Is that he only completed 2 of these games.

If he's getting tired playing this amount of games while not even completing most of them while missing most of the season actually, well it's going to be a problem come next season.

I think some of you guys have no idea how fitness conditioning works. He didn't play for 9 months, had to recover from surgery, had 3 months at home with basic light work at most and would of had his first actually intensive fitness work first week back with absolutely no recovery period because he plays every game.

If you don't understand him being tired then you probably need to do some sort of research on conditioning. It's not as simple as him doing little sprints or goingg for a run to up your fitness. Your body needs to pushed then allowed to recover then pushed and allowed to recover. Pogba has had absolutely no recovery time before being pushed. I wouldnt be surprised if he pulls a muscle soon with the load on his body.

Not playing for 9 months actually mean he has to play more minutes now to regain his fitness and match sharpness not the opposite. I'm not sure players gain fitness by not playing.

Beside we kept him on the bench for the first game and didn't let him finish a single game 90 minutes up till the last 2 games.

That's not how it works. He would not be doing any intense fitness work while injured(no player does) . Again clearly you don't know what you talking about so I'll leave it.

Also you build match sharpness by playing but if you are too tired your not going to get sharper because your mind and body has no time to recover and refocus. So you'll actually get less sharp if you are over played.

So you're implying that you know about fitness more than our fitness coaches themselves who programmed his fitness training and told our manager if he's eligible to play and for how much till he got the green light to play him 90 minutes ?

How were we supposed to do more to not let him "get too tired", when we didn't even let him continue the majority of the matches since his return ?

I guess if we had kept him on the match for some games then put on such performance you would have said he's not playing much so won't be able to regain match fitness ?

You're the one trying too hard. It's like a player can't have a bad day. There must be an excuse for every day off. Easy now.

Nobody could have foreseen Pogba fannying around on the edge of our box, and so early into a must win game as well, give him a 5 year contract on any terms he wants I say, we'd be bonkers not to ....

Let him leave and then let's use Fred and McTominany instead of him. That'll be a surefire way to get back to the top.

A 5 year contract for Pogba sounds great to me

Wait so your saying that no one in sports management take risks? In professional sport you don't think anyone takes risks on players fitness, health etc?

Do you know that for example most professional footballers are playing with some sort of injury but use injections to reduce swelling and pain for the short period of time.

Just because we get a player on the pitch doesn't mean its best for the health or recovery alot of the time in professional sports you get the player on the pitch if needed sometimes to the long term damage of said player.

As I said you have no idea what your talking about when it comes to fitness or conditioning that much is very clear. All you need to know is its not surprising for pogba to be very tired based on his injuries and the quick succession of matches.

How many posts are you going to make to convince yourself of this? Enough to bore everyone else into submission I guess.

Not sure fitness coaches in any club will let a player play when not fully ready or still lacks fitness to play a full match just because he wants it. By this you are saying their opinion is pointless.

Just stop trying to say you are a fitness expert and everything will be alright. We managed his return from the injury well.

I actually didn't do anything fancy, he touched the ball once to push it forward and start a new play, he was just caught by a faster player that came from behind. It's a mistake that cost a goal for sure but i don't see anything outrageous here. Good luck with fred and mctominay, guess you like having free tuesday and wednesday evenings.

The best way I can sum him up is that I always tell people that he’s one of the best in the world yet in the back of my mind there’s this nagging feeling that he’s not.

@mancan92 to be fair even if he was very tired, I don't think it's the main reason he struggled. To me it looks like our midfield was overrun, and that all.

Southampton pressed us such that we had a lot of trouble building up, and Pogba was the player most targeted. No doubt we've played a lot of games, but this one looked more like a setup issue to me than fatigue.

You know I was being sarcastic.

If Pogba leaves, you need to bring in another midfielder with similar quality. Not rely on Fred/McTominay to slot in.

To be honest as somebody famed pre RedCafe for their sarcasm, and in the last week pulled for it by the Mods I haven't got a clue what sarcasm is any more, or how to read when somebody is being sarcastic on the boards.

It's either Fernandes or Pogba if we play in the current system, and i'd favour Fernandes because if he knows he's not at his best on any given day he still works his tripe off for the team, whereas Paul is more a well if I can hit a booming 70 yard diagonal to feet(for the cameras) i'm still contributing. Two great players but only one of them a team-player, and as it's a team-game ....

You're really suggesting that Pogba plays more for the cameras than the team?

Bet he won't say the same about Scholes. How dare Pogba play long passes and think for one moment we would not see it for what it is, to show off.

Just irrational stuff.

In that position, which it's been obvious for years he's not suited to, you don't fannying around, more so against a team who he/we knew before the game would high-press relentlessly, it was a schoolboy error, and he keeps doing it, he did it in the last match and he'll keep doing it until he gets moved further forward, or benched, then sold.

Mate this is just all wrong. Muscles strengthen by being broken down and then allowed to recover. They don't strengthen by being broken down and then repeatedly broken down without any recovery period. Infact what happens is they get weaker to the point where a full muscle tear occurs. You're implying for pogba to gain fitness he should play all the time and not recover. With what i said in mind above, that is a sure fire way of getting a long term injury.

The sports scientist team are taking a risk with Pogba, why? Because he is crucial for our chances of getting in the top 4. Pogba knows that, the sports scientists know that, ole knows that but its a risk that we have to take.

Obviously your retort to me will be the same as your retort to the other person you will say what do i know compared to the fitness coaches and sports scientist. To that i reply i have 10 years experience of training and 6 of those years studying physiology at university however what i'm saying is nothing technical and out the ordinary. Any person will understand that within the first 6 months of training themselves guarenteed

The agenda against Pogba is crazy. Fact is he has been brilliant before this match and with the amount of games we’ve had in quick succession, attention spans & without a doubt fitness levels start to slip.

Today our side looked tired. Pogba more than most. Saints obvs had the advantage and it showed.

This guy can play 10 awesome games and one poor and all of a sudden it’s the end of the world. Scholes used to do the odd mistake too btw and nobody suggested selling the guy.

We would be crazy to sell Pogba in his prime years if he wants to stay. The agenda just never stops. The problem is some of the top red clowns not him.

Who do you think is better than him in his position in the world? I'd wager you'll find a hard time naming 2 sets of fingers worth of players. If you can name them then ill be impressed

Go on then, what does it say?
It says that you can't tell which of our players played well the past 2 seasons. If you consider this season alone, Pogba's only problem has been staying fit. There's a reason why Ole prefers Pogba over McTominay and Fred. It's quite obvious really. You're just blinkered by your hatred of him. The first bad performance (it was awful awareness for the goal) since the break and you jump all over him. Meanwhile, Fred and McTominay haven't been at the races in the 3 times they've been on the pitch (Spurs, Norwich, Southampton).

Funny, how 1 bad performance outweighs their 3 bad performances. It's Pogba that needs to go. Not them. Actually that's unfair on Scott and Fred too. The whole subject of wanting a player gone was brought up by you based on this 1 bad performance for no reason. You can't just leave it at "Pogba had a bad performance, here's why, hopefully he improves." It's straight to talk of transfer with him and not the other worse players.

There's a difference between thinking he was awful in this match, and then jumping to he's a showboat, needs to get sold, etc... People are free to criticize Pogba, as I did in this post. But to rewrite history and saying he should be sold just shows you just plain don't like him and cause drama for the sake of it.

Wot, where have I said he should be sold?

I was just waiting for this to see the wolves come out to feed, it’s too bad Martial didn’t have a bad game as well or we could have had the 2 for 1 special.

He had a great match again, but it has to be said.

He is irresponsable by trying to beat his man in our freaking third of the field, it cost us a goal today and it nearly did last match. He needs to play safe there, not much to gain and a hell lot to lose in that area.

fecking hell this thread is grim.

He made a mistake in not being aware 360 degrees before trying to turn the ball. So many players had shit games today but as usual its Pogba getting crucified.

It was his ball in to Martial that got us the equaliser ffs.

He had a bad game today and that's about it. Consider how long hes been out and how he has played since the restart you fickle people.

Seriously? Don't think anybody in a Red shirt had a great game last night.

To be fair to Pogba, we didn't have much of a midfield today besides him.

Just look at this image, this is how we played for most of the match!

Southampton caught out our setup with their press.
