Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

He will always be below this level of player in terms of goals and limelight though. We are paying top dollar here way over the odds for a midfielder! I want him here but those are just obvious facts. It's like buying a young Steve G in some ways.

We really aren't when you consider his implied valuation. We are not talking about any young midfielder, we are talking about a player who some believe may wind up the best midfielder ever.

I'm just going to say this for your own sake, going forward in life: No, they are not. They are really not.

They seem pretty good to me, certainly better than some of the journos/ITKs that are treated as gospel in here.

Are you taking the piss? It's just traders putting money down to ensure they get a profit. Odds mean absolutely nothing.

No I'm not taking the piss....I did preface the comment with FWIW. Some people are interested in changes in odds, whether it's based on a surge of bets, or information, whatever. For example, I think this transfer is in the balance personally, so I'm much happier to put money on Juve at 2.75 yesterday than 2.25 today

Pilib de Brún has just said on his live stream that, barring any last minute disasters, Pogba will be joining United once he's back from LA, so could be done in around 10 days/2 weeks.

Ha are they really. Like Rooney was the next Pele. If he had a ballon d'or under his belt or was even close he would still be a massive stretch from being called that. He has potential to be a great player let's leave it there as even that's looking into a glass ball. He is worth a huge fee for other reasons for me. It's a huge signal to the markets and football in general that we can take one of best young players ahead of all rivals. He ticks boxes for our massive sponsors who demand purchases on this scale I imagine in return for their 500m commitments to the club. If in 10 years he is regarded as better than zidane and iniesta then most watchers will be amazed.

Two weeks!! this thread will never survive.

That's all irrelevant. The important story here is that our club and new manager want to buy him and they are infinitely more qualified than anyone here to analyze the merits of buying Pogba relative to what Mourinho wants to build here.

Central midfielders usually are the guys that control the game and play second fiddle to the attackers - Pogba is of a rare breed of midfielders who are a genuine match-winners themselves (with a goal or an assist, not with the build-up or "pre-assist" like Iniesta). It doesn't mean that he's better than Verratti, for example, but in vacuum (if PSG weren't loaded with money) he would've cost more than him even though their level is, at least, comparable

How many matches did he win last season? Genuine question.

I think it's incredibly unfair on a young, emerging player who is debatably not yet World Class to be burdened with a fee bordering on insanity.
Being on an absolutely massive wage may soften the blow for the poor lad.

Pogba is the type of person to thrive on it. That's just my opinion based on watching him. He's not the shy and retiring type.

Oh I agree but my points I'm sure are in the thinking of those that OK the massive outlay. We need top quality players to push on and he is a young player with real quality with rare physical attributes to boot. Pushed I'm pretty sure Maureen could find cheaper but if he doesn't need to then fine spend away.

Don't know. But as I said, it's not an actual level of his but the fact that he is a highlights player at this point - unlike Scholes, Xavi, Iniesta etc. And usually highlights player cost more (and 80% of them are attackers)

His hair is going to do our street cred a lot of good. I mean fellaini has not long gone blonde too, but he just doesn't pull it off as well. That's the sort of shit that sells shirts.
Around then, I think so. But it's not going to be announced the second he steps off the plane
If he cares at all about stopping a mass muppet suicide it will be!

This transfer, if it happens is bordering on insanity. He is really not required at United and god forbid, if he flops the discounted price we will sell him for will make United a laughing stock.

If he becomes an important player for United, no doubt within the next 3 years Madrid or Barca will buy him off us.

If he's not winning matches single handedly for that outlay the headlines next season about him in particular will be pretty crushing. Not his fault at all but even in here the expectation will be greater than the journo's.

Sometimes you need a bit of imagination. He IS required and if we get him - he will provide a lot of quality through the middle. Who say's we would sell him? Some people care too much about image. United know the player he is. Who cares about them other clubs - if we're on the up and up we could easily retain him. IF he performs well and we choose to sell, we make a profit. That said IF we get him, we shouldn't think to sell.... And should he need time to bed in then stick will come but then Jose would know how to protect the players from the negativity.

In 3 years time the ability of non PL teams to take the best players from the PL will be pretty impossible for me. Spanish football presidents have already said the same. The fact even now Real cannot finance the deal ahead of a United team that finished 5th suggests it's already happening......

In what world is a world class midfielder not required at United?

And if he stays for three years and is such a success that Madrid or Barca come calling then we'll have got three great years and a tidy profit I'd imagine.

Great news guys. .
Just checked this and its true.

Anyone know how reliable he is (the Malachians guy)?

Not required at United??? Seriously?? I have no idea what his real value is but if anyone looks at this team and thinks Pogba wouldn't improve it then I just don't know what you're seeing.

Ultimately the club will pay the going rate and in this day and age of inflated transfers then Pogba will go for around £100m, yes we all know it's a ridiculous fee but that's football these days, every season the fees get higher, do you think you could get Bale or anyone of the same standing for less?? No chance at all.
And if he has 3/4 good seasons and Barca or Real come knocking then I guarantee he'll be sold at a profit, guarantee it.

Lets only buy average players with no potential. That should safeguard us from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

How is he not required? We have no cms who should actually be starting this season currently. Even if we sign Pogba our starters would almost certainly be him and Carrick. I don't think many would say Carrick should still be first choice at this stage in his career. Because of how poor our current options are, he's worth overpaying on. If he helps us to 3 Premier League titles and other trophies I really couldn't care less if he's subsequently sold to Real or Barcelona.

You don't have to spend 100m for world class potential that's all people are saying. Sanchez is that and younger and went for a fee we didn't fancy. Pogba is further ahead of that curve ok but no club has ever spent near that for what pogba is and infact for the finished product. Saying football has changed, no we are changing it massively ourselves just by doing this. I still want him though but it's just an outlay not essential at all really for other top talent.

What an avalanche of messages

It's not that he is not a good player. I think with Herrera, Schneiderlin, Bastian, Carrick, Blind , who can play there and perform quite well. You do not need to break the bank for a player of Pogba's quality. Plus he is not really world class yet in my opinion. You are buying potential for 100 + million.

Herrera will be a star player this season for United. Him and Schneiderlin should be the first choice midfielders.

United want too. We may do other business too if we sell some players. We've got great options, especially with the youth coming through. Should we sign him, this move could make him. That's all it takes. We have pereira. Adnan. TFM and various other young talents coming through. These could be viable options this season or next.

I'm sorry but Pogbas potentially better then all of them...combined..I'm kidding :) But I think some people are underestimating him. All the players can play there but they are not better. Pogba is very skillful and will generate a lot of excitement. We're not talking about potential to be a good midfielder. If he fulfills his potential, he'll be the best midfielder of his generation. And Dechamps is a muppet for playing him as a DM.

Can someone actually break down what Pogba's specialty is?

Aside from the odd decent strike with Juventus and the odd flash of quick feet, every time I've watched him over the last couple of years he's drifted in and out of games.

Also, he slips more than any player I've ever seen.

People are saying de Brun is realiable? Is it safe to whip it out again? Who am I kidding, it was never in.
