Last time United made a big money signing of a player who would rather have gone elsewhere, (and got his wish eventually) it didn't work out too well for United...

Don't bring that up you'll be moaned at! :nono:

Players who would choose United over Madrid/Barcelona is probably a small percent. And that percentage pretty much consists of British players and players who Madrid/Barcelona have shown less/no interest in. A player with the choice of joining/staying at those two (and being a valued squad member) would rarely ever choose to join United.

There's no shame in that, though. We all have our place.
Where United do trump others (even those two) is in pure money available for signing players (without stretching themselves.)

I have always thought, the city and weather play a big part in Madrid and Barcelona's attraction.

People are forgetting that just seven years ago Real Madrid were losing 4-0 to Liverpool while United were reaching back to back CL finals. If you'd asked the world's best players back then which club they'd prefer to join, many would have said United.

But then Real went on an insane transfer splurge, spending over £150m on Ronaldo, Kaka and Benzema. Given market inflation that would probably be over £200m today. That spree looked ridiculous at the time, but the two clubs' trajectories have been going in opposite directions ever since.

United are now trying to do the same thing by signing Pogba - reboot themselves with a superstar transfer. Hopefully it will put us back on the map. Real Madrid have to rebuild their stadium and won't have the same money for players, so maybe United will be the ones looking down from their perch in a few years' time.

It's not about money. We don't need the player and unless pogba asks to leave we will hold on to him.

Our club value him at €100 million. That's not the price of forcing us to sell him though.

That is just the minimum price he will leave for if he were to ask to leave.

You can be sure that value has increased to €120 million since United offered that now.
Wait what? If Juve value the player at €100 million, why would United offer €120 million? The values being mentioned are all paper talk. If Juve want €100 million, I'd think United would start the bidding quite a bit below and increase it eventually to reach €100 million including add ons.

Indeed, football times change so quickly. In 2003, we had just won the league and 4 of the last 5. Barcelona on the other hand, had just gone 5 seasons without winning anything. We fuffed around with the Ronadinho transfer and they got it done. Ronaldinho would go on to be a back to back world player of the year and win them a few titles and a CL whilst United went 3 seasons without a title/CL.

Exactly mate.

When someone values something at a price, thats the minimum they will take for it, not the maximum.

See it as, they will only begin discussions at 100m.

Ye I don't know why, maybe Raiola told United that United his price increased I'm not really sure.

BBC are reliable but also often very behind. I think di marzio and ballague are probably more up to date for this one. At least we can be certain we are definitely interested and are trying to bring him back.

Excellent points being made now, and it goes to show how important this transfer could be if it would ever go through!

Top 10 maybe harsh but there are a few better than him. Modric, Kroos and Iniesta easily and although this will be controversial I still think Bastian when fit is right up there.
I agree with you

No it's the exact opposite. When you're bargaining for something, the salesman will quote you the maximum price and the buyer will try to get it down.
Whether €100 million is what Juve want may not be true, but I was simply responding to the other comment.

"BBC Sport has been told a transfer is "not even out of the starting blocks" -From who ?

"Juventus have refused to comment on the speculation around the player, whose contract runs to 2019."

Acquire me's word is good enough for me,he's been pretty much spot on.

We are talking to them, thats for sure.

Exactly, stats don't tell you the whole story and mean little really oither than a guidline. How many of his assists were important assists, how many of his goals were match winning/match turning goals, how many of his tackles were huge potential goal stopping tackles, same with all the stats.
The only stats that kind of show something 'factual' are assists and goals, and he's in the toip 10 for those.
Could you be banned in here for being too sensible? You are threading a fine line, mate :)

Different situations. In your salesman example, the salesman is trying to sell you the product. If something is on sale, the price can be bargained down. But Juve aren't exactly looking for teams who will buy Pogba are they?

 What an idiot. Why would you even say that. It's not like Real haven't paid over the odds many times before.

Oh, and getting a transfer ban  Shows how this amazing club runs

You obviously have the right to have that opinion , but I have not said anything that is not right yet. We are negotiating the transfer for Paul Pogba and the talks are going well. There are still negotiations , which tells me that reports that they will reject the price reported in the media is not correct. Even the price can be wrong.
Phew, could be pure luck :D

No club wanted Mourinho? Didn't Madrid offer him a chance to come back to them in January? Also PSG were in talks to get him as a replacement for Blanc. On the to subject of our transfers so far. Mhki whilst being in the last year of his contract, which has nothing to do with how good a player is, is far superior to Kagawa in every department bar finishing. He ended the season with 23 goals and 31 assists, depending on which source is used. Ibra was wanted around the World by numerous teams and decided against earning himself a mega payday in China and resisted various other EPL teams to let United sign to Zlatan. Bailly was unkown to me but from what Ive read about the guy it seems he was widely regarded by Barcelona and PSG but we were just quicker to getting him signed up, plus he looks a very decent player who still needs improving.

Juventus fans are seriously deluded, yes they get into the Champions League each season but cmon guys you have won the competition twice and the last time was 1996. Its all good qualifying for it but if you don't win it despite having the Worlds best defence and midfield then your future looks bleak. Italian football isn't what it used to be from the 90's. I used to love watching Channel 4 on a Saturday morning Gazzetta football, but now the league is a joke and comparisons to the Scottish League spring to mind due to the one horse race each season.

Why are Juventus called the Old Lady? Cause their never done moaning about stuff and always living off stories from the past.

Not gonna make a Kevin Keegan type comment on Pogba, 'How I would love it if we signed him'. I fear it could haunt me for years on here.
Not gonna lie, this was a very good rebuttal

Is Balague a Madrid fan or what? I don't get where these salty tears are coming from.

Surely he wouldn't be having such a meltdown if he wasn't pretty sure this will happen?!

Balague is trolling the United fans. He sounds as if he has been briefed by Madrid to tell the world that Pogba wants to go there but he is overpriced.

Like United fans care...

Just saw a tweet saying Juve are interested in Depay. I would have liked to see him stay but if it makes getting Pogba easier, we'd be stupid not to include him in some sort of deal to bring the price (slightly) down.
