There are several advantages in finalizing deals as early as possible. Mourinho even said that he wanted to gett the stuff done early

Doesn't matter to us as long as he arrives when he's done with his holiday, which is what I assume we are targeting.

This thread bumps 7 or 8 pages every time I refresh

What the hell

It was a bit tounge-in-cheek. I get that all the paperwork etc takes time, but the meeting itself between the clubs to negotiate the price shouldn't take more than a couple of days.

Hope I didn't ruin your day with my post.
Futile hope. Day ruined! :(

Yeah, that's why I said it was a bit tounge-in-cheek. My point was that these negotiations take longer than they should, as we all know how fast a deal can happen and I don't see a point in spending a week or two on something that can be done in a couple of days.

The player wouldn't be available to the manager for a few weeks yet anyway due to his involvement in the Euros, and negotiation may save a few million quid which might seem small fry in the scheme of things but is still a few million quid and absolutely worth the effort.

We're talking about a £100m asset purchase here, it amazes me how people think these things are straightforward.

That's how transfers work for all clubs though. Surely people are used to it by now. The reason clubs can rush a deal through for the deadline is because they have the motivation to. That applies to both parties. No such motivation exists with this deal. It's only impatient fans that want it done in a flash and to hell with any consequences. The fans thoughts on how quickly it should be done is well done on the list of the clubs priorities.

To be fair I think he got a fair bit of credit for both ADM and Falcao. Although I would agree this signing is far more of a coup and demonstration of his negotiating or 'deal-making' skills. Let's hope as well this one works out better than the previous two!
Huh? In what way does this demonstrate his negotiating or deal making skills?! He's offering a world record sum for a player who most of us don't think is worth that much in terms of current absolute financial value. This is one of the easiest decisions Juve have ever had to make when it comes to whether to turn down or accept an offer!

his 5 star skills in midfield on FIFA 17 will be worth the £100m alone. Good job woody.

If this really is happening, I'm fully expecting an announcement before July is out anyway. Going by Mourinho' 4th signing comments.

It won't be official until he gets back from holiday I reckon. But what we need is the news to come out that a fee has been agreed between the two clubs. That seems imminent - possibly within hours.

No shit it isn't straight forward. Point is, it's in the interest of both clubs to finalize this asap. Juve will have more time on their hands to get a replacement. United will be allowed to move their focus elsewhere, whether that'd be another potential signing or not. And I don't see any point in dithering around for longer than needed. It probably won't save us much euros either if we negotiate for a week extra. Juve seem quite settled on their selling prize.

My original post was clearly misinterpreted. I never meant to critizise Woodward for not finalizing this within half an hour.

United will make a lot of money from Pogba's marketing. After he becomes the world's most expensive player playing in the EPL he will attract lots of sponsors for United and himself and of course United will have about 50% of his image rights.

He's worth about £50 million as a footballer right now but with his potential and marketability it will be a good move for United in the long term.
In a broken market, Pogba, as a raw talent, is worth more than £50m.

I don't agree with the fee for him, but it's very easy to see how quickly the numbers escalate from base worth as an actual footballer.

United Tax
Age Tax
English club Tax
Buying from a top club Tax.

Tally those four up alone, and see how much it adds to his value, and that's before potential, marketability and injury record and the fact they don't want to sell are even factored in.

If Martial went for what he did, Pogba would've gone for more than that even he was at a small club.

If people would break this down realistically, they would see we're paying over the odds, but not by much whether they like it or not.

If I buy a can of coke, I still have to pay for the can. We want Pogba's footballing skills but we still have to pay for his marketability. And paying for his marketability doesn't mean that is the reason we are buying him, just as me buying a can of coke doesn't mean the can factors into my decision for buying it.

Very interesting this.

Veron and ferdinand were signings that were a higher expense/revenue than Pogba. Shows how much we have grown. Also shows we almost spent 20% of our turnover back then on 1 signing even then.

King Eric. Value for money.

Less said about Di Maria, the better.

Doubt that we pay a lot extra for his 'marketability'. As for shirt sales, I don't believe we're talking about major figures. Maybe one day when Rooney retires or gets sold and we need a new poster boy, then he could be valuable in the 'marketability' department.

The mood has really turned over there at Juventuz.
Its gone from denial to anger... poor guys :(

You can't be serious?

I don't get people who are arguing about the time of the negotions and are ridiculing those that say it should happen fast with green smileys and FM references.

100 million or not, the deal can be wrapped up in a day or two. It truly at this point shouldn't take that long. Clubs always finish deals on deadline day.

Also 7of the top 10 signing on that list turned out to be good signings in the end. Just shows spending small amounts on a lot of players can be a false economy.

I still don't get half the caf arguments re transfer fees. How can you accurately measure the worth of a player who may well play his part in us winning the EPL and the CL? So much of what he is "worth" depends on what we achieve in the future (on the pitch and commercially) and whilst I know that there's more crystal balls on the caf. than a South Coast seafront nobody can assess that. He could ultimately be "worth" 5 times what we pay for him.

I love Juve as a club, always have since my younger days, but their fans over on that forum throughout this saga has been a real eyeopener for me. They cry that we talk about signing Pogba, yet they have threads on their boards with who they are linked to and are posting much the same as the stuff we posted in here. Hypocrites.

They will still win the league hands down without Pogba. And I suppose if they feel they can't, they can always go back to bribing teams.

Only 5 (maybe 6, if you include Park) players on that list came to us as the finished article, so paying a premium for potential on top of brilliance to that point in time is very much a running theme. You adjust for the barminess of the markets these days and a young Rooney, Rio, Keane etc. would cost the same as Pogba... it's just that €100m sounds and reads as an absurdity moreso than 8-figure sums do.

Once there's a couple more 9-figure purchases, the furore around the price will die a death.

Thread should get a rename, something about what dictates a players worth

Then people can argue if it's
A. Their opnion or
B. Actual economics

It's such a fun topic after all

they are not hard core Juventus fans. I wonder if they ever been to Turin the first place

The fighting over money gets dull. This guy has his priorities right:

Saw that on twitter and haven't saw anyone say it better. I don't care how much cheaper Sissoko is, I want Pogba.

I don't think the forum is the most accurate representation for Juventus fans, as I believe it's only the English-speaking posters who frequent it.

mwuuuhahahahahaha, at last, free, free to rejoice, freedom to post in the big boys rcafe and at what a time, just in time, for the greatest muppet transfer behind Monsieur Vidal.

Now we all know how that one went, but this time it will be different, surely it will be.

And what of Pogba, the darling of Old Trafford, the return of the Prodigal son, have read almost every single page of this vast thread, 17 bloomin thousand and two hundred and forty something posts.

Some of quality, some of *rap and some that one cant even justify, but the one thing thats stands out is none of it matters as Pogba is coming back, muppets rejoice, rejoice I say.

And having read all those posts, please forgive me for this slight OT, but why oh why are some peeps feeling the need to find issues with Acquire Me? Having read every single one of his/her posts have not seen anything but a genuine person passing down information to quench the first of the muppet clan!

Always humble, in good jest and with no bigotry, yet some seem intent to not pay him in kind!

So far he has been exemplary and always making clear that the information is simply passed down to him from someone he trusts and yet still, some peeps continue to post negative comments against a fellow fan!

No more to be said of this, back to the darling Pogba.

'Son' please dont break our hearts again, please dont let anything sway you away. It has been said that you regreted the decision to leave, though it was too late to turn back, so we have waited, watched and held onto the hope that one day you may return.

Have no idea what I would do, if you happened not to return, the strain may be too much coming after the Vidal saga, only now have I managed to post again.

see you soon, beloved ................

They seem completely blindsided by the developments. They genuinely thought that they would be keeping Pogba for another season at least and even if he did want to leave, it would never be for United.
They have also accurately come to the conclusion that even with all that money, he will be almost impossible to replace.... though I think that with Pjanic, Matic and possibly Higuain they have a stronger side that can still win the champs league.

Also, posts on their forum saying they would prefer to sell to Real makes feck all sense either. This is a team that want the CL, and yet they would prefer to sell to a team in the CL and hamper their chances that bit more.
