With Liverpool and Chelsea supposedly out of the running, United are free & clear so long as the €30 million clause is met. If Woodward tries to cheap it, Pedro will remain. Lucho underscored that point this am

€30 million is a steal to be fair, he's a complete team player and adds goals from wide areas. I can see him being a real success if Mata plays just behind Rooney.

Rio Ferdinand basically ejaculated writing about Pedro in his autobiography. Thought he was amazing when he played against him.

Do you remember what he said?
It was right next to me as you asked, so here you go...

"When people talk about that Barcelona team they usually focus on Xavi, Iniesta and Messi. For me, though, the real killers were the wingers, Pedro and David Villa"

He then writes a paragraph about how he was fast, skilful and how they pinned United's defense backwards. Then...

"Pedro was disciplined, intelligent and always did the right thing for his team; he never showboated or did flashy skills. For me, he was the one who really made them tick"

He then says he was the best at pressing the ball, was very aggressive and his team followed behind him.

Sounds like Ashley Young. yeah I said it

Thanks.

Really are aiming low with our wide players if he replaces Di Maria.

He would be a quality signing - I think he'll surprise the detractors in this thread. He's not Suarez or Neymar but he's in the tier below and at £22m is a complete steal. He would probably cost £35m-£40m in the open market.

Pedro :-

- Great at running behind defence. Always gives midfielders passing options.
- Accurate dribbler. Doesn't waste dribbling attempts on low percentage one's.
- Accurate passer. Perfect for such a system as ours demands.
- Capable goal scorer. Will contribute goals, definitely.
- Good work-rate. Great at pressing and was part of Pep's famous 'press from front' mentality.
- Tactically intelligent. Makes right choices based on teammate's positions.

There is almost no downside to purchasing Pedro. All I see is an upside.... and let's suppose that he hasn't been great for the past two years, well, that's roughly under the amount of years that Pep has not been at Barca. If you have the right system, he thrives. We're not as fluid as Barca were, but our approach isn't dissimilar. He may not be the individual Di Maria is, but when you examine him as a player and how that plays into how we approach the game...... he stands to contribute more than Di Maria would.

Feck me, talk about rose tinted glasses!

He also wrote this on twitter relating to a Classico "This diving is a joke/embarrassing. When Pedro watches that do you think he’ll think 'What was I doing!? Rugby players must laugh at football."

Yeah just 20 plus assist low.
I think he's really good footballer and will surprise a lot of people here. Generally it would be a really good signing. But he's not a replacement for the player we we paid for when we signed Di Maria.

Actually thought I was in the De Bruyne thread lol. But Pedro will add more goals than Di Maria even though Di Maria is clearly a level Above.

So with Pedro reportedly close to done, it surely bodes badly for one of our other wide players?

Di Maria
Young
Mata
Januzaj
Maybe even Fellani

Di Maria looks the obviously candidate at the moment.

I'm actually really in favor of signing Pedro. He's a class player IMO. It's just that we need that one top quality attacker if Di Maria goes IMO. Someone not unlike your favorite Bale.

Have Mundo Deportivo and rac1 given their views on this potential transfer?

How awesome would it be if he just walked up the field on Saturday in a United shirt and sat on our bench without anyone knowing he signed before the match lol.

Di Maria looks set to leave, Januzaz probably needs a loan. So Young, Memphis, Mata and Pedro is a good rotation. Only player who should be worried is Lingard, he's 22 and needs games having already gone out on loan if he fancies making it at United.

All signs point towards Memphis being played as a striker or at least behind Rooney but I'm sure he'll be asked to chip in if we have injuries out wide. Lingard will more than likely be sold after going out on loan this season.

That would leave us with:
Strikers
Rooney
Memphis
Hernandez
Wilson
Wide Players
Young
Mata
Pedro*
Di Maria*
Januzaj

I think we need Januzaj to stick around if Memphis plays as a striker most games. Does that give us enough squad depth though? Would we be happy to see Januzaj, Young and Hernandez starting a Premiership game when we have a Champions league game coming up midweek? I don't think that forward 3 would be enough to beat the likes of Southampton or Newcastle, let alone the big boys.

Same info as everybody else: low clause, player wants to play more minutes and United/Chelsea interest.

We finally have some midfielders that can pass the ball a bit other than Carrick, signing someone like Pedro would give these midfielders a lot of options and his pace and running should surely open up some space in the middle for them and cause havoc for defenses trying to keep track of Pedro. This would be an exciting signing.

That's some appraisal alright. Sign him up..

Sounds very much like a van Gaal player to me.

He does indeed.

I also think he is disgracefully underrated. Many fans over here don't seem to realize how good he is.

Good player but not really sure if we need him given the options we already have and surely it would mean we won't bring any other forwards.

A lot of fans are muppets, they care too much about reputation and shiny new toys. That's why they underrate our players and the functional players.

After thinking about it more and watching youtube vids of him at work, I'm more and more hoping that the transfer happens... Technically he'd be class as he trained with Barca players his whole life, and while he might just look decent for them and be a squad player, that's exactly what Fabregas, Alexis Sanchez and Yaya Toure were for them, and they come to England and become the best players in the league basically. Not saying Pedro is quite as good, but Barca players are so intelligent and quick thinking on the ball that they'll look a class above in terms of the quick passing and movement when moving to different clubs. He's 27 and never really had injury problems, so there's no reason he can't get back to his best like he was a few years ago.

Also just think of the pace in behind we'd have (which we have lacked for a good 4-5 years now) with a front 4 of:
Rooney
Memphis Mata Pedro
