Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

Unfair post in my opinion. 120 million would get you three very high quality players. For example, we could buy Mahrez, Kroos and Bonucci for that sort of money and whilst they aren't Ferraris, they are most certainly Porsche's and would offer more improvement to our squad than 1 "Ferrari".
Bonucci has been valued at least £50m, daresay there wouldn't be much change left out of £40m for Mahrez. Do you really think that you could get Kroos for £30m?

Stop with this. Madrid wouldnt let Kroos go for at least £60M. Plus you arent figuring in salary. Besides I think Jose knows whats better for his team than you do no?

Agreed! Madrid sold us Di Maria for that price even after they didn't want him. Imagine what the fee would have to be for them to even consider selling Kroos, Something crazy maybe.... 100 mil??? ;)

We will definitely find out tonight if Juve accept the agreement, which they will.

Pogba will be ours by tomorrow.

Man that turnover chart really shows how much football has blown up over the Sky/Prem years.
Crazy.

ITV also reporting he has agreed a five-year deal with us.
I thought we'd agreed personal terms with him ages ago (according to various reports...and by ages ago, I mean several days ago!). The only small matter that remained at the time was an actual agreement with Juventus.

Football should be the sole determinant of who we buy, while commerce might legitimately influence how much we pay.

He is going to cost so much since he is still young, no major injury issues, he is the best player at Juventus who are the richest club in Italy and they do not want to sell him.

The thing that shocked me was that David May was once our most expensive signing (at least for a year) maybe I have a skewed opinion of May because of the talk about the treble photos - it was before my time

Have we ever released/ sold a player only to buy him back later before? This seems to be a first for us, I think.

I'm hoping he can have a similar impact to Matic at Chelsea in his second spell.

Mark Hughes no?

I got quoted over 10 times so I won't multi quote all of you, but my comment was more focused on us being able to buy 'Porsche's' for 120 million instead of the so called Mondeo's that the tweeter/poster suggested we would be forced to buy.

Mahrez is the current player of the season and wouldn't cost any more than 40m.

Reports suggest that City are close to Bonucci for 50m. We could gatecrash the transfer and offer higher wages to him. Thats 90 million for 2 world class players with 30million left over.

As some posters have argued, we wouldn't get Kroos for 30m and its a valid point. My argument was mainly regarding the fact that alternatives for Pogba would still be top quality.

For the posters that are overly concerned about prices, we are linked to Matuidi and could sign him for 30million. He's no Kroos or Pogba, but along with Mahrez and Bonucci, I believe that our squad would be stronger and we would be getting more 'bang for the buck' than just Pogba.

These are all realistic alternatives and are linked to moves away from their respective clubs as we speak.

In fact, goong back to the original analogy, I daresay that Mahrez and Bonucci would resemble Ferrari's themselves along with Matuidi as a Mercedes.

Interesting tweet:

I've always been on the "Pogba is too expensive" side. I even voted "No" in the poll above. But this comparison is quite legtit actually.

Edit: I still stand by my vote. At least till we actually buy him. I will then forget the financials and claim that he's the best player in the world and a total bargain.

There's always one/few/minority in every fanbase. Let's not tar them all with the same brush, even if they all come across as cnuts over there on that forum.
You're right. Some are calling him on that shit but seems like he's adamant to keep looking like a douche in his feverish raging over the very likely scenario of Pogba leaving.

What type of midfielder do you want though? If you want the incisive midfield maestro then those players don't come into the equation.
Not everybody plays the 'Give the ball to the front 3' style of football.

I can't stop laughing. I guess you're being sarcastic?

Or you're downplaying the best CM's in the world when comparing them to a 23 year old player who is coming from a midfield heavy team that is light years ahead of everyone else in their league, and then you go on to call him incisive.

Oh, and btw, midfield maestro, that's not Pogba. He's box to box. Kroos, Modric, Iniesta, the ones you're downplaying are a definition of midfield maestro's. If you wanted a young "midfield maestro", there's a guy playing in PSG, but they say he's not for sale.

I had a bit of a run in with a couple of Juve fans on facebook, they simply refused to acknowledge that Pogba had good things to say about United. Even after giving them links to interviews where he said he still loved United they just downright denied it and said it was all made up.. It was both sad and hilarious at the same time. I fear there will be quite a few muppet suicides among them if he goes on to sign for us, which is looking very, very likely.

By half time of the second televised game of the 16/17 season the PL will have generated more broadcast revenue than in the entire final season of old First Division.

of course, but perhaps it could have been deleted.
I agree, but I don't know forum rules on what posts get deleted. There was one in this thread the other day from a United fan who made a racist post regarding Pogba (the plane tweet). However that wasn't deleted so I'm assuming forums view deleting member's posts as censhorship? If it were up to me they would be deleted.

Back on topic, what shirt number do you think he will take when he arrives?

They brought this onto themselves. Had they been more humble, then the fall wouldn't hurt so much like this. I actually feel a bit of sympathy for them, because we've been in that situation before, when a club comes in with a monster offer and your player actually wants to go, suddenly it makes you feel not so big anymore. And had they not been clowning around and acted arrogant a few weeks ago it wouldn't be as embarrassing or hard to accept as it is now.
Exactly this !!!

The guys over there became increasingly arrogant and overconfident about this entire Pogba saga that they convinced themselves we(over here at the Caf) were clowns deluding ourselves and clutching at straw about Pogba coming back. Even entertaining such thoughts would earn you the label of delusional at that place.

The last 24 hours or so, they've come to such a brutal and sudden realization that they've turned nasty and some are still in complete denial

The sad part is he will be under a lot of pressure because of this fee. Unless he starts performing Ronaldo/Messi/Suarez level people will get on his back.

Can't understand why they are so bitter, they got him on a free and now will receive more than €100 million for him. Were Spurs fans this bitter when Madrid bought Bale?

In regards to the team - Mahrez, well he's had one good season but, would he add that much to a team that already has Martial / Mkhitaryan out wide with Zlatan up top? Even moving Mkhitaryan in the middle means moving Rooney out, which isn't going to happen. With what we already have, Mahrez is no longer that much of a value add at 40m+ and wages.

Same goes for Bonnuci - for 50m, is he that much of an upgrade to 2 strong CM in Smalling/Bailey and coming to the Premier League not knowing how he may or may not perform?

Matuidi - again, how much of an addition is he say compared to a Herrera?

Maybe for the 3 combined players you might get a bit more out of them on the pitch, maybe. But, with everything else - a top young CM who is marketable, who lifts the players around him and the fans, that other teams will be out there adjusting for him, his age and his ceiling - on top of already being a player that probably will walk into any team in the world - there is a lot more the club will get out of him in the long run. And this value in the market is what got us into a situation of having to try and buy our way out after Fergie - trying to get more bang for the buck rather than splunking for the best possible player in a given position.

So you're okay spending 50m+ and 30m on two 29 year olds? Firstly we wont get Bonucci for 50m because City had a 51m bid rejected. Mahrez wont go for less than 45m. Ranieri said that himself. All this is in pounds. Pogba deal is in Euros. So essentially for 100m POUNDS we wont even get Bonucci and Mahrez but we have Pogba.

The mind boggles. If we want Mahrez, we can buy him on top of it anyway.

No new updates yet, Woody needs to speed things up if he wants to seal this before the City game in China (which he is supposedly going to).

The sad part is he will be under a lot of pressure because of this fee. Unless he starts performing Ronaldo/Messi/Suarez level people will get on his back.
How is that true? If a player delivers the goods nobody goes on about the fee. Is Bale worth £5m more than Ronaldo? No, but he delivers the goods so the fee becomes irrelevant. Was Martial worth £50m in his first year? No, but he was good enough for people to understand the fee. If Pogba plays well this season people will understand the fee - with all those years ahead of him. He doesn't need to perform at Messi's level instantly. The only players who have been slammed for their fee is because they were shite..Torres, Carrol etc.

I can't think of any example of somebody who has played well for a club but still gets stick because of the enormous price tag. They get stick because of their performance and expectations exist based on their footballing ability for previous teams, not how much they were signed for. Pogba just needs to play well and the fee will become irrelevant, we are just buying a top player...we are buying immense potential. Nobody will get on his back if he isn't the best midfielder in the world for us.

Kroos has scored 3 goals for you in two seasons.
Modric has 7 goals in 4 season at Madrid.
Ramos has more career goals than Iniesta.
Terry has more career goals than Iniesta and Busquests combined.
If you want a goal threat, somebody to supplement the attacker then these players are not for you.
Playing behind a dominant front 3 that protect your flaws? Someone there to control the centre of the field? Why yes sign those players.
There are different types of midfielders for different modes of play.
