Paulo Dybala

Is it though? He’s one of the best prospects in World football and a genuine Ballon D’or contender. He’d be along with Pogba our best player. If Mbappe is going for similar prices is it really that farfetched?

As I said, all things considered.

Recently how he’s plummeted with his poor form and questionable attitude, I don’t think any club is willing to pay a premium for a guy who’s essentially fallen off the face of the earth. Especially considering he was supposedly neck and neck with Messi and his to be Argentine successor, it’s raised more questions for concern than answers about him. A little bit of turbulence and this is how he reacts/crumbles? Now imagine a team who thought he could potentially be the face of their club and at a fee which wouldn’t be a joke, what do they think of him now? Does he even have such a mentality?

Surely this last little stretch has changed peoples + clubs thoughts on him. I think if he were to be sold £100M at tops would do it (closer to £90M) and so for comparison sake £60M is a lot less absurd than £150M weighing the risks and warnings associated with him atm. Last thing a team wants to do is pay a premium price for a fragile player who could be an absolute waste of money. Not saying he is but you get what I’m trying to get at; seems like a hit-or-miss player at this very moment and you wouldn’t want to be the person held responsible for coughing up a premium fee if he ends up being the latter.

never seen a great deal of him to be fair but when i have hes not exactly stood out, however from all the hype you see about him the 50/60m been talked of in the papers is rather embarrassing.

Goes to show how much he’s fallen and how hesitant teams are to pull the trigger on him for what would still be a pretty hefty amount of money.

I don't want him. He's too small for the EPL and having him around would mean playing Pogba in a 2 men midfield. Let us add top quality on the flanks instead

Very good point.

But a buying club will have to look closely at why he has had a dip in form and what a dip in form means for him. Dybala has had a number of off the pitch issues recently and the constant comparisons with Messi have not helped matters. And despite his poor form, if I remember correctly, he assisted Higuain in 7 of his last 11 goals (I'll be happy to be corrected if I got this wrong).

Form is temporary while class is permanent. I think he'll be great at United. I'll be more than happy to sell Miki and bring in Dybala.

Could very much end up being the case. It’ll definitely be a blessing for whoever lands him if he keeps on balling out the way he’s shown in the past with the fee being cheaper than it otherwise would have been. But at the same time, I think Juventus realizes that and am not sure they’d sell him short because of that. If I was them I’d definitely hold on until his value peaks again so it really depends on how much or if Juventus is willing to ‘short sell’ him at >£100M and how close to £100M the buying club would be willing to pay for him. For all we know, Juvé may or may not be content with >£100M but hypothetically let’s say they would be content, it might lead to a bit of a bidding war between a handful of clubs and up the price that way as well assuming there would be teams willing to take on the risk and ‘go for a bargain’ at below £100M. If a team bid £80M and Juvé would be content (hypothetically), I can see another team offering £85M and another maybe even £90M or including additional add ons surpassing the previous bidder etc.

/ this could play out one of many ways and will be interesting to see.

I don't want him. He's too small for the EPL

Surely not a serious comment..?
Dybala is about 5.10 while Aguero is 5.8....

Dybala looks to be a fantastic talent, I don't know about his consistency though.
What I have seen of Dybala, he doesn't strike me as a perfect compliment to Lukaku at all.

But that's the price range of the quality we need in our team or should we buying from the second tier?..
Not going to disagree that VVDJK should be around 50 mil. 75mil is crazy but the difference is people are making out like he is rubbish, which he certainly is not. Better defenders not already at top tier clubs?

Anyway, on Dybala he’s in a very elite class, you couldn’t buy a team of that level of player as it just simply doesn’t exist. Also just because you have 11 of the best players in their position doesn’t mean the team will be amazing.
Jose surely had more than the 150 mil budget as it seems we were full bore in to buying Griezman, that would have been an extra 90mil on the bil.
I think there probably is a 150mil budget but like Woodward has said if a player is available and it makes sense, money is there to make any deal happen.

I also believe that the money was there for a Griezmann deal, and that's still to be spent.
I wonder what sort of offer would Juventus accept for a double deal of Dybala & Sandro...??

Well I saw yesterday the Express claiming we’ve been told 133mil for Dybala(honestly less than I expected) Sandro apparently rumours for Sandro was 60 mil so 190-210 or something.

I really like Sandro but I have faith that Luke Shaw is the answer to that side so I’m willing to bide my time. As for Dybala been a big fan since his Palermo days and I really want him here as he looks like the kind of guy who could hang with your Neymars and so on. Problem is I’m not sure how or where he’d fit in a Jose team. As I’m not sure we’d be getting the best out of him playing the role like Mata does off the right.

Do it. I’d take him over Griezmann for sure, and think he could have a Suarez-like impact here. Play him as some sort of 7/10 hybrid - an inside forward like how Spurs play the likes of Son and Alli, then have a powerful right back in the overlap.

A narrow front three, with a midfield three, and good overlapping full-backs is what I’d love to see.

Keane was also 5ft10 but he was built like a tank and had the attitude of one. Its not a matter of inches but of built and attitude

Are we really discussing this? There's no way we're getting him. If he leaves it'll be to Madrid or PSG, and he'll cost a fortune!!!

I can agree about quality on the flanks but Dybala is taller than Hazard, Aguero, Silva, Mane, Pedro, Sanchez, Willian, Sterling, Jesus and Mata. He's stockier than a good few of those as well.

Good old Sun..
The only way we get him in January is if he has either seriously fallen out with Juve or he desperately wants to leave Turin.
Breaking up with his girlfriend obviously has affected him but is it possible that he leaves Italy over it?

Juventus have reportedly turned down an offer of £70m plus the services of Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Manchester Unitedin exchange for Paulo Dybala.

The 24-year-old striker is thought to be United manager Jose Mourinho's top target in January as he eyes a long-term replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, although the Serie A sideare rumoured to have demanded a transfer of £133m for the Argentina international.

According to The Sun, United have tabled a first offer of £70m cash as well as the exchange of Mkhitaryan, who is out of favour at Old Trafford after an alleged training-ground row with Mourinho.

The newspaper says that the Old Lady have immediately rejected the proposal as they 'feel they don't need another wide player' and have informed United that only offers of at least £86m will be listened to.

Atletico Madrid striker Antoine Griezmann has also been of interest to Mourinho and he too has a price tag of £86m, but the club are said to have pulled out of their pursuit of the Frenchman in recent days over concerns that he is too expensive.

I think you've posted this in the wrong thread.

What a nonsense article. They literally go from £133m to £86m within 2 paragraphs.

I read the Sun article and I'm fairly sure it's all made up. It says Juve want £86m for Dybala, which goes against everything Juve have been briefing in Italy. According to them, Juve won't sell Dybala in January and if they do eventually sell in the summer, it'll be for closer to £140/150m.

It's been a long time since we had this type of coup. It might be me but once some teams are mention, my mentality is then, we've got no chance. Not sure we are that fashionable anymore, and whilst I like Jose, he's marmite. I think if you haven't been managed by him previously, it's not initially easy. He's also definitely an 'arm around your shoulder' type of manager.

Didn't he renew recently? Unless Juve have been under a stone for the last couple of years, he's not leaving for anything close to 86mil.

Juve are a big club no doubt but we'd blow them out of the water if we competed for Dybala's signature when he was at Palermo. The reason they're stronger than us right now is due to them being shrewd operators in the transfer market. Knowing them, they'd sell Dybala for over a €100m and sign Fekir for half the price and not lose any quality in their squad.

 The arrogance of this is astounding. Blow them out of the water at what? He's a young player looking to continue his development, I highly doubt the be-all and end-all of his decision was 'which club is the biggest in stature and which pays me more'?

He probably went to Juve because he was settled in Italy and they offered him instant league titles and CL football. United meanwhile had just finished 7th and offered none of that.

Small doesn't necessarily mean height. Keane was as tall as Dybala but I never mentioned his ability to survive in the EPL. Its a matter of attitude and physical strength

Maybe he would've still gone to Juve for the reasons you stated but as we never even made a bid we'll never know.

It's not arrogance to state we could go the extra mile in relation to a club like Juve when it comes down to offering a lucrative pay packet.

Yeah I saw that reply to my post and thought nah... not worth continuing. It’s perfectly fine for Adnan to want Fekir more than Dybala (which I personally think is insane) but the lack of knowledge and underrating of Dybala is why I left it.

That's not what I had issue with, it read as though you were basically saying that United could have had Dybala if they wanted him, I was merely arguing the number of logical reasons why I doubt this is the case.

I just think this seems to be a theme on here with a lot of people, fans berating the board for not going for certain players who've gone to other clubs and shone, and I find myself constantly saying 'maybe they didn't want to go to United?' which seems to be blasphemous in most cases.

I've been watching Dybala before Juve signed him and wanted us to sign him back then when he was available for a reasonable fee. But spending huge sums on a single player hasn't worked too well for us.

We can speculate and say it was due to heritage or staying in Serie A for continuity to aid in his development etc. But is it beyond the realms of possibility that a more lucrative offer could sway the player to a club like Manchester United? Van Gaal was our manager then and he's world renowned in nurturing young talent. Pity it never worked out for him here but for another poster to mock LVG in regards to a young Dybala potentially coming here in 2015 was arrogant when you see what the Dutchmans record in developing youth is, especially in his homeland.

I do feel we have missed out on very talented players over the years for measly sums. One example was Vidal when he left Bayer Leverkusen for €9m. He was probably not considered due to not being prem proven.

Of course it's made up, 95% of it is made up and unless transfer negotiations drag over a player and the media is used as a tool by the clubs then they know feck all.
