Payet Winter Signing

I do not want him. He is not needed (we are well stocked in his position). No resale value. Too expensive (not that we cannot afford him).

Would be the most illogical transfer ever.

Occasionally wasteful I will give you, but I'm unsure about the concept of a player who simply will not stop 'selfishly' creating chances for his teammates.
selfish might be the wrong word. He is the kind of player, that wants to have the ball to try stuff on his own. Thats great for a club like West Ham, because he is their best player. If he plays for a bigger club, he needs to share the ball a lot more and his performance will suffer. Pogba is already ball-hogging at times.
Payet would improve us - especially because we lack options out wide - but he is not the player we need and he would be crazy expansive.

It is one of those transfers that might helps us in the short run, but would not be beneficial if we look at the bigger picture.

It would be a great short term solution.

As far as attacking options in January go, you won't get much better, so I'd rather Payet than nothing.

He would be worth for this set piece deliveries and corners alone. We have no one who can send in a decent curler. I'm sure he'll rake his assists

He has 5 assists in 11 games this season. last year he created 4 chances per game, this year he creating 3.9 chances per game. So he is still quite good despite the season West Ham have so far.

That's as good a proof as your going to get in terms of useful stats. The fact that he has the same/similar stats shows he is playing consistently. It's just his team mates. Not converting and leaking goals.

We create enough chances, he is not what we need. We've Mkhi, Martial, Mata and Pogba who can all create plenty themselves.

He's been fairly great, started a little lukewarm but he's been class recently.
I'm not sure where the narrative came from that he's struggling in his second season here.

Saying that, I don't think your lot should go for him.

I think someone said it on the radio once...

All joking aside the only thing that peaks my interest is the fact that we have in the last 3 seasons had little to no threat or chance creation from the left.

Seems like a good fix for this no?

If we want somebody just for set pieces lets buy Charlie Adam.

God I hope we don't sign Payet.

Too old. We need younger fresher legs. This guy is almost 30.

Do you watch every match he plays? I have only seen him briefly on a highlights show so I can't say. Has he been that mediocre? I find it difficult to believe he has the highest chance creation in all top 5 world leagues (Unless it's a completely deceiving stat).

Based on what? If he is mediocre, all our current wingers would be below mediocre.

Well, he's hardly pulling up trees this season is he? Look where West Ham are in the league. At lot of their success last season was down to him, now that he is performing below par, look where they are.

Good grief, some people just argue for the sake of it!

he's the type of player that comes in right away and plays. Jose tends to favour those types

No thanks. Martial on form is a better player then him and we already have mkhitaryan/mata as creative players in that attacking mid position. Plus rooney who has been decent. And then lingard and rashford who can be good off the bench or to rotate. Its really not needed.

If it was like a 20m deal, and for him to be a squad pllayer, then sure. Other then that, feel like hes really overrated and nowhere near worth what itll take.

Payet is deadly, showed that many times and our free kick/corner taking could use some upgrade plus that deal hypothetically speaking wouldn't even remotely collide with what could Griezmann add to the overall firepower which also needs overhauling.

Depends on the price I guess-not so expensive it stops us getting our other targets. But I would take him just because our corners and free kicks have been maddeningly pointless wastes of time for years now. But would he oust Martial? Unsettle him to join a top European rival?

Don't think he works hard enough for Jose.

I haven't watched that many games he has played, maybe 15, but I have the same impression. He can look like a genius when he has the ball, not so much when he doesn't. He did play under Bielsa though, which Ive always found a bit puzzling. Maybe he has it in him to run more, or my impression of his game is wrong.

I'd take Payet here easily. He's an inconsistent player, but that has a lot to do with the fact that he has to be the main man for West Ham all the time. Surround him with Zlatan, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Mata and Martial and he'll move up a level. I also think his delivery is among the best in the league. Would record a lot of assists with Zlatan to aim at.

I'd say it's by far the best in the world, not just in the PL. Almost Beckham like.

I'd be happy we paid good money for him if we were offloading the likes of Fellaini and Young for decent money but can't see that happening.

I saw someone said that even when he was in France, he was great. Granted he looked class last season but why only at the age of 28-29 he moved and it only to West Ham?

Great player, especially when it comes to crosses and set plays. It would take ridiculous money since he signed a 4 1/2 year contract less than a year ago. Not to mention he will be 30 in March. Does he play a position that is a priority for us? I am not really sure.

IMO, a move for Payet makes sense for Jose for he's experienced and Jose works well mostly with experienced players. But he plays where Martial plays, so a move for Payet would make Martial thinking about leaving United. Hope Jose won't sign Payet.

I had this weird feeling the other day when we played West Ham (the first game) and Ibrahimovic fouled Payet accidentally. He put the ball out immediately when he noticed Payet was down as they had clashed knees. I don't know why but the way he went back over to him and checked on/talked to him gave me this strong feeling that we are targeting Payet in January and Zlatan is aware of that, or that he is essentially already coming and Zlatan knows, either because he's friends with Payet or through Mourinho. I know it sounds completely ridiculous, I have never had that thought about any transfers for anyone or even care about Payet being a target or not (hadn't even considered it this season and even then he surely can't fit in with so many players in his position already), but it immediately convinced me that we are signing him in the January window because of how he reacted.

That's one of the most ridiculous thing I've read on here

Not necessarily, Payet can play anywhere across the front line. If Jose is actually interested in him he'd play centrally and displace Rooney/Mata as #10. Martial is only player in our front four who can stretch the defence, it'd make us even more slow and predictable in attack if we replaced Martial with Payet in the XI. It won't matter because I think this rumor is bollocks.

What a nonsensical signing he'd be. How can Mata, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Zlatan, and Payet play in the same XI? Nevermind Martial and Rooney.

This would be like a Real Madrid vanity signing. Already overloaded in a position but sign a shiny new toy regardless.

Is he better than any of our wingers? He doesn't like to defend and he's a bit slow if you ask me. He's really overrated.

Rather give Depay a chance than sign Payet.

Where would he play considering we have Mata and Miki who play similar roles? it doesnt strike me as a particularly great area of need. we are far better off looking in different areas of the pitch, but im the manager so hey ho.

Maybe you are right but Payet plays for Wham and France on the left side, i.e. where Martial is being used at United. I can't say whether Payet is sufficiently good in a free role behind the CF. Did he play there before moving to Wham?

The club that could really use Payet is Spurs, which badly need an attacking midfielder with creativity and the ability to create chances against settled defenses.

Imagine buying Sissoko for £30m when you could have bought Payet for the same price.

Wasn't to keen when I first heard about this but having thought about it even with his age he could do a great job for us for a couple of years. He has that bit of magic in the final third that we sometimes lack. Like others have said though, we are stacked in his position so someone like Lingard, Mata or Martial is going to drop further down the pecking order which I can't see them being happy about.

Would be a strange and rather shortsighted signing. He's turning 30 and while i think he's a tidy player, he would need to have an immediate impact on the team and help us win the title next season. I don't think he's good enough to carry us to the title though.
