Pes 2008

Has anyone else noted that Ashley Cole seems to be the best attackive player on the game? I find it easier to take players on with Cole than Messi. It is seriously fecked up in that department. Its also piss easy to run through the defence without the CPU even attempting to make a tackle.

FIFA 2008 doesn't even have rights to the Ghostbusters theme tune like Pro Evo does. How can you possibly say it's better?

To be honest, in comparison to Fifa, that looks piss poor.

Give it a go. Its a great game. There are a few minor faults, but a patch is soon to be released. The gameplay on it, is once again outstanding.

Having played both Fifa and Pro Evo, i must say that PES gameplay is FAR superior to that of Fifa. In PES you feel that you have full controll of the the players movement, whereas in Fifa, IMO you dont.

Seriously mate, give it a go; even if that means renting it from blockbuster for a few quid as a trail. Its a great game, and once you start playing PES, you will tell Fifa to feck off.:D

Couldnt be more wrong imo. You pick the ball up with Ronaldo and he does all the tricks for you, all you have to do is keep your finger on the sprint button and run past their defence.

On Fifa the players have full control of the ball and you have fun control of them. You move the ball as you would in real life - its somewhat harder, but also more worthwhile if you want a realistic experience.

On another note, Pro Evo has no PES shop even this year or am I missing it?

I didn't order PES lite :nono:

I highly doubt that. Fifa is simply the greatest football game I've ever played. Whereas PES is good fun, as you can dribble round 10 players before smashing it into the top of the net, Fifa is far more realistic, just the way I like it to be.

For me, this is wrong.
Get the ball with Ronaldo, Messi or Ribery, and all you need to do is change direction. It is far too easy. You can also play cutting balls without too much difficulty.

On Fifa, if you're against someone decent, you get a sense of self actualisation when you take on just one player. This is actually hard to do if you are a player who isn't assosciated with their dribbling skills. You also have to abuse the first touch stick, and getting that wrong will almost certainly result in losing the ball unless you are someone like Wayne Rooney with brilliant strength and control.

Sometimes you actually have to run towards the ball when it is passed to you to make sure it isn't intercepted. The days of passing aimlessly into any direction only for it to go to a player are also long gone.
This makes the game so much more playable, and unlike many others, you are not likely to kill it within a few weeks.

How exactly?

Flaws on Fifa (Compared to PES)

The Goalkeepers are Supermen
The likes of Henry find it terribly difficult to take anyone on with shire speed
You can score 'the same goal'
The CPU scores 8 out of 10 free kicks
The referee's are wearing white boots
You cannot take quick free kicks
The players look like cartoons (But some PES players look like retards)
The 'Fifa Street' skill
The CPU never attempts to take you on(unless you foolishly dive in)
The AI is not very good

Now i could carry on my list, but im tired and i need to be up at 8(which is a piss take)

Good Night.

P.S I also expect you to make a simular list to mine, but commenting on the flaws on PES. Should be interesting on who can come up with more.

Flaws on Fifa (Compared to PES)

The Goalkeepers are Supermen Learn to shot properly.
The likes of Henry find it terribly difficult to take anyone on with shire speedI can belt it down the wing with Ronaldo I iamgine I could do the same with Henry
You can score 'the same goal' try a variation in your shooting instead of shooting in the same places.
The CPU scores 8 out of 10 free kicks Don't be foolish to give away free kicks in dangerous areas.
The referee's are wearing white boots not noticed
You cannot take quick free kicks Minor disadvantage
The players look like cartoons (But some PES players look like retards) Erm yeah, rock on with that one.
The 'Fifa Street' skill There is no fifa street skill
The CPU never attempts to take you on(unless you foolishly dive in) try it on professional or above
The AI is not very good I'd say it was pretty decent..nothing ground breaking, but then i bet PES isn't either.

I'll come up with a list tomorrow, but here is my reply to yours:

The Goalkeepers are Supermen- I've not experienced that once, and to be honest that probably more your poor shooting then anything else.
The likes of Henry find it terribly difficult to take anyone on with shire speed- Maybe if your shit at the game, but I've taken the ball round plenty of players using shire speed with the likes of Ronaldo, Hernry etc
You can score 'the same goal'- Again, I've not experienced that once.
The CPU scores 8 out of 10 free kicksI have to agree with this, it is a joke really.
The referee's are wearing white bootsJesus, now your being way to picky.
You cannot take quick free kicks- Again, I can't argue, that is a flaw.
The players look like cartoons (But some PES players look like retards)- The players and surroundings(stadiums etc) look far more realistic then PES.
The 'Fifa Street' skill:confused:
The CPU never attempts to take you on(unless you foolishly dive in)I've had other players take me on.
The AI is not very goodTotal lie. The AI is very good IMO, far better than any other sporting game I've played.

When I say Fifa is more realistic I mean that it plays like real football is played. The ball and players don't travel at 100mph and you have to build up your play, waiting for gaps in the defence and playing the killer ball. You simply can't run past everyone or smack the ball in from 40 yards over and over again. If you do score a thunderbolt it's so rewarding, not like PES, where every other goal is stunner. You have to think about your play far more, and take your chances when you get them.

Agreed. Through balls have to be perfect as well none of this tapping the button watching your attacker run through 2 defenders and collecting the ball you have to have the space and timing to do it. The play on system seems pretty fair as well. I'm finding it very hard to fault FIFA08. I just need to get some consistency in my play.

Anyone else find that Fifa is so more rewarding than any other football game ? When you score a well worked goal, it's like, YES! I really aren't that.

I need to get some more practise in on the game. I've been hooked on the manager mode. Been trying to collect all the shitty stickers in the stickerbook to unlock new stuff. Trying to do 15seasons done 12 so far.

Use finesse or simply more power. The keepers are as good as they should be.
Wrong. That is one of the only ways you can beat a player.
You can score ridiculous goals on Pro Evo that would never even be possible.
I haven't encountered this problem but i never really concede them. Not aggresive enough.
Shite criticism.
Quick free kicks never really come to much on Pro Evo.
I find the players to look fantastic. This is one of Fifa's main advantages.
What is this? Only the very best players on the game can pull off the extravagant skills. The rest could be pulled off by your average local club player.
It does occasionally but the game is designed so that taking on a player is very difficult. They make some brilliant passes that i couldn't do if i tried, so sometimes it isn't necessary.

right you FIFA fecks, get into your own thread. This one is for Pro Evo lovers.

Pro Evo is still the king. I have spent the last 2 nights playing it, and the range of tricks, flicks and new animations in it is fantastic. And its not easy to do all of the tricks either. Can you do the 'Rabona' or the 'tunnel trick' in FIFA?

Rabona

Tunnel trick

Really, if you're obsessed with graphics and how the players look, then stick with FIFA, if you want gameplay play the finished version of Pro Evo, not the demo!

Yeah, I'm enjoying PES a lot more now, can play some pretty intricate football. Maybe I'll download FIFA just for shits and giggles but once the modding community chucks tons of new faces and kits and stadiums etc... into PES there'll be no competition as usual

i like the fact you can now stick your own face on a player in the game, im gonna get a picture of my arse and stick it on

It's a hell of a lot more than that now. It may seem like it but I am not completely biased. I used to play a lot of Pro Evo, but this Fifa is flawless and better than PES in almost every aspect.

"The likes of Henry find it terribly difficult to take anyone on with shire speed"

That is seriously bollocks. The time I played with my friend and I was Barcelona, he was pissed off at how fast Henry.

"The players look like cartoons (But some PES players look like retards)"

Seriously, can't believe you are even faulting the graphics.

"The 'Fifa Street' skill"

The skill on Fifa is the best a football game has had, so much variety as well.

... and I've been playing Pro 6 most of the time on my 360 until I got this.

The people who have PES, would you say it's improved since the demo?

Similar, slight improvements, like the game isnt as fast paced as the demo.

I'd say it's a good game so far, still havent quite warmed up to it yet but it's all good. Some of the players look rather realistic, but it's quite shocking to see Ginger price Scholes having blonde hair.

The truth is that Pro Evo shits on fifa. It's not even close. Pro Evo is amazing on my big feck of telly.

you must be playing a different pro evo then.

Fifa is much better this year on next gen systems, Pro Evo is just a lazy effort from Konami.

again, you seem to be judging your game by the graphics

gameplay has always been Konami's market, and they've done it again

FIFA players always look like cartoons. Their heads look choppy. I wouldn't say FIFA graphics are that amazing at all. At best I can appreciate all the kit licences but I do concede that in this year's Pro, graphics are turd

Spammy's PES 2008 (PS2) Review (yay).

Yesterday, while in Asda, I discovered the lure of PES2008 was too strong and took it upon myself to purchase this product on the format of the PS2. It cost me a whole score and a few pennies, not bad value, that said, I could have got it on the PC for about five squid less online, but it was all shiny and stuff and the moment took me.

Anyway, I played it round a mates house last night after a few drinks, and decided it warrants a review from me on here (I'm too kind to you all).

Firstly I'll list the differences from the last game, then I'll go on to compare indepth with the infinitely mentioned rival game - FIFA.

Differences to PES6 in general:

- The commentary is a lot better
- The menu has some nice plinky sounds
- There's only two licensed Premiership teams; not Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal or Utd, they plumped for the ever popular Tottenham and Newcastle. Konami probably caved in to the pressure from those massive world wide fan bases.

Differences to PES6 in Gameplay:

Reasons why it's better than FIFA:

It's PES.

The End.

Important question about PES:

Can anyone confirm that the two made up teams, "WE United" and "PES United" are still on the game?

thats why you can download option files, my brother has alll the correct badges already and correct kits

alternatively you can use the editor yourself

GB, is it possible to download an option file and change kits and badges for PS2, or is that only for PC?

the wee brother did it on his ps3

im sure that sooner or later you'll be able to do it on the ps2 as well.

i remember when he had the ps2, he used to use a device called a 'slip tool' which came with its own boot cd. Basically it allowed you to play copied games. he was forever updating pro evo with option files for kits, players, footballs, stadiums.

Yeh, Swap Magic, I was thinking of getting that. My cousin leant me his cheat CD for PES 5 and I had all the correct badges, team names and the like. Then my option file went corrupt and he lost the CD so I couldn't copy over the file to my PES 6 :(

The truth is that Pro Evo shits on fifa. It's not even close. Pro Evo is amazing on my big feck of telly.

Yeh right. The gap in class between Fifa and Pro Evo this year is staggering. It is Pro Evo that does not come close.
