Do you want Pogba for £100 million?

There's no reason at all for Pogba's camp to do anything until after the Euros, so I suspect this will be a very uneventful thread for a good month yet.

His bargaining position can only go up, so if he has a stellar Euros, he'll then be sought after as a ready-made and proven superstar. If he wants only Madrid, then the Euros are a perfect proving ground for him, and he'll be going there off the back of a world record transfer.

We, as in English clubs, but United in particular, need Pogba to have a bad tournament, actually, or for France to bomb early.

In a direct head-to-head, with Pogba a newly crowned star (or one of) of the tournament, we stand next to no chance.

If we can do it, do it. It'll right a wrong, Sir Alex's thinking was morally correct regarding a youngster demanding such high wages but Pogba's subsequent development (and indeed his already considerable talent while at United) means that we cannot afford to see him go elsewhere and be a mega-star as he moves towards his peak years.

The "embarrassing for us to pay £80m for someone we lost for free" narrative is a strange one.

Who's going to be embarrassed? Mourinho? Woodward? They'll both be proud as punch to be rectifying a ridiculous scenario that neither were involved in.

Personally as I watch him lash in 30 yard thunderbolts against our rivals I'll be sat head in hands, 'oh woe! oh damnation! we broke the transfer record on this lad.'

Interesting that when all the mooted returns for Ronaldo were on the british press agenda it was never labelled as embarrassing once, as far as I can recall.

Daniel Taylor is no bullshitter, one of the most reputable journalists out there.

Presumably you dont need the difference between those situations explained to you? We got a world record fee for Ronaldo, whereas Pogba left for free.

Ogden used to be regarded as some kind of journalistic god a few years ago. What happened?

Moyes was sacked and as a result Ogden had less dinner dates and less to write about.

Presumably, you'll remember Ronaldo was the best player in the world at that point and Pogba just a lot of potential?

Seems like such an obvious Real or Bayern signing.

Considering how easy he is to sign for United on Football Manager, I don't see why it would be any different in real life. Lets get it done.

I really really hope Utd get him, he really stands out for me as the big signing of the summer but I still think he will go to Real or Barca, I think Matic is nailed on to sign for Utd though

He made a qualified guess (he even admitted that) which ended up with him breaking Sir Alex' retirement. He followed that up with being Moyes' lapdog but was left completely out of the loop after LvG was appointed.

I'd be apoplectic if we went and spent money on a world class midfielder.

It'd be disgusting to see us lose the United Way, everyone knows we play with two defenders four wingers and four strikers.

Is Pogba a Barca type player though? They did let Toure go who's similar. As for Madrid, they have a very good collection of midfielders too such as Modric and Kroos, then again that hasn't stopped them before.

What is there to brief?

We are the best clickbait there is, no more needs to be done than link us with a player.
Yeah but it's not like those 2 to just link us with a player on a whim.

Ogden is regularly on United in Press on MUTV. Not sure how much that means but doesn't look good for the club who let journos on who just fabricate stories, but to be fair, maybe there would be no show if they held this standard.

That Ogden article is such a train wreck.

We've "moved into pole position" because City aren't interested. If they weren't fecking interested how could they have been in pole position in the first place?

Because you made shit up in the first place, perhaps?

British press are useless.
Exactly.... This only means city are out. Barca Bayern and Real ears have also just pricked up.... And it would be foolish of us not to see them as already being ahead of us in the chase of Pogba. But who knows, maybe Jose has been tapping him up for months and the lure of scratching the itch of unfinished business at Old Trafford has his adrenaline flowing.

Not so crazy as one might expect as the money in the english game is unrivaled and if he looks 5 years ahead and its easy predict why a player who does well here will be the highest paid players on the planet.

Yeah, it's either United or Real in my opinion. Doesn't fit Barca's style at all.

Ogden and Taylor both on it within minutes of eachother.

Would that not indicate some sort of club briefing?

It's how we brief at the minute. Has Ian Ladyman done an article too? He tends to be in the group chat.

Don't see why he'd choose to come to us to be honest. Why lose a season of champions league football? Even if he wanted to come to us he could wait a season

Money, José. Juve wanting to cash in. Just look at PSG & Citeh, players love a "project".

I don't think the CL thing is as important as some think, money talks.

He's still very young. Aguero, Silva and Toure all went to City without CL football, I reckon it's a complete myth that top players snub you unless you can't meet their wages.

It doesn't have to be the whole truth to be valid; we are in need of quality players and Pogba is a somewhat viable target. It's something they can throw out there and look credible with whilst not having to back up the claim.

It's not news that needs briefing because it has no meaning, but it brings them a boatload of clicks, so it is to their benefit.

If he leaves, there are basically 4 clubs he could join. Real, PSG, United and Chelsea. I dont think PSG would be currently something he would like to do. If Real go for him, he will end up there, but that remains to be seen. I fancy our chances against Chelsea. He is a realistic unrealisitc signing.

Thats it lads, collect that Pogba cash... maybe even consider launching an official broccoli supplier in south korea to push this deal over the line? I feel like we may have fully tapped the noodle market to fund Martial!

I don't think we can get him but maybe unfinished business here, a point to prove? And we can probably pay him as much as anyone else if that matters to him.

It definitely isnt.

But presumably you agree a little bit of embarrassment is worth it for a player of his stature?

Of course. However, I wonder what SAF will be thinking. This was probably one of his biggest "feck-ups", if you could call it that, and Pogba may become the most expensive footballer of all time. Surely that's gonna hurt your ego a little, seeing him playing every week. He'll get over it though, heh. Can't see Pogba ending up anywhere else but Madrid anyway, so this won't be a "problem".

I get what your saying regards Barca to be fair, regards Real, I can see Kroos leaving and Pogba would tick all the boxes for them as a replacement and keep their fans happy at the same time with a big signing

He's "realistic" depending on Madrid I'd say.

I'm sure we'd be willing to outbid them, both in terms of fee and wages, but at this point, if Madrid can offer Juve a fee they will accept and wages that are close enough to ours, he'll be going there.

But a 90m fee and massive wages would be tempting to anyone, as would the title of "World's most expensive footballer".
