Because he is twice as good. I wonder if Barca could have got £45m out of Pedro.

How many WC seasons has Pedro had?

Pedro had 3 very solid seasons from 09 till 11. He was pretty good in 13/14 as well. How many seasons like that di Maria had in a row?

Depay mata pedro

That would be quality
I was wondering that. Do you think he could play as a false nine? A la Messi, but he's far from him.

Depay and Pedro behind him, with Schmidfield and Herrera, would we score enough?

OR would we play two man mid and Rooney up top, at the expense of Herrera?

In only two games so far this season, LvG has tried Depay, Januzaj and Herrera in the #10 position. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that he wants Pedro to play in the hole as well. And before people say that's not his 'natural' position, that hasn't exactly stopped the manager before.

It didn't work out for Di Maria here. It didn't work out for Ibra at barca. What's your point? Di Maria is still a far better player than Pedro.

I don't think that's a settled issue at all. It's probably pretty marginal difference either way.

Pedro isgoing to be a fantastic signing.
Very hard working, skillful, versitile, can score goals, and fits very well into the philosophy.
At 22M? With the what's being paid for Sterling, Benteke, ect.. A very good price in my opinion!

Far to difficult to second guess what LvG would/will do if/when we get him.

They are both better at other things, but arguably pedro has better movement and is certainly the better finisher, more 2 footed aswell. Di Maria is the more creative but then he didn't show that for us either, so I think pedro could work out to be the better option eventually.

So I guess this means we might offload Toni V at some point.

We have four wingers: Januzaj, Young, Memphis and Valencia. A fifth one seems overkill, but Adnan is surely too good to get shot of just yet, Young just signed a new deal, and Memphis just got here.

I guess Pedro and Memphis will be our first choice wide men with Young and Januzaj as backups.

I don't see the acquisition of Pedro as anything else but strengthening a position we already have options for.

He's by no means a striker, and we already have a bunch of players who can play in the hole.

Buy a striker Van Troll.

Valencia is seen as RB cover by LvG.

Since Di María joined Real Madrid, their numbers in terms of minutes played and end contribution (assists + goals) have nothing between them. Di María creates more, Pedro scores more, which is expected looking at their deployment and best attributes. Pedro has been having a terrific career, and probably with a higher level of "competition" at his team than Di María. It's a bit simplistic putting things down like this, but in such a large sample I think it's a stretch to consider that one is significantly better than the other. It boils down to details, which kind of player you need more, etc...

If we sign him surely, we'd play him wide, obviously he can play false 9 too.

But with him wide and Depay wide, Mata may get his chance in the middle. Spanish link up with Depay hopefully showing his form would be great. Januzaj off the bench, Fellaini providing different approach. Herrera too if LVG keeps not playing him as a CM. Be a strong variation in attacking qualities.

We're going to get Pedro, but immensely frustrating that we've pissed around so much on this deal.
well, God forbid it was the beloved Barcelona that were pissing around, trying to hold on to the player as long as they could...

Fair.

Frustrating delay nonetheless, especially considering how uninspiring our front play has been.

We could have wrapped the deal up far earlier before Neymar got injured.

Well lots of reports said Barcelona wanted to keep him for those games too.

Aye, especially since Neymar was ruled out for two weeks. Maybe if we'd have moved quicker, we could have sealed it by now. Barca's position seemed to harden when Neymar was ruled out.

Yes but before that I think Neymar wasn't fit cause of Copa America and all, Messi too so that's why they wanted to keep him even then. I think it will be sorted this week. Maybe even today. :)

There's some reports saying City have met the asking proce while we're still well short, plus Pedro is running out of patience. IF this is true, we appear to have been playing a blinder in recent weeks, given the Ramos, DDG, Otamendi and now Pedro situations....just leaves the earlier optimism looking like we'll be in a strange situation of dissarray as the transfer window draws to a close. Hope we pull our socks up soon.

I don't take a lot of notice of that sort of report, clearly they don't know about the inner workings of the deal or what Woodward is thinking.

Well if they have met the asking price. Why is he not at City? Bullshit basically.

There was never any point not just paying the release clause. We've tried to be too clever for our own good.

all this pissing around and longing it out, only to just pay the buyout clause today?. Deary me. Why didnt we pay it weeks ago and just get him in.

Why do people panic every single time? go back to all the signings we made this summer, there was always that "it's off moment" right before we announce them. He'll be ours in the next 48 hours.

I think it's just part of the whole transfer process for people on here. You have to panic, it has to be off before its on.

Same shizzle, different impending transfer.

We really should have sorted this out about a month ago, unless we really had no choice because they forced him to stay until after the supercup. If we get this done in the next few days I can see him making his debut in the game against Swansea, probably as a sub. First start against Liverpool maybe? He's always been a big game player so maybe.

No idea why we've fecked around instead of just paying the clause anyway. I think our net spend for this summer is around 15-20m, and our wages are almost definitely down from last season. So we really shouldn't need to haggle what is a very good price anyway just to pay it in installments. If it's true that is, because it seems to stupid to be true.

I highly doubt we'd feck this up because we don't want to pay 5m...
It's not even that. We just want to pay the 5m in installments instead of up front. Which just sounds completely stupid that there would be this many problems over it, as it's a good price as it is, and we could probably spend another 100m this summer and be perfectly fine financially.

People believe what they want to believe. If its the reports about us haggling, that must be it. If the reports are Barcelona is stalling, that's not true, we must be haggling over few million quid.

I don't think you'll find anyone who disagrees this should have been done a little while ago, but maybe we had other players on our radar.

I expect before the end of tomorrow this will be all sorted.

Feels like 3-4 years ago when the Glazer whip was well and truly in force. You would think we would of learned from haggling over a few daft million here and there.

exactly, but no...Woodward is being an idiot bla bla bla...This place is very annoyingly negative at times.

By "some reports", you actually mean "random people on Twitter", don't you?
