Maybe the hold up on this is because we are trying to bring in a bigger name, it has been reported that LVG hasn't given up on Muller. I would bring Pedro in regardless. I will be annoyed if we lose out on Pedro because were messing around instead of just getting it done.

on a separate note, can anyone explain to me WTF is the point of having an "embargoed" segment of a bloody press conference?

They promote accuracy and good will between parties.

Releasing the info late ensures that the quotes are reliable, investigated and there is no great urge for the other papers to compete with each other.

Plus, it saves some news for the morning dailies. Television can't have it all.

wow. i didn't expect there to be answer for that.

cheers

I would guess that lvg thinks we need creative movement more than passing, and that Pedro can add that. We have the potential passers (Mata, Schwein, Herrera etc), we just need the ones that should recieve the passes

"It is a process. I want a player who is creative and fast, Pedro is this." LvG.
And here was me not clicking on this thread assuming it was more endless inane conversation. This is as good as seeing him holding the shirt if this quote comes out officially.

All these comments about Pedro (if true) feel very similar to the comments made about Di Maria by LVG. I just hope that LVG and Pedro (if he comes) get along and have a good relationship. I am getting a bit scared of LVG's man management skills. He does what's best for United but the players nowadays are prima donnas and get offended at the slightest criticism.

But LVG doesn't care and says it as it is. Which is good in a way but might end up hurting united if high profile players leave.

yeah well the directors will put pay to that if it becomes more frequent. We cant have him ruining all the signings we make for losses.

While Madrid have been eyeing up De Gea without coming up with a suitable fee, United hope their pursuit of Pedro will be a much quicker affair and are waiting for the Barcelona player to let them know if he is willing to leave the Champions League and La Liga winners. “You have to ask Pedro, not me,” Van Gaal said. “My answer is that it’s a process between a club and a player, and we are there also. I don’t mention anything before he has signed. When he has signed I will come to you and say: ‘Hey, Pedro is here.’ That is not the case and we shall wait to see.”

Van Gaal was reminded he had spoken previously about bringing in more fast, penetrative players now Ángel Di María had left for Paris Saint-Germain. “I hear, and Pedro is a player like that,” he said. “So write it.”

He obviously means to start printing Pedro's name on the back of United shirts.

Depay rooney pedro. Very MEH-ish compared to the rest of the top 4 in the PL, never mind the big two in Spain.

A talented but unproven kid, a declining star who is feeling the age faster than anyone else thanks to 12 years of top football with a sluggish porky body structure and a player who is somewhere between good and world class but not quite. Meh is so apt.

Well it's pretty difficult to compare them to the rest of the top 4 considering they've never played together.

What did you expect though? Memphis was always a sure thing to come here, and we were never gonna replace Rooney with a better striker. After selling Di Maria, Pedro seems an adequate replacement.

Bale, Müller etc.. are all pipe dreams, at least for this season.

Pedro is pretty much a Willian equivalent, Memphis could well rival hazards contribution especially in the goal department, but perhaps not creatively. Rooney will score us goals this year but maybe not as many as Costa, but then he will remain fitter through more games. I fancy our 2 cm will score more than fabregas/matic will too.

Overall I don't think we will be massively behind if we get the players into form.

Of the three Rooney worries me the most, I'm just not sure he has 20-25 goals in him anymore, take your point on the other two but it's as good as we're going to get, and potentially a massive upgrade on last season.

And yet you are delighted with every player who'll cost a lot of money not signing for us. Do you expect us to get players like Bale, Benzema or Reus for peanuts? How do we improve our front 3, if we aren't willing to pay over the odds? If we don't, there's hardly any way to improve on what we have.

Should we really be talking about a player who isn't ours so openly when it seems like it's still up in the air?

Will be glad to see this put to bed.

Personally I think a potential Memphis Rooney Pedro front 3 is very threatening.

If you think about us playing the dominant football we showed flashes of last season vs Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea (even though we lost) with that front 3 and our new midfield, it has potential to be very good. Let's just wait and see before writing it off.

From LVG's swagger in the conference today, I'd say it's a lot closer than what the media are making out. Remember how quickly the Schneiderlin deal materialized. It was "Ooooh, United aren't meeting Southampton's demands....could be called off. They're only offein.....OH UNITED AND SOUTHAMPTON HAVE REACHED AN AGREEMENT!".

dont waste your time trying to work Kevin out, you should all know better

I think if they click Memphis, mata, Pedro behind Rooney could be the best forward line in the league

If they click

Its not great. But its certainly better then Young Memphis Rooney.

I thought we'd have this one wrapped up by now tbh.

If they click

....and if they play in the right positions :) let's face it, it's not going to be:

------------Rooney------------
Memphis----Mata-----Pedro

It'll most likely be:

------------Rooney-----------
Young---Memphis---Pedro

.......which looks much less threatening.
