Neither are any good on the right.

Incorrect. Adnan has played there very often. In fact the season before LvG arrived, when Moyes was in charge he regularly started on the right flank. Pereira can play across the front 3 as well.

28 years old, pacey, direct player who mostly plays in the same position as Depay.

Not saying it's not galling after the month of interest, but I kind of see the logic of investing that moolah elsewhere.

He's played on the right mainly in his career.

Not that scary.

If Pedro wasn't 100% committed then Utd were right to pull out. We don't want another DiMaria situation.

Committed to United? Pedro? Why would he be? Were we all getting ready to the stories about being a fan since school days? He's be a fecking mercenary if he signed, and that's exactly what he will be wherever he signs. He'll sign where he's most likely to play, win, get well-paid and enjoy his favoured lifestyle.

They're nearly as bad as all the bastards who changed their vote in the De Gea thread!

It's like the rigged election system in some authoritarian society where the votes are altered after they're submitted to make the government look better.

"According to a poll from two months ago, 0% of RedCafe users wanted Pedro. 85% said that they wanted the youth players to have a chance instead, and 25% said that they would rather sign a forward. I know that adds up to 110%, but it just proves how much the fans hated the idea of signing Pedro."

Would have been a nice signing, but it's not anywhere near as bad as people are making out. He's suited on the wing and having him would have maybe pushed Memphis inside where he is worse off.

What we need is not a winger, it's a player who can play no10/Striker and switch/link with Rooney. Rooney is struggling a bit early on and having someone who would push forward when he drops back would give us that man further forward. The Muller type signing would be perfect, not that we'd get him.

Pedro could have been a player who could maybe have done that but he's not the be all and end all. There are better players for the role than hum, whether any are available are a different matter. Trust in LVG, i'm confident he'll have something lined up.

Everyone knew he wasn't an elite attacker, but he's much better than Mata as a right forward which was why he was a smart buy at a cheap price. He's peak age, used to the system we play and has pace and goals in him.
Give a little credit to Mata. He may be slower than a turtle on DMT but he's genuinely creative and can play good final balls. Pedro probably would have replaced Januzaj in current set-up. If LvG genuinely wanted Mata dropped (for the lack of pace you mentioned), he could have done that with Young and Memphis on flanks with Adnan in middle. The fact he's not doing this probably means he rates Mata a lot.

Walcott could be available in the near future.

I don't see what he has to do with anything but he just signed a new contract with Arsenal.

Incorrect. Adnan has played there very often. In fact the season before LvG arrived, when Moyes was in charge he regularly started on the right flank. Pereira can play across the front 3 as well.

Adnan has mostly played badly there and that is why he is bieng converted, and Pereira has played nearly his whole time with us as either a #10 or a #8.

We obviously have Muller and / or Ronaldo and / or Griezman and or Reus and / or Draxler and / or Bale lined up instead so its no problem :wenger:

in fact we are probably only waiting till deadline day to announce them all to give other teams a chance for a few weeks because we are nice like that :wenger:

Im not worried that we are going to end up with nobody :nervous:...

I have a very bad feeling this one will bite us in the ass.

You must be so gullible if you think a performance against an open and shit team like Brugge changed LvG's mind and we're all fine and dandy now.

I think the problem is we are desperate for more attacking quality and so Pedro seemed like a much better option than perhaps he should of.

I was really keen for us to land him but more based on the need for pace! Now it's not going to happen and I'll be honest... I'm panicking now.

We're an absolute shambles of a club

It's not exactl hard to see why we're miles behind City/Chelsea/Arsenal. It's exactly where we deserve to be.

Christ on a bike!

Anyway, this is disappointing. He'd no doubt have improved us and added pace to the attack, but, it's not exactly devastating. He'd not have won us the league. I'm not saving face here in the slightest. I'd have loved us to sign Pedro, but I think we can manage without him. Our more pressing issues are a centre forward and a centre half. Signing Pedro wouldn't have changed this. I'm hoping LVG and Woodward address at least one of these positions in the next 10 days.

Januzaj hasn't even played well yet so I bloody hope it's not his performances that have convinced Van Gaal everything is rosey.

LvG is the one who said in all the recent interviews that he needed to add pace and creativity to the team and listed a bunch of players that all operate on the wing. Mata is the opposite of fast and so he was obviously the next to be shuffled as Memphis replaced Young.

I meant in terms of who he wants to sign for. DiMaria was linked to PSG when we signed him and ended up going there a year later. Perhaps that was always his preferred destination?

If Pedro wants Chelsea more than United then good luck to him.

They repeated the exact same thing for about a month, this only happens when they know nothing.

Naah, I don't believe we weren't interested from the off. Van Gaal himself talked about him in a presser too.

He said recently we need pace and creativity. Anyone believing the brief that we are now satisfied is very naive.

I'm not bothered.

It's not as big as missing out on Lucas or Hazard. When you miss out on players like that who have the potential to be world class then it is disappointing.

Pedro is 28 and he's not going to turn out to be world class.

Why would he push Memphis inside? He'd play on the right; and get goals which we are sorely lacking with Rooney's current form.

Yeah it is similar how we wanted every available mdfielder for years just because we needed one. I think we are better not buying Pedro if LVG really thinks he is not good enough.

And BTW he looks stupid with his mustache...

More Darmian and Bastian type players please - i.e players thrilled with the idea of playing for us, not players who join us because of reluctantly leaving their clubs and no one else is interested.

The Pedro situation screamed Di Maria for me, I suspect LVG felt the same and hence felt less inclined to pursue.

I don't think it has anything to do with money, but it's odd. My own theory is this, we are/were trying for a bigger signing, but reached agreement with Pedro which we thought we could do at anytime if option 1 doesn't work out, probably the club were willing to follow up on option 1 until the closing stages of the window. Pedro interprets this as lack of seriousness from our part, Chelsea make their move, he decideds they need him more and signs for them.

Januzaj hasn't even played well yet so I bloody hope it's not his performances that have convinced Van Gaal everything is rosey.

He had a decent game against Villa, all things considered. And I doubt he's the sole reason for LVG changing his mind on Pedro, if that's the case.

Naah, I don't believe we weren't interested from the off. Van Gaal himself talked about him in a presser too.

That's not what I said, I said that we were interested one month ago and a lot can happen in a month.

If that's the case, great. He's either signing someone better or thinks our youngster have what it takes for us to no longer need Pedro. Either scenario works for me. Especially the latter.
Yep - it's perfectly possible that he's now happy with having Januzaj in the middle and thus keeping Mata out on the right, or maybe Pedro was originally intended to play on the left and Memphis as a #10, but as it's abundantly obvious that Memphis should be on the left, things have changed.

I don't for a second believe it's about us not paying up, especially when the player himself was apparently reluctant because he didn't feel like we really wanted him.

He said recently we need pace and creativity. Anyone believing the brief that we are now satisfied is very naive.

Exactly, this whole notion that LvG has dropped the interest reeks of an obvious attempt to cover up the fact that we got done over by Chelsea due to dawdling and trying to play hardball over chump change.

Maybe we got some encouragement over this supposed bid for Muller? I refuse to believe we have simply decided we don't need another player, especially when based on 3 games we only have a couple of players who look like they are going to be getting the goals this season.

I would love to think that we have a bigger fish like Muller lined up but it's just so unlikely that we could get Bayern to sell its not worth thinking about. It just doesn't make any sense to be so interested in Pedro all this time only to let him go to our main rivals. It was unanimously thought of on here that he would be a big hit at United and now we're going to have to watch him do it for Chelsea, quite sickening really.

He is costing them about £22m or so....do we really think there's someone else out there who's won as much as Pedro and is available this summer? Maybe van Gaal is happy with our youngsters stepping up but in reality it looks like we were playing hardball over a small percentage of the transfer fee and Chelsea have now gazumped us. I guess there's not much left to do other than hold out hope that we have another top target lined up, just seems incredibly unlikely this late in the day. Oh wait, there's always Nico Gaitan.

I just refuse to believe that we are done in the transfer market.

LVG has said several times the squad is getting there but isn't there yet! He wants pace in attack so it baffles me that suddenly we've pulled out.

Surely if business was done he'd say that? He hates answering transfer questions so surely he'd use any excuse to stop them?
