He's a weak link there that Pedro would have improved, buying to improve has been LvG's shtick all summer.

I'll personally disagree. Mata's got plenty of flaws in his game, but he's also an excellent little player who'll get plenty of goals and assists. Don't see us playing him on the right as too much of a problem, providing LVG allows him to cut inside a lot and drift around.

So Ballague got this one wrong then?
not really. you can't deny we were interested in the player, it isn't ballbag's fault that we didn't push through with the deal.

He'd be a really good asset for Chelsea's right wing. United should not let this slip.

A better team would have beaten us, no cover for the fullbacks, dodgy goalkeeper and a flukey goal that wouldn't have happened if the ref had blown the whistle when he was originally going to. Play like that in the group stage and we will have problems. We are now relying on a kid to get the goal. None coming from midfield unlike last season, when they were our big threat.

Posts like this make it really hard not to attack the poster. You're talking absolute shite, our midfield controlled the game and had we taken all of our easy chances alone, it could have been 5-1. Brugge hardly troubled us and the few times they did were often of our own making, which is just sloppiness that can be rectified (without signings).

You would be spitting feathers if the ref had blown up in the middle of a cross into the box, the ref allowed play to continue at his discretion as is within the laws of the game; it's a minimum addition, not a maximum. If we play like we did against Brugge in the group stages we will top the group. Oh and there was plenty of coming from midfield, Schweinsteiger was ever present on the edge of the box and Carrick was high up to make the cross for Memphis' goal.

Key word. Don't believe everything you read in the twitterverse, in fact don't believe any of it :)
That's why I used the word reportedly. However with the sheer number of reports going around you'd have to think there was some truth in them.

You're just proving my point.

Woodward flew out? Did you see him fly out or read it in the media?

And he agreed terms? This written in the same media that is way off on all our other dealings?

And LVG has named lots of players to the press. Totally believable that he does this to stir them.

So, we shouldn't belive anything said by the media and only what the club tells us. Thank you, we aren't that stupid.

Imagine being embarrassed to support a club that has won three out of three.

do people not realise football is played on the pitch not the back pages? How can you be embarrassed to not sign a player?

Sad but surely no longer that surprising? Sounds old man-ish but the internet means people spend twice as much time reading transfer gossip than they do actually watching football.

28 years old, pacey, direct player who mostly plays in the same position as Depay.

Not saying it's not galling after the month of interest, but I kind of see the logic of investing that moolah elsewhere.

Ok, who changed their vote from "Yes, Pedro will be a great addition" to something else? :D

Bullshit, I say. Woody apparently agreed to pay the fee when he flew out. Of course it'd be LvG who cancelled it. When has Woody ever not paid up for a player LvG really wanted?

Woodward has spent the whole window playing hardass and every report said the same thing, we wanted to structure the Pedro deal and Barca wanted their €30M up front, we stalled and Chelsea slipped in.

Adnan and Pereira

Neither are any good on the right.

I don't believe LvG called it off, that is simply something we are telling the media because we've been mugged by Chelsea who simply stumped up the fee Barca wanted. There are no young players that play the same position in our ranks, Pedro was to replace Mata out there.
Fair enough if you don't believe that then. We can find out soon enough when LvG gives his pre game pressers anyway whether he pulled off or we just lost our mind. In all honesty, I think Pedro as a Willian kind of player, who can work for the team but cannot be a sparkling presence which we need. Having said that losing to Chelsea if we were genuinely interested (as you think) would be furiously saddening thing to happen.

whatever. we didn't go for clyne and people went crazy, I suspect we have another player lined up. I won't pass judgement on this until the window closes.

I think the reason which might have swayed LVG's decision is that depay will not play as a "10". He will now use him as a left winger, where he actually might think pedro would have played. Pedro if you have watched him plays best as a left wing forward cutting on his right and shooting and making passes like a true inside forward. He saw depay do that well enough against brugges/villa and now sees pedro as redundant. We might go after a striker after seeing rooney underperform. We might go after a right winger who is quicker than mata and play mata in middle. After all saying that i think its poor that we did not sign him. He could have been a good asset.

A sensible post that doesn't deserve to be lost in the midst of all these meltdowns.

I have no idea why Van Gaal was trying to convert Depay into a #10 but he clearly was, if giving up on Pedro is a sign that experiment is over then it's good news.

He'll come good for Chelsea, IMO. Hazard, Costa and Pedro is a tasty trio.

For some reason I'm not bothered. I don't know why, maybe I'm influenced by Memphis performance last night and happy that Januzaj will get to play consistently.

'We can do things in the transfer market other clubs can only dream of' - we weren't lying!

No value. :wenger:

At least we don't have to pretend that he is a great player anymore. Pedro you are trash.

This is all Ballague's fault.

Bale was booed again by the Madrid fans last night apparently

The only people trying to play down what a feck up this is are the Mata fanboys because now he'll slowly play every week.

We'll probably get slated on Soccer Saturday.

Quick, sign someone! Especially a reported Chelsea target!

At least won't have to put up with his diving.

To the Jefferson Montero thread.

Just got to love this place

He plays on either the left or right flank. And we've got a slow second striker playing on the right.

Everyone knew he wasn't an elite attacker, but he's much better than Mata as a right forward which was why he was a smart buy at a cheap price. He's peak age, used to the system we play and has pace and goals in him.

If Chelsea wants to hijack the deal, we should let them. He'll seat on the bench there b/c Mourinho will not play 2 attacking players on the wings.. see Schurrle, Salas and Cuadrado.

Walcott could be available in the near future.

I'm in shock. Not that Pedro isn't coming but that BBC managed to get the currency conversion rate right this time. It's all good that Pedro won't sign for us, but I don't like that he will probably freshen Chelsea up.

According to the BBC it's LvG who decided he doesn't want him anymore, so can people stop moaning about the club and how we won't fork out cash or whatever? It's embarrassing.
It's embarrassing that there are posters on here who seem to be in a continual state of "embarassment" about United.

Don't think he'll face such issues with Pedro. He works very hard.

If Pedro wasn't 100% committed then Utd were right to pull out. We don't want another DiMaria situation.

Muppets should be happy. This probably means United being linked with a zillion fresh names for the next 2 weeks.

It's strange that the media are all reporting different reasons for this, some saying we didn't want to pay the money, others saying Lvg changed his mind and then there is a third group saying Pedro picked Chelsea over us.

In truth, Pedro is not the type of player I think of when I think of a United winger but in my mind he was certainly the best available fit for the 4-3-3 system we played last season. So whilst I was excited about the potential of our team with Pedro in it I was not as excited about Pedro the individual if that makes sense.

I hope we have an alternative in mind to fill one of those front 4 positions as I do feel the balance is not quite right but confident that one astute signing could take us up another level.

Pedro will improve Chelsea and the direct threat of him and Hazard is as good as anything in the league.

If that's the case, great. He's either signing someone better or thinks our youngster have what it takes for us to no longer need Pedro. Either scenario works for me. Especially the latter.

Maybe we got some encouragement over this supposed bid for Muller? I refuse to believe we have simply decided we don't need another player, especially when based on 3 games we only have a couple of players who look like they are going to be getting the goals this season.
