Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

Unfair post in my opinion. 120 million would get you three very high quality players. For example, we could buy Mahrez, Kroos and Bonucci for that sort of money and whilst they aren't Ferraris, they are most certainly Porsche's and would offer more improvement to our squad than 1 "Ferrari".
That's wishful thinking. In reality the Pogba money has gotten us Fellaini, Schneiderlin, and Herrera.

Yeah you aren't getting 3 of them for 120million.
City couldn't get Bonucci for 50m.
Madrid wouldn't sell Kroos for less than 60m.
Mahrez isn't going for less than 45m.

Obviously he will have an impact on the reputation of the club, but what I'm saying is; in terms of sheer numbers of income through his marketability short term, that doesn't justify paying £100m for him. The original post was aimed at someone saying something in the lines of us paying so much money for him because he will earn it back for us through marketing.
Why are you limiting the deal's impact to only the short term when this is, for all intents and purposes, a capital investment and thus a long term venture. The £100m we are spending is so as to allow us to exploit a window of opportunity to sign a player who wouldn't be available to us when everyone is involved, if Barcelona and Real Madrid were in play we wouldn't be signing him. Plus I doubt you would, or most on here, be in a position to know the ins and outs of how Woodward intends to exploit Pogba's image rights to make such a declaration, if there is one thing that Woodward and the Glazers would be clued up on is the financial side of this deal.

Hmmm like Carrick? No it takes more than that.

For W.Keane to become a marketing dream he'd need to score loads of goals for club (and then for country), like Rooney.
If he can do that, he'll be following Rooney's path. But that's not easy.
Rooney may be average now, but when he was a teenager, the guy was dynamite. In his first CL game - he scored a hat-trick. He was a force of nature and used brute force to get the ball into the back of net.

Carrick - this guy barely gets to play for England.

You really can't. Can people stop these posts please?

Some(rather one poster I saw) over there at Juventuz are now calling him the N word. Things gone south over there

Why have you seemingly added the arbitrary 'short-term' consideration to how long he takes to pay his way?

We become a force again with Pogba as a key component, and of course his marketability will grow exponentially with that. Pogba's avenues to "paying his way" are multiple times greater than your usual footballer who can only do that via the pitch. His marketability is of huge value to us as a club both directly and indirectly.

No you aren't. Why this constant downplaying of transfer fees? You wouldn't even get Bonucci and Kroos for £120m let alone adding Mahrez in there. And there's no chance Madrid sell Kroos to us anyway.
This.

Seems like some people have yet to realize how inflated the market has become. 120M isn't going to get you much in this market anymore. It's either a top player, a WC one(if one is lucky) or just a couple of good players, no more than that.

Stop with this. Madrid wouldnt let Kroos go for at least £60M. Plus you arent figuring in salary. Besides I think Jose knows whats better for his team than you do no?

 €120 million doesn't get you close to the three of them.

Seriously though,

Pogba's high technical skills combined with his unique image and name are what make him marketable.

I think his ethnicity is also a factor, not many black superstars in football at the moment.

This.

I think Pogba would be hugely marketable here in the States even though soccer/football isn't marketed here.

And yes...there aren't enough superstar black footballers in the world. The fact that three players with so much potential may all play for the Reds (Martial, Rashford and Pogba) is simply amazing.

That Juventus forum is hilarious. They are so bitter about the prospect of this. As if Pogba would be showing more ambition staying in that utterly dire Italian league winning his 5th league title on the trot. It's not like they don't sell their best players every year either, so their ambition for the CL is all talk no action. If Pogba stayed though they would have a shot at it this year so you can see why they would be angry at the club. At least if they dealt with Madrid they could get a few players in return.

Saw that, Haven't spent much time on that forum but went on today to check they weren't suicidal and that was one of the first posts I saw! Classy bunch

I don't want us to sign him today. I'm just not ready for the blitz of it all. Just delay it by couple of days Woody my boy.

The muppet madness when he's shown wearing the United shirt during his signing. We're Manchester United, we'll do what we fecking want.

That phrase being repeated over and over again does my head in, do you think a football player is an item on the shelf that you can just decide to throw in the trolley and pay up at the till? If we could sign we surely would have but indications are that Pogba is the player we can sign right now. What would you have: us spending the summer chasing an unattainable player only to sign an elbowing machine at deadline day or for us to overpay by around £20m for a player that wants and will come here and improve our side? Another aspect is that Pogba is Mourinho's first choice so it's better to give the manager the player he wants and succeed on the pitch than save a small fortune only to watch other clubs sweep all the trophies.

I think your agreeing with me? OP said that Nick Powel would become marketable if he became a regular for United, Carrick has been and isn't.

There's always one/few/minority in every fanbase. Let's not tar them all with the same brush, even if they all come across as cnuts over there on that forum.

Great post

This is actually happening? Expected this to turn out like Vidal and his saga.

I am ecstatic personally, there are better players out there but Pogba offers and incredibly unique skillset.

Our team with him could be very physically dominant with the likes of Ibra, Pogba, Bailly, Smalling, Shaw and Valencia. Martial and Mkhitaryan aren't wimps either. And in a few years maybe TFM and Herrera might play together, one of whom is a beast and Herrera is feisty. Not to mention Rooney who is still very strong.

They genuinely think that they're above us in terms of prestige in football. We've had a shit few years but we're still by an absolute mile a bigger name in football.

They brought this onto themselves. Had they been more humble, then the fall wouldn't hurt so much like this. I actually feel a bit of sympathy for them, because we've been in that situation before, when a club comes in with a monster offer and your player actually wants to go, suddenly it makes you feel not so big anymore. And had they not been clowning around and acted arrogant a few weeks ago it wouldn't be as embarrassing or hard to accept as it is now.

Better players in his position?

Exactly my thoughts.

Imagine If no one knew about the figures involved in deals. Imagine If all we knew was "Pogba signed for United on a 5 years contract". Would any of you still believe we could've signed 3 or 4 other players instead? I don't think so. Since it's not our money (well, not directly our money at least) and since we've been arguing for so long that the Glazers are milking the club and don't invest in the squad, I am more than happy with this signing, even at a record fee.
