play, everything was away from goal or out of play.
Graphically its just the same so not update there.
All in all this was pretty much the game I was expecting. Its out on the 22nd November in Japan, 27 days after the release of the European version, now why couldn’t they have just held back till the 22nd of November for all versions…..
As I mentioned before seems like the Europeans have been shafted again!
