whilst i agree, this is partly why people gave/give madrid so much stick, with their galactico policy, and need to keep spending big/break records etc.

Yeah I'm sure they're crying themselves to sleep over there in Madrid with all those trophies. Wish we'd install such a galactico policy much sooner.

You guys must be optimistic though aye? Hard not to be. Zlatan AND Pogba. In one window.
I would be lying if I said I wasn't optimistic and excited. I think we've made excellent signings this window and not to forget we have Mourinho as manager who is for sure one of the best managers in the world. Can't wait for the season to begin.

You really think Madrid couldn't afford him and that's why he didn't go there  Let's get real. He didn't go there because they didn't want to pay him the amount of money he demanded... not because they couldn't. I also think that adding the ambition of Pogba to those of Ronaldo and Bale wasn't without big risks... it's a lot to have 3 alphas. Even Bale and Ronaldo clashed for Bale's first 2 years. It's only this past year that Bale/Ronaldo co-existed well and that's mostly on Zidane. Ronaldo was rumored to be looking for an exit when things were going poorly under Benitez.

Hah, like hell if Real Madbid wouldn't fork up the 290k/week he is on at United. And if you and AS \ Marca are so certain that he would prefer to join Real Madrid, why wouldn't he be willing to accept 250k/week or something like that to get his "dream" move?

You got outmuscled financially, pure and simple. Too bad that the Spanish government is skint or else you could have hustled some more from them.

This.

I'll admit I haven't seen a whole lot of Drogba since we sold him, but having watched all of these highlight reels I just can't fathom why he was used in a defensive role in the Euro's. Yes, they made it to the finale, so they did something right, but the player in the youtube videos should be given a free role to do whatever the feck he wants. Preferably just replace Rooney.

I hope Mourinho knows what he is doing.

Or even last year for that matter.

After Barca had won the treble even. They tried to lowball us for De Gea too.

I think a lot of people are simply mental slaves to the image of Madrid that Perez has created.

To be fair they did buy the Spanish Welbeck and look set to add Sissoko to the team

How the hell did Drogba get into the Euros? That cheeky cnut!

Lol in all seriousness, Deschamps got won over by Dimitri and Griezeman. Payet never really played well for the rest of the tournament but Griezeman improved with each game.

We've not bought Drogba.

Gimp.

Racist.

It was a fecking disgrace.

Watching that Zidane/Pogba video again, wtf was Deschamps thinking playing Pogba in front of the back four Makelele style (especially when they had Kante on the bench)? To accommodate Giroud?
Not only that, Deschamps decided to play Giroud and when it didn't work, he opted for the same type of player, only slower, in Gignac. When he had a completely different profile(to borrow from Mou) of a striker in Martial, against tiring defenses. I can't believe he has managed to keep his job. I don't see him taking this France golden generation anywhere in WC 2018. It's not at the same level but it's somewhat reminiscent of how Hogson kept his job after so many mind boggling decisions at WC 2014.

ESPN's Alex shaw reckons Pogba is using United as a stepping stone lol
Stepping stone to where? Madrid or Barcelona would need to pay at least 150 million pounds to get him. And if he improves to the player we believe he's destined for, that would further increase his value. I think he's been priced out of another move circa Rooney in his prime. And he will be content to say in Manchester as long as we are winning meaningful trophies.

This is what I think as well. If he is a disaster for us, the other big clubs won't want him. If he is a hit, we've paid so much for him that any bid would have to go way beyond what we paid, which doesn't seem very likely at the moment. But you never know.

Our defence was good because we had 11 men behind the ball.

We didn't have 11 men behind the ball at all, absolute bollocks. We camped in the oppositions half against teams who had 11 men behind the ball themselves. We then proceeded to pass sideways and backwards with too few risks taken. There's a big difference between that and "11 men behind the ball".

@MDFC Manager

What I like about the video, I noticed it yesterday while re-watching it, at the 19:54 mark it starts to show Pogba's defending, his tracking back and winning the ball. What really interested me was that when he won the ball, most of the time he would start an attack within a second. It's something the club has been missing for a while now. When we win the ball, it usually goes backwards, or forward then backwards. In the video, it's almost always going forward very quickly. Very nice to see and I hope that mentality can be picked up by the other midfielders.

p.s. That GAEBBA person is pretty talented. I see he made videos of Guillermo Varela, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Marcus Rashford too.

Yup, he has his passing options sorted well before he receives or wins the ball. Important skills those, and combined with his passing ability, he could easily mould himself into a controlling midfielder later on. I truly love the weight of his passes.

For now though, no need to bind or restrict him. Just set him free

THIS !!!!!!!!!!

Some people are utterly brainwashed with this idea that Madrid have some sort of limitless financial resources when that's far far away from the truth. Heck it should have been a flag to people when the government had to keep helping Madrid finance some of their assets. They simply aren't what most people believe them to be and are actually far restricted in their financial pull than what's made to be believed.

The past 2 window they failed to acquire players they wanted primarily because they didn't have money to easily splash around. They had to be cautious which is why they spent the entire window trying to low ball DDG's price and refused to simply paid the asking price. They failed in their bid with Pogba because they couldn't cough the necessary cash needed to get him, yet some people still believe Madrid have these unlimited funds or something

Agree with this. We didn't have eleven men behind the ball, but our transitions from defence were so slow that the opposition very rarely got caught out but at the same time we didn't leave any gaps due to our players being in a good position due to the slow transitions. Basically. Risk free football. (Although we ended up risking our top 4 chances and lost out)

So wrong mate. Van Gaal may have bored us to death, but that's not because he setup defensively.

Ironically, you may see such a setup played by Mourinho, on occasions this season.

Wait, what? Isn't that the point of a buy out clause, that the club is contractually bound to accept the offer?

Yes if you have a buy-out clause in a players contract.

What i mean is if you do not have a buy out clause as United never do then you always have complete control and can theoretically refuse any offer you receive for a player if you want to.

Don't worry lads, by this time we will be right up there with the big boys. Real I expect will be on the wane. Actually, maybe more reason for them to purchase a marquee player like Pogba :nervous:

He signed a 5 year contract, if he doesn't look to renew in 3 years he'll be 26 and we'll have to look in to selling him rather than letting him go on a free again. I fully expect him to be at Real or Barca within the next 5-6 years.

Definitely, I think that may have been behind Mourinho words about him being here for a decade and beyond, he could easily turn into a world class controlling mid in his mid thirties when he's no longer as explosive. He's played with Pirlo and also saw Scholes's transition from #8 to #6 so there no lack of examples. For now though, we let him fly! (Looks like I also need to unVangalized)
