fecking shambolic to miss out on this. It's 22m pounds, and we're getting all stingy over how a couple of million will be played? I'm genuinely a bit pissed off at how the feck we managed to mess this up. Would have been an excellent signing for us I think. But now, because Woodward and Van Gaal all of a sudden decided to act tough and not pay over the odds when we did more then that last season without a problem, when we really haven't spent all that much this summer (around 15-20m net spend?). If this is all woodward fecking up, I'm sure we'll hear leaks of it soon with Van Gaal being pissed off, because there is just absolutely no way we should have missed out on him through haggling for the price when he had such a reasonable price in the first place.

We better fecking sign someone big now, but us going for muller and missing out on pedro just reeks of us going for Fabregas and missing out on Thiago under Moyes 2 years ago.
...or Pedro decided on Chelsea instead. They were the first club linked with him.

FSW will never sell Bale to us, he is the centrepiece of his team and no way in hell will Bayern sell one of their best players to us. Bastian was past his best as far as they were concerned.

I meant that if a player like that did become available (not that they will), we would have no qualms stumping up the money. It's what makes me think that it was LVG not being convinced about Pedro rather than Woodward dithering over a few million. It's all rather odd though.

If we have ended this because we are landing someone better then fine. But if we just dont buy anyone thats awful imo.

They're all saying it's LVG's decision. He obviously saw what we did vs Bruhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhggge and decided we're perfect.

Disappointing if we've lost out on him to Chelsea. Is he choosing them over us, or have we backed out?

Looks like we backed out. Apparently this is "hugely embarassing" for us according to some folk and means we have had a "disastrous transfer window" according to others.

We're simply showing face. We got beaten and are making excuses.

Have to say I agree with this... If we really wanted him then as soon as we knew Chelsea were interested we'd have matched their bid. So either he picked Chelsea or we decided he wasn't right. Either way we look like silly.

All reports saying we were his first option, and Chelsea dropped their interest in him a long time ago before coming back in recently. Both United and Pedro mentioned each other. This would have been done if we just put up the money (and this can't be said enough, that it is a great price for a player of his quality). Nobody to blame but ourselves (or specifically, Van Gaal and Woodward) at how we fecked this up.

Yeah, sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. People just love to overreact in both directions when it comes to signings to a point where Pedro has even gotten overrated.

I love Pedro but this mob is absolutely crazy.

I dunno, just feels a bit strange that we'd go to all that hassle to pursue them, and then conveniently drop out when Chelsea instead decide to go for him.

This is obviously a Abramovic signing because there's no way Mourinho will drop Willian and I'm not sure Pedro is suited to the number 10 role

The trouble with naming alternatives is I get the feeling that work towards any of the other deals hasn't even started yet whereas it seems we had made some head way with Pedro. It's now 19th August, less than 2 weeks until the deadline and we've got to start all over again. Deals to bring in players such as those mentioned are very difficult to get going, never mind conclude! I have a horrible feeling IF Pedro signs for Chelsea, the squad we have now will be the one we have on 1st January. Then the hard work starts, if we're still within touching distance of top spot.

Im not too fussed about this guy. He's obviously a talent but he's wasted many years at Barcelona IMO. If Muller or Reus were available i'd rather go for them. In the meantime I don't think we're really in bad shape upfront. Januzaj can do a job if just given the chance

The meltdown here is embarrassing. I'm not happy that we have failed to sign him but to blame everyone in the club because we did not make this signing and call this window a failure?

Go and have a walk.

Jose didn't want him. LVG did not want him.

Chelsea buying him because the gangster is forcing the deal.

Also people saying he wouldn't join because of treatment of Valdes. Bullshit.

He's joining a manager who poked his ex manager in the eyes and got his team to kick the shit out of him and his teammates in nearly every game.

We didnt value him at 30 million is all thats happened here.

We obviously wanted to make some of the fee performance based and Barcelona were not confident that those would be met in the future.

Chelsea dont have any responsibility for the money they spend, so add on and performance related clauses are not so important as the cash is free.
He was a bargain, yet we wasted loads on ADM and wages for Falcao. Ridiculous from us. They better have a certain signing in min.

bah...this is really weird. Either the media which kept on reporting stuff in confident manner on this topic knew feck all or we were initially interested but for whatever reason decided to pull out later or player's personal choice was Chelsea. Either way I am not too disappointed because as few people have said in this thread, it is difficult to imagine we will let go a player we really wanted through haggling over couple of million. That said, in theory he did look like a welcome addition to squad. I hope we are not finished in transfer market, especially from attacking player perspective and get someone good.

We could still match whatever Chelsea are paying if we want him that much and he wants to come. But Woody flew back not doing that.

He doesn't need to drop Willian as such. Chelsea need to add some more depth to their squad, and Pedro will be a useful addition if they get him. He probably won't be a guaranteed starter all the time, but he'll still get plenty of playing time.

fecking pathetic from United, farting about over a few million, now unless we pull something out of the bag our slow arse right side will be a hindrance all season.

This was never about money. If we wanted him and he wanted to come here, we would have stumped up the cash without a second thought.

So either the player doesn't want to join us or the manager decided he didn't want him. In either case I'm fine with that outcome. I trust the manager's judgement and I don't want players in the team who don't want to be here (see Di Maria).

No way did Woodward, or whoever was negotiating, mess this up. It looks like as straight forward a transfer as you'll find.

Get over it people :)
Excellent post - I completely agree with this. He could have been waiting and waiting to see what other clubs came in for him, and once Chelsea showed firm interest then he got what he wanted. We dont need yet another player here who isn't quite sure whether he wants to play for us and I don't want us to be a player's second choice. As many other posters have said here; Pedro is a good player but he's not the match winner that we need in the shape of Aguero, Hazard, Ronaldo, Messi etc. We need a player like Bale who is a proven match winner.

I don't get it. People complain about Januzaj not getting enough games and then the same folks get into meltdown when we don't sign a player who'd have hindered his development. May be we either have a better alternate option lined-up or LvG believes Pedro can not improve the squad as much as development of some of the youth players could possibly do. Either way, I think manager has every right to make the decision. No way, we'd have been outbid by Chelsea if both Pedro and us were genuinely interested.

We're all speculating here and nobody knows but I don't believe it's about money.

Januzaj is not exactly a winger, that's the thing.

I agree that it's not too devastating to miss out on him, but I don't really feel like he's wasted his years at Barcelona. He's been a regular fixture for their side for about 5 or 6 years now, has won 2 CL's and a load of other trophies, as well as getting a goal in a CL final.
