Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

We probably need to wait for Pogba to return from his holiday before we know what will happen. I don't know if Mourinho wants to wait that long.

Why so nervous?

This is a done deal since many days, probabaly weeks. Why do you even read the Spanish press, do you honestly expect them to write something positive about United? At the moment Real haven't bought any player of significance that's why AS and Marca is having a nervous meltdown. Read between the lines.

Pogba to United will be a huge confidence boost for the club, their partners, the supporters and the STH at OT. Finally we have a player to build our team around. A midfield dynamo with flair and style.

Welcome back Paul Pogba!!

It's my 30th birthday on Wednesday, what a present that would be. A big thank you from Woodward for having his back on here these last few years. I'm beginning to understand the delay.
We share a birthday Pex

Pretty sure Jose will let the most expensive player on the planet finish his holiday before coming here. It's not like he's missing the start of the season for heavens sake.

Tuttosport: Witsel looks for Juve, pending the conclusion of the Pogba case

I am more interested to know what it says about Bonucci. I tried the google translate and it says something like 'Bonucci, no doubt better Allegri Guardiola'. Is it Bonucci saying that Allegri is better than Guardiola? Some one please help with the translation. Thanks.

Having followed this thread for weeks without posting, my own view is that however fantastic a player is and however much he'd improve us, we should only pursue him if we're his number 1 choice. If there's any doubt about that, I'd rather the club didn't continue the chase.

Problem here is that (upcoming) world class players see Real Madrid as the ultimate destination of their career (in most cases even more than Barca) and no other club can match the “myth“ of wearing this white shirt. Even Bayern would lose out to Madrid most of the time no matter how successful they are and so would we, PSG, Juve etc.!

We never can be sure if we are the first choice of any player we sign and even the fact that a player was formed through the academies of Reals arch rivals does never assure they won’t join them in few years’ time (DDG).

Actually I don’t believe that we’d be able to sign Pogba and I never did tbh. It’s been clear for me that Real will jump in at a certain point in time to save face and remain their created image “the best and most expensive players only join Madrid and we can get whoever we want”. They’ve financed a lot of deals by debt in the past (no way they would have been able to acquire Alonso, Kaka and Ronnie in one window without using loans) and I’m sure they will do so again to land their man. So the issue with “Madrid don’t have the funds” is a very vague argument for me because this won’t stop them if they really want to push hard for him. Additionally I don't think that they can't afford him they simply don't want to spend so much money on Pogba and the agent fee.

Losing out on Pogba would surely make us look bad again and considering that the alternatives are decreasing (Gomes joined Barca and Emery has explained that he expects Matuidi back at PSG and has no intention to sell him) we could end up missing out to strengthen a very important position again.

That clears it up

I don't know where this ridiculous notion comes from that they can't afford Pogba unless they sell either Moratta or James for a crazy fee. It really is made up bullshite by some on here on the caf. Why can United afford the deal without selling any player and could Real Madrid not ? They make as much money as us, don't fool yourself.

The common sense dictates that they can pay as much for Pogba as we can but they aren't going to because they don't need him as much as we do. Perez is not sold on Pogba, else he would have already been a Madrid player by now, Zidane would like him but he ain't a necessity because they have a very good midfield with Kroos, Modric, Casemiro. So € 120m or more is excessive for a player you don't need and Perez is not crazy about.

Our situation is different, we are desperate for a big signing and our midfield is shite so Pogba is like the best signing United can make and we are desperate, that is why we are going to pay the €120m or more that Real won't.

It's not about them not having the money.

It'd be easier for them to pay the 120 million if they received half from a sale.

I don't understand the press. If anyone has the chance I recommend watching the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary called "Pony Excess". It's about SMU in the 80s and the large-scale payment of student athletes, which is against NCAA rules. The local papers and TV news dug it out and buried them, which caused the university to lose its football program for a year. Seems worlds away from Marca basically running PR for Madrid.

Pogba loves those shorts doesn't he? Seems like it's always the same pair, clear evidence Juve aren't paying him enough and he needs this transfer to buy some clothes.

#FreePogba

Like he'd tell that stranger where he's heading off to.

Well he might tell him his career plans, knowing no one would believe the guy because well why would Paul Pogba tell some stranger in Miami which club he's going to next..lol

Most likely a bullshitter though.

Those Twitters journalists wannabes need to be more creative now. Instead of a picture with a time stamp and a geolocation, they also need a recorded video shot where they ask "Paul, what's going on? You're staying at Juventus, your family, or what?" And then Paul replies "No mate, I am going back to United, my first family, we are waiting for the marketing to be ready before announcing it, I already signed the contacts", or something like that. Only then they should be allowed to publish their stuff, really. What's that random picture anyway?

I'm getting bored of all this Pogba talk, just sign him or move on.
Same here. Worst case scenario would be that we're so paralysed by trying to land Pogba that we miss out on other targets. But hopefully that's not the case, and there is actually some sort of clarification to the whole situation behind the scenes.

But am I the only one who thinks that the deal is less and less likely for every day that passes by? Surely it can't be that hard to just finalise the deal and move on. And it also seems like Mourinho would want it to be over with as fast as possible. And I don't buy the whole "Tottenham did the same thing with Bale to wrap up replacements" thing. Other teams dealing with Juventus would surely know it if Pogba was going?

Also, it doesn't make sense that we are waiting for Higuain to be announced first? The logical thing would be to sell Pogba first and then sign/announce Higuain to do damage control/please the fans. The other way around makes no sense. "Let's sign Higuain and please the fans, and then, just when they're happy, let's announce that Pogba's leaving"...

I still don't think Pogba is staying at Juventus. He's definitely leaving IMO.

The worst case scenario is him heading off to Real which may mean we buy James. But logically everything points to Real being out.

That said, if there's nothing new this week, I'll begin to doubt.

Real will need a loan to finance Pogba's move. That loan is not happening this time apparently, the Spanish prosecution is all over them with those stories of Real benefiting from some political pressure on banks to give them loans.

@carvajal can you give your insight on that matter?

Scholes is right. Lets stop this madness now. We have it in our power to do so.

Can't remember when Jose said he will be guaranteed to start though. All I heard from interview is he said Rooney is #9,#9.5,#10. Although I believe he will, but doesn't mean he won't be dropped if he fails to perform.
Jose proved with Mata at Chelsea that if you don't perform how he wants/to the level he wants you won't make the team whoever you are. I'd like to see Rooney prove us all wrong and earn a place in the lineup, but I won't be putting any money on it and if he's against pog/mata for a #10 role or ibra/martial for a #9 then I don't think he stands a chance.

But then we can't be spending £300k/week on a bench warming captain and we do know Jose used to admire rooney.

Real don't need politicians to have loans.

I mentioned the same (Madrid being the ultimate destination) as few weeks ago and got totally shot down for it. Sometimes feels like Pogba's not bothered about us but he must have given us some encouragement for us to make these huge offers. If he was really enthusiastic about us he'd be cutting short his holiday and be looking to get started with us. If he does go to Madrid he wins as he'll play off our wage offer against theirs. Also, Juve win as Real now know that £100m or whatever is the minimum.

I'd love him to return but I'm not convinced he wants to.

Why would Real need political support to get a loan?

They are a cash generating business, with multiple international recognised brands and growing revenues - they would get a loan quicker than you and I could borrow some cash from our best mates.

Moreover, I'm pretty sure they won't even need a loan to finance this Pogba deal. They just don't need/want to pay Juve this tremendous fee + pay Raiolas cut as they are not in need for Pogba. So they're playing hardball like they always do and hope that the player will force a move, thus, enhancing their negotiation power.

Can people stop spouting the shite that he doesn't want to come back here and we are forcing him. If Pogba comes here then it's because he believes we are a huge club with a very enticing project spearheaded by the best manager in football. If he had the option to go to Madrid I think he might choose them but that option doesn't exist and he clearly would prefer to play for Utd over Juve which is a big statement in itself. In terms of him leaving down the line, if Utd get back to winning ways on the pitch in the next couple of years, players like Pogba won't be going anywhere.
