Decent player but I am not that fussed we didn't get him and it seems reasonable to me that Van Gaal pulled the plug on the basis of what he thinks we need.

The overreaction to him supposedly joining Chelsea is just as hysterical as it was to the news that City were buying Otamendi.

if the fee was that low and we really wanted the player, we wouldn't of been messing around.
 
I think the reason which might have swayed LVG's decision is that depay will not play as a "10". He will now use him as a left winger, where he actually might think pedro would have played. Pedro if you have watched him plays best as a left wing forward cutting on his right and shooting and making passes like a true inside forward. He saw depay do that well enough against brugges/villa and now sees pedro as redundant. We might go after a striker after seeing rooney underperform. We might go after a right winger who is quicker than mata and play mata in middle. After all saying that i think its poor that we did not sign him. He could have been a good asset.

Its probably not a feck up. LvG decided Pedro would not improve the squad significantly and backed off the transfer. I am not a great fan of Mata but I am not too bothered about us missing out on Pedro. His experience may be a plus point but there are young players likely to get more minutes, which is always a positive.

I have absolutely no doubt that Van Gaal purposely delayed negotiations to see if Januzaj would be good enough for the first team in our early season games. Although Januzaj hasn't set the world alight he has definitely showed that there is a top top player in there that will develop this season if given game time...It's also very possible that Van Gaal might fancy his chances of bringing in an out and out top class striker to lead the line instead of Rooney and Pedro before the window closes

Mata's fine there. Lacks pace perhaps, but he's still an excellent player who can offer us something different.

do people not realise football is played on the pitch not the back pages? How can you be embarrassed to not sign a player?

I don't believe LvG called it off, that is simply something we are telling the media because we've been mugged by Chelsea who simply stumped up the fee Barca wanted. There are no young players that play the same position in our ranks, Pedro was to replace Mata out there.

Great point. Van Gaal likes his inverted wingers and I don't think he would as happily play him on the right.

And he agreed terms? This written in the same media that is way off on all our other dealings?

And LVG has named lots of players to the press. Totally believable that he does this to stir them.
 
Disappointing. I think if that's it for the spending? We're short and stupid. Pedro will be a good player for Chelsea. I think Pedro was worth it but it really only makes sense if we've a striker in mind.

He's a weak link there that Pedro would have improved, buying to improve has been LvG's shtick all summer.

Bullshit, I say. Woody apparently agreed to pay the fee when he flew out. Of course it'd be LvG who cancelled it. When has Woody ever not paid up for a player LvG really wanted?
 
Yeah I'm another in the I wouldn't have minded seeing him here but not bothered either way camp.

At least won't have to put up with his diving.

You have to laugh.

You also have to assume the club has averted its attention elsewhere, because there's no way we would have missed out for the sake of a few million.

My concern is that we have knocked Pedro on the head to chase someone like Muller or Bale, both of which are nigh on impossible deals to do at this stage.

I am abit gutted at the mo but if we are signing someone better than Im not bothered in the slightest.
