This was never about money. If we wanted him and he wanted to come here, we would have stumped up the cash without a second thought.

So either the player doesn't want to join us or the manager decided he didn't want him. In either case I'm fine with that outcome. I trust the manager's judgement and I don't want players in the team who don't want to be here (see Di Maria).

No way did Woodward, or whoever was negotiating, mess this up. It looks like as straight forward a transfer as you'll find.

Get over it people :)

Silence, we have a right to overreact and act like a bunch of moaning children! A right, I say!

Maybe, and I say maybe LVG was tired to see Barcelona toy with us, just because they wanted to keep him for the Super Cups.

Who needs Pedro?

BARNET & POTTERS BAR TIMES: United interested in Barnet youngster Matt Stevens

Come on Ed - waiting for the headline "Woodward flies into Potters Bar" - just don't take the train :)

Maybe Pedro asked LvG to publicly apologize to Victor Valdez as a stipulation?

:p

Maureen likes to come in and nick players, doesn't he. Did it with Arjen Robben, did it with Willian & now Pedro. Wonder if United got somewhere with Munchen/Mueller thus the late pull out in the Pedro deal.

One can hope!

Whatever way you look at it, whether it was our decision, his decision, whether we stalled or not, whatever... it's a big blow, as he would instantly have become the best right-winger at the club.

Either way, there aren't many players available of his quality, if any. After spending 200 million plus our front three apart from possibly Memphis looks seriously underwhelming. Maybe we should have kept Di Maria after all

Yeah, sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. People just love to overreact in both directions when it comes to signings to a point where Pedro has even gotten overrated.

Muller
Bale
Reus

All better options and at least 2 would be gettable if we threw enough money at it

Not really surprised by the sudden change, we tried to play Depay as a #10 & it didn't work. We put him back to his natural position on the wing, he's started to perform and we've suddenly pulled out of the Pedro deal.

It would seem like the priority is to sign a new striker or #10 rather than an additional winger if you ask me.

Perhaps, though more likely he chose Chelsea instead of us. We need alot more than we have if we are to compete so...time to sort this out.

Meh...was never keen on Pedro. He is a good player but not the special player that we need to play out wide.

The funny thing was seeing his reputation grow ten folds since he was linked with us. Wonder if that would reverse and he would be rightly called a "Barca bench warmer" again. ;)

What do you think, professor @Kevin?

Never was really that bothered with Pedro. I've said it before in this thread: somewhere between good and world class but not quite. In hindsight, these have become prophetic words of foresight.

Nothing to cry about if we don't get him and decide to have a go with what we have (esp. If that meant chances for pereirra, januzaj).

How would we have forced through a sale if there was no legally binding release clause? If Barca wanted the player to stay until the cup games were done then there's nothing we could have done about it.

Not sure I get you.

If Barca wanted him to play the cup games, which I still don't fully believe was true, and we really wanted him we would have met this supposed gentleman's clause and said we'll finalise the deal once those two games have passed and he's not injured.

So yes we could have wrapped the deal up. There's nothing to suggest the club have screwed up as everyone seems happy to say.

It just doesn't look like we wanted him.

And don't forget clubs have used Utd for contracts. What's not to say we used this while doing some other business in the background??

That's the problem isn't it? We're left with scraps having delayed for much of the Summer.

We can rule out any more Barcelona exits and while De Gea situation is rumbling on we can rule out any business with Real. Gotze doesn't fit the role, Tottenham won't sell us Kane it only leaves us with Griezmann as a young CF option.
Where did that come from? He signed a new contract 2 days ago, plus I've never heard about an interest in him.

So in 2 days we have lost out on two players we were reportedly interested in, both to our rivals!

Maybe, and I say maybe LVG was tired to see Barcelona toy with us, just because they wanted to keep him for the Super Cups.

LVG is trying to turn every transfer into a pissing contest - won't take what we can for DDG and won't flash another 2 or 3 million for Pedro :(

Who was after Willian?

For gods sake. How is he not right for us?. Put Mata central in place of Januzaj, Pedro right, memphis left and sort out upfront?. I dont see the issue.

Great Chelsea just got even stronger. And it will be a big boost for them given their shocking start to the league. Deary me.

This is what makes me think we were in 2 minds about signing him. We have the money. If Bale or Muller were available we'd go to 100m Euro and push the boat out to get them. It's a very strange situation.

Worth noting both Luckhurst and Ladyman pointing out that someone (Mourinho) doesn't want him. This could end in tears.
FSW will never sell Bale to us, he is the centrepiece of his team and no way in hell will Bayern sell one of their best players to us. Bastian was past his best as far as they were concerned.

Pedro specifically mentions us in an interview, Van Gaal says he is what we're missing and the press can write it. And we screw it up. All over a nothing amount because now we're obsessed with not being push overs. IDIOTS.

What a load of f'n shit!! If we're stuck with Ashley Young again this season...

I'm having a meltdown right now.

If you genuinely think we're not getting Pedro because of haggling over a few million, then I think I'm going to have a meltdown! We've either got someone else lined up or he would rather play for Chelsea. It definitely, definitely, definitely isn't over a few million.

LVG is the manager and we have to trust his player judgement, if he has decided that he does not want him them so be it.
This is nothing to do with money , we could afford the so call buy out with easy, LVG did not want to and we have to accept that.

Yesterday we'd agreed personal terms, today he's off to Chelsea? Something doesn't add up here and it can't be because we were slightly improved against Brugge yesterday.

At the end of the day the management has to make it work out rather than hope. Regarding Pedro as one individual case I agree. But overall if we go into the season with just Memphis as the single addition to our attack then it will indeed be a failure on the club's part, and most likely will prove decisive during the season itself.

Beginning to look like mugs here. If we were never interested ok but clearly Woodward briefed the press at one point and then LVG talking about him that he needs to decide if he wants to come. Should have kept our mouths shut.

Take some consolation in the fact that his signing made sense to me due to how well he would fit in a Van Gaal team. He will do well at Chelsea but he would've looked better in our term.

Worried if Mata gets injured as well as really we don't have an orthodox right winger/forward who is up to the level. Pedro's pace would have been a nightmare for the teams that will put all there efforts into blocking off Memphis.

Disappointing if we've lost out on him to Chelsea. Is he choosing them over us, or have we backed out?
