LvG is the one who said in all the recent interviews that he needed to add pace and creativity to the team and listed a bunch of players that all operate on the wing. Mata is the opposite of fast and so he was obviously the next to be shuffled as Memphis replaced Young.
but it still looks like LvG pulled the plug off in the transfer of Pedro. We moved from Clyne to Darmian pretty quick. We have either spotted someone who's better than Pedro or LvG trusts the youngsters, either is not such bad thing, is it?

People are crazy if they think it's about 2M or the structure of the payment or whatever. Maybe we were put off by Pedro not being too convinced about coming, maybe we have someone else lined up, maybe Van Gaal wants to trust the youth, but in any case it's not a financial thing.

I must say, I don't even rate him as high as some here do but at 22mil, it's a superb deal. He'd have done very well here. Suits the system perfectly and scores a lot of Goals.

I'm not buying the 'LVG didn't want him' line. It sounds like something went wrong in the negotiations or Jose convinced him.

LVG couldn't have been swayed by our attacking performances this season, that's for sure. We've been crap going forward.

I dont know if we could say anything about our team from the Brugge match. They had too many players injured and were definitely not at our level. We did well, but extrapolating the performance to the entire season will be stupid.

I really don't care that we lost out on him, but the club is taking a hammering from the media, and this will make signing other targets more difficult.

Adnan proved that he is ready to step up if given more time, and Rooney's performance proved that we need a striker more than a winger.

A sensible post that doesn't deserve to be lost in the midst of all these meltdowns.

I have no idea why Van Gaal was trying to convert Depay into a #10 but he clearly was, if giving up on Pedro is a sign that experiment is over then it's good news.

It's not really good news though seeing as Pedro would be an improvement on the right.

There's room for both Depay and Pedro in the squad as wide players.

Adnan has mostly played badly there and that is why he is bieng converted

Again don't agree on this. As I mentioned Adnan played in that specific position under Moyes and didn't play 'badly'. LvG currently sees Adnan as a 10 which is why he's being played there.

The argument that he played badly there and so is being played as a 10 doesn't make sense to me. Usually if you can't play 10 then you see players shunted to the wing, its not the other way around.

That's not what I said, I said that we were interested one month ago and a lot can happen in a month.

Oh, misread you then. We're perfectly in agreement in that case. I don't believe it's about the money, we were interested but for whatever reason, don't want him anymore.

Well that's just put us back to square one, who the feck are we after?
I'm not looking forward to the next couple of weeks

Unless Van Gaal is happy with what we've got, then there's no way we'd drop interest in Pedro if we didn't have someone else lined up.

I think Muller's on his way guys.

I do agree with u . Look like lvg trust the youngster..... Hope none of them having bad injuries later in the season. Or hope Pedro does not go to Chelsea and bite us in the arse later :(

We're most probably looking at someone, LvG keeps banging on about strengthening with the right players.

I'm sure we have something lined up.

No, I haven't been clear. ;)

I'm not really bothered by missing out on Pedro if LVG has someone else in his sights, since I'm not entirely convinced with Mata on the right - we need more of an out and out winger/forward.

I also refuse to believe that we were unwilling to pay a few extra million to meet the clause, that doesn't make sense and is a bunch of nonsense in my opinion. Either LVG changed his mind, or Pedro ultimately favored Chelsea over United - I'm thinking the latter.

No but Januzaj and Depay have both looked like real quality based on pre-season and our first three competitive games. That has to influence the manager's thinking when it comes to getting new players in.

Yep - it's perfectly possible that he's now happy with having Januzaj in the middle and thus keeping Mata out on the right, or maybe Pedro was originally intended to play on the left and Memphis as a #10, but as it's abundantly obvious that Memphis should be on the left, things have changed.

I don't for a second believe it's about us not paying up, especially when the player himself was apparently reluctant because he didn't feel like we really wanted him.
I think we're now happy with that scenario in the first para because the player wasn't that interested in us. He simply makes too much sense to pass up on. For him, maybe Chelsea made more sense.

there is just no chance, don't do it to yourself.

As I've maintained before, he's not as good as some of you lot make out.

Nah, no way we're getting Muller. Don't see any reason as to why Bayern would sell unless they get ridiculous money. I think we'll probably try and sign an extra striker before the end of the window.

I am sure the club are under no illusions that it would take a huge offer to stand a chance of getting him.

I don't think it looks like LvG pulled the plug, I think it looks like we got done by Chelsea because we took too long. If we got someone better than Pedro then sure, but that is highly unlikely.

He's been moved to the #10 role because he's skillful but too slow to play on the wing, he had a decent run there for Moyes and then got found out, he's not had a decent game wide for over a year, he has though managed decent backt o back performances centrally and did better there on tour than he did on the wing.

Just as I was warming to the idea... I just hope we haven't pulled the plug to go all out for an unrealistic target like Muller or Bale.

We need someone on that right wing. Mata is not a winger and who would play if he got injured? Pereira and Januzaj are not wingers, sure they can play there but better to have an actual, good winger there.
I hope we have someone else in mind, LVG said we need someone who can change games.

No but Januzaj and Depay have both looked like real quality based on pre-season and our first three competitive games. That has to influence the manager's thinking when it comes to getting new players in.
I think maybe it influenced him to move for one instead of two?

Maybe there is another target lined up? And maybe at one point we were going to sign both but the performance of januzaj and moving Memphis out wide convinced him he just needs one? Basically though we are all clutching at straws... And what the club need to do is release a statement on this to put the media right.

So, we shouldn't belive anything said by the media and only what the club tells us. Thank you, we aren't that stupid.

No, you miss my point again.

What I've said from the outset is that people should not believe everything they read in a media which specialises in headlines and articles designed and written to ensure they get more advertisement dollars by you, me and others clicking.

You have people in here branding the club a shambles because what has happened is not in line with the media angle they've been fed for the last few weeks.

I'm sure you're smart enough to decipher this all. But if not, don't believe everything anyone tells you, be it club or media, and wait until he's holding the jersey up before believing we're going to sign a player.

That way you'll avoid frantic, knee jerk disappointment because something Balague said would happen didn't come to fruition.

Are we getting Hazard and this is Chelsea getting the replacement in before they sell?

Yeah, me too. I have high hopes for Pereira and the way LvG emphasized him in post-game press conference after Braga game suggests to me he also has high hopes of youngsters. I'd be genuinely happy if any of young players were to make it here big time.

I am not too worried about Pedro going to Chelsea tbh. He's a system player, not a difference maker.
