Yep, fully agree with that. I have also been in the camp of replacing AdM with another shining name like Bale, Reus, Müller etc.

Meanwhile I have changed my mind and think Pedro would be a great fit - especially considering his asking price which is quite low for a player of his quality and age in nowadays market.

I am still a bit sorry that AdM is leaving but Pedro could turn out to be a brilliant purchase.

In my opinion Pedro is not a stellar player who will win games on his own. But have a feeling he will fit the system very well.
I also like his knack of making intelligent runs and popping-up to make a simple tap-in. I'm all for getting this player.

This is where my questions lie, will LVG be up to starting the 3 of them or is one of them always going to be sitting at the start? If he does go that way, who will sit among Carrick, Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger? Hopefully injuries will not dictate lineups as much as last year and we will get a good idea of what LVG wants to do tactics wise. Personally I was looking forward to seeing more of Mata & Herrera but adding Pedro will probably mean one of those three is sitting every game. Might get glimpses though!
I pray he does tbh. Mata has proved his worth at this club and he should be in that starting 11. Young hasnt proved as much as Mata has in his time at our club let alone the league, mixed with his age etc and whilst I like Young he should be a squad player now. It is a predicament. I personally (on paper) would prefer the Herrera, Schneiderlin, Carrick/Schweinsteiger 3 man midfield but I want Mata included so if Pedro is purchased then it does change things quite a bit. You can imagine the chemistry the 3 of them would create though. Would be amazing for us so for that reason alone all 3 should be in tbh.

If you're talking about di Maria, then yeah, the year they won the CL he was up there with Ronaldo.

No he wasn't, nowhere near C.Ronaldo. I'd argue that Ramos + Modric were more influential than Di Maria as well.

People seem to be looking at his last 6 months for Real & believing that to be the level he's played at throughout his whole career. It's not. He was a very good player for them but that 6 months was an anomaly compared to his whole time there.

That is the thing, people got far too carried away. Saying that if he had played for Arsenal I bet we would have seen much better performances. Van Gaal has a very particular way of playing and doesn't seem like the type to change for anyone. Think Di Maria needed more man management and that is not something Van Gaal has ever been good at that. Also it was quite clear that he never really wanted to join you in the first place. Some did say so on other forums and were accused of being bitter. Your lot were willing to pay what R.Madrid wanted whereas PSG weren't.

Don't remember anyone said that at all .

If I could be bothered I would happily find you examples, not hard to find in the thread where it was announced he had signed. People were also claiming he'd be the best player in the league.

Pepe was better than Ramos, but I agree with your general point, Di Maria wasn't their best player, in my opinion it was Modric by a distance.

I remember that season well. Isco was their best player in the first half of the season so much so that he was being compared with Zidane, remember Ancelotti's quotes 'Isco is very close to Zidane in ability' in September. By December Isco was their only player to have scored and assisted home and away and he had already done that twice. However he had a couple of bad games in Jan and was benched for the remainder of the season. It was around this time that Di Maria took over so much so that he was even beginning to play as number 10 in the middle and he was possibly their best player for the remainder of the season.

Isco was very good, but no one has been better than Modric, he is their best player since Mourinho last season.

Im sorry i don't buy that. Modric is undoubtedly a great player and one of their best players but lets be rational. First season he struggled. Second season he was great(this is the one we are talking about). Third season he missed half the games due to injuries. I can't accept that he's been their best player since Mourinho's last season.

I take it he doesn't count Ronaldo as a footballer then? :p

Can't actually access the video, so..

It's no big deal Amol. Just the "Our survey said - ah ahh" bollox..

Good discussion though man & we dont need to agree with everything we say, more importantly too. It's our opinion's that make the Caf so appealing to all of us. You know that better than most of us too..

Peace & goodwill fella :)

Any news on this? I see the Norwegian Barcelona fansite talking about it as if it's bound to happen. Don't know how well informed they are, though...

They're only going by what we're going by mate - hearsay..

But all the reports seem positive that we'll sign him though - possibly by the weekend or after the super-cup, but the "Gamper" match was alleged to be the send-off for Pedro though, as it was the home game for him.

Didnt seem to happen unfortunately, which is a shame if it were us that prevented that from happening because of a very few small quid or details. He deserves a proper send-off.

All in all - it's very positive that he signs for us very soon man..

I do, but I don't think that he is the best or the second best.
Seriously? It's amazing how he and Messi are taken for granted now after scoring around 50 goals per season consistently.

Yep. Only once they are done, and we are left with mediocrities (relatively speaking) like Hazard, Neymar, Sanches, etc, will be think back and realize how good they were.

If Barca president Josep Bartomeu gets his way, Pedro will not be leaving the club, however.

"There is nothing on Pedro, there isn't any official offer (on the table)," Bartomeu was quoted as saying in Marca.

"He is a Barca player and we want him to continue at Barca. To win the six competitions (we are in), we need the best players and Pedro is one of them."

Pedro came off the bench to play the final 29 minutes of Barcelona's 3-0 friendly win over Roma at the Nou Camp on Wednesday night.

It has nothing to do with being taken for granted, it's just about what I rate more, I believe that the best players are one who make the team tick, that's why I think that David Silva is better than Aguero and Modric has been better than Ronaldo. I tend to always rate the engine over the turbo.

Between what Graham Hunter was saying on Talksport earlier and what Ballague has said in his tweet, then it's only a matter of time before this happens.

Hunter basically said as soon as Pedro intimates to Barca that he wants to leave, then they will accept this and let him go. No offer from us as yet, but both sides are aware of the figure required to sign him.

With Ballague confirming we have an agreement with Pedro then it's only a matter of us making the necessary bid and then things should be concluded quickly.

I can only assume we haven't yet bid as we're waiting on confirmation of ADM's move to PSG.

Not buying this notion that the club have not bid because they are waiting on the Di Maria deal to go through.

Well you are probably right not to buy it because a lot of the reports are saying the delay is due to Barca wanting to keep him until after the Super cups. Most likely it has nothing to do with ADM.

totally agree. Once that happens today, we will immediate conclude this deal. I can see him being in and his number registered in time to face Spurs at the weekend tbh. Spurs must be shitting it. With our new midfield and strengthening uptop with Depay and Pedro all whilst keeping De Gea in goal.

I'm starting to think this is all just a rumour that's been perpetually recycled or worse Pwdro looking for rexognution with no intention of leaving. We'd certainly be in a rush to secure this signing so what the hell is supposedly holding it up if true?

Cheers man, and I agree.

Think this will be done after the Super Cup. Not only cause that's what the majority of rumours say but from a Barca perspective it makes sense.

A club like theirs is pretty much guarenteed trophy success every season so the next target is to win more trophies, pretty hard when you've done the treble but they'll be competing for 6 this year. So they probably place more emphasis on these "friendlies" than we would and they'll want to win all of them. With Neymar and Messi only just coming back from a long summer they've only really got Suarez and Pedro up to speed for this first cup. They should have more than enough quality without Pedro but I can understand if not agree with their rational of keeping him till they've bagged it.

Take it positively, it's a sign of how much Barca rate him.

Won't he be tied to them for europe then?
Would be shit for us.

Well normally that can make a certain amount of sense. However, we're talking about a player who scored 112 goals in 101 games in the last two seasons. That is insane.

There is no doubt that losing Ronaldo would hurt Madrid far more than losing... anyone else, really. Modric or Isco or Bale or Benzema or whoever.

Come one Barca! Sick of this "let's just use him for this game...oh and this one", that's what the fee is for ffs. So that he doesn't play for you anymore. The season starts soon, just take the cheque and feck off.

When is this fecking Super Cup thing over?
"First up will be the two-legged Spanish Super Cup, with the ties to be played home and away on August 14 and 17. Athletic Bilbao, who Barca beat in the Copa del Rey final in May, will provide the opposition, and are also the Spanish champions’ first league opponents, on August 23. Sevilla, the Europa League winners for a second consecutive season last term, will play the Catalans next Tuesday in Tblisi, Georgia, in the European Super Cup final."

there is no way we are waiting for them. Di Maria will go through today, and at the same time we will activate his release clause. He will be a Utd player before Spurs game I can see it.
