Did you watch the game last night? we have plenty of pace.

Not with Mata in the team. We had Shaw on the right for a brief moment and suddenly there was a counter attack. You can't counter attack properly with Mata there. We need pace on the right. Mata is too slow to play there.

Said this yesterday as well but the media in their quest for headlines always make it seem like this club suddenly swooped in to get the deal done and stuff, Chelsea were the first club linked with Pedro and obviously his agent must have been in contact with lots of clubs. Barca didn't want to sell till the cup games and so it gave all the clubs time to decide if they want him and also gave Pedro the time to decide where he wanted to go. No one knows what the exact reason in the end was but I guess meltdowns happen best when you assume that we bottled it
yeah, for all we know the player and his agent have always wanted Chelsea, but Chelsea kept things quiet as they knew Barca would not sell until after the cup games while we were far too transparent.

Anyway, no point crying over a player who never really wanted to play for you...

What the hell just happened.

Oh well. Let's hope we get someone better. Decent signing for Chelsea but don't see what he will offer different which is probably what rivals were thinking about him signing for us.

Maybe we lost the interest, pulled out of the race for some reason. We dont know if its that or Pedro pulling off. But I guess it's easier to say we're not a top destiantion anymore or whatever.
We are all dealing in "maybe". So I guess it would depend on how an individual would want to look at it. One could believe we are too good to compete with Chelsea and City and are still the most preferred team of all players in the world or we could not.

Marca writes that Chelsea pays 28m+2 variables .According to As (http://futbol.as.com/futbol/2015/08/19/primera/1439979448_711782.html) United-Barça did´t agree the payment way, since United wanted to pay in installments. They write that Pedro got tired of waiting , and that the attitude of Van Gaal , mainly with Valdés, his friend, could have influenced his decision. I didn´t know that Chelsea was interested, maybe United has another player in mind.

Maybe LVG planned to play Pedro on the left & Depay in the centre but last night's performance put paid to that.
Fecking stupid regardless though as Pedro could just play on the right.

Absolutely fuming!

Meh...was never keen on Pedro. He is a good player but not the special player that we need to play out wide.

The funny thing was seeing his reputation grow ten folds since he was linked with us. Wonder if that would reverse and he would be rightly called a "Barca bench warmer" again. ;)

What do you think, professor @Kevin?

Can see Pedro going on to do a Sanchez. Really doesn't make sense that we have all of a sudden 'dropped interest', more like Chelsea have jumped in last minute and he has chosen to go to them instead.

If VG started using depay where he should, which means playing him from the left, start using herrera and mata at the same time. In all, use the strengths of our midfield in morgan bastian herrera mata and depay, or throw fellaini into the mix, that midfield could easily create and score goals. VG is just not using the right players, last night we saw what depay is capable of from a wide position, and he does make things happen.

In herrera, mata, fellaini and depay they can easily hit double figures, of 12 goals a piece

Still no idea why we did not go in for pedro, since he would give us more. But perhaps VG sees the likes of janazaj to step up, and with the improving depay, maybe VG thinks we have players in that position already

feck me, who saw that coming because I didn't. And over three million flipping pounds. Overpaid for Fellaini, overpaid and under sold for ADM never and others and we can't sign Pedro. Wow!

They were the first team he was linked to this summer.

Really strange how this has played out. With a buy out clause of £22m I thought it would be pretty straight forward. With all the haggling, I think that we just didn't want him enough which is disappointing because he is a good player, or maybe he just didn't want us. He'll be good for Chelsea at the end of the day but I think in the long term, Lingard and Pereira should get more game time as a result which will be better for us.

 why the hell did we not just give the 30m?

This is what makes me think we were in 2 minds about signing him. We have the money. If Bale or Muller were available we'd go to 100m Euro and push the boat out to get them. It's a very strange situation.

Worth noting both Luckhurst and Ladyman pointing out that someone (Mourinho) doesn't want him. This could end in tears.

Meh. Wasn't particularly arsed about his, anyway. Never liked the guy much.

You don't know what happened, apparently he is the one who stopped everything, he has his reason.
He will have a reason, but it won't stop him moaning when Ashley Young can't but a cross in. That him and Mata aren't Robben. Now we are praying that Wayne actually decides to put the ball in the net.

Whatever the case it's a blow for us. If LVG decided not to sign him then that's still a loss because he's a quality player.

I hope there's someone else on our radar but I really don't think there is.

The way people react.. Like his signing was a total given, like Pedro didn't have other options. We have a high number of drama queens on the caf.
Either way, there aren't many players available of his quality, if any. After spending 200 million plus our front three apart from possibly Memphis looks seriously underwhelming. Maybe we should have kept Di Maria after all

Which striker though, another trying to get back to fitness crock?

That's the problem isn't it? We're left with scraps having delayed for much of the Summer.

We can rule out any more Barcelona exits and while De Gea situation is rumbling on we can rule out any business with Real. Gotze doesn't fit the role, Tottenham won't sell us Kane it only leaves us with Griezmann as a young CF option.

Not really surprised by the sudden change, we tried to play Depay as a #10 & it didn't work. We put him back to his natural position on the wing, he's started to perform and we've suddenly pulled out of the Pedro deal.

It would seem like the priority is to sign a new striker or #10 rather than an additional winger if you ask me.

If Pedro did infact choose Chelsea over Us(which is one of the many possibilities why this is not happening), then not much we could have done. So, get over it.

So we agreed terms with him ages ago but had been haggling over the payment method and now Chelsea have swooped in. Can only be a massive cock up by Woodward.
He should accept that we're not getting Muller.

Or it was all media bollocks, we never had an agreement or we did have one and then he decided the Champions of England were the better option.

Who knows? Who cares? He's going to be a Chelsea player

Will reserve judgement on this until the end of the window.

If we manage to get a better player in, this will all be forgotten... if we get no one else in, well then it's been a shambles.

There is no way we screwed this one up because of 5 million quid. I believe it is manager's decision. We have Young, Memphis, Januzaj and Mata (Lingard may also be showing some promises at training sessions) for flanks, Wayne and Chicha for leading the line, and Mata, Wayne, Herrera and Fellaini to play as a no 10. Not sure whether Pedro would be a huge improvement on what we have.
So basically the same forward line bar Memphis that finished 4th and scored a considerably low amount of goals. How can people be happy with that?

fecking shambolic to miss out on this. It's 22m pounds, and we're getting all stingy over how a couple of million will be played? I'm genuinely a bit pissed off at how the feck we managed to mess this up. Would have been an excellent signing for us I think. But now, because Woodward and Van Gaal all of a sudden decided to act tough and not pay over the odds when we did more then that last season without a problem, when we really haven't spent all that much this summer (around 15-20m net spend?). If this is all woodward fecking up, I'm sure we'll hear leaks of it soon with Van Gaal being pissed off, because there is just absolutely no way we should have missed out on him through haggling for the price when he had such a reasonable price in the first place.

We better fecking sign someone big now, but us going for muller and missing out on pedro just reeks of us going for Fabregas and missing out on Thiago under Moyes 2 years ago.

Hopefully we sign someone better. If not, then yes it is a big blow.

Agent Fabregas, maybe?

Think you guys are overreacting here. Pedro isn't going to "do a Sanchez." Think he'll be a nice player but not a superstar or best in the league candidate.

Waking up to the news that Chelsea have hijacked the deal is beyond infuriating. Now it could still be a load of bollocks but I think we have all got that feeling that unfortunately it isn't and they've got one over on us again. What's so frustrating about this is Pedro would have been a very important signing for us and now looks like he will be getting plenty of assists and goals in blue instead of red. Unbelievable.

This transfer window will be pretty much ruined for me if this happens, we've done well but if we fail to bring in someone else who can contribute goals we will be in trouble. Van Gaal simply has to be interested in him, he even said for the journos to write it only last week, to apparently be so close to the deal only for Chelsea to come in as last minute as possible and just take him from us like that feels like a kick in the nuts. Unfortunately it kind of serves us right for not paying the god damn release clause in the first place, it wasn't even an unreasonable amount for a player of his talents.

We didnt value him at 30 million is all thats happened here.

We obviously wanted to make some of the fee performance based and Barcelona were not confident that those would be met in the future.

Chelsea dont have any responsibility for the money they spend, so add on and performance related clauses are not so important as the cash is free.
