the inept performances of the team you mean? Pogba has been bad whenever the team was bad. The days when Sanchez, Martial, Lukaku, Rashford, Valencia, Young, Matic, Jones etc were all poor. Because I never seen Pogba play bad and other players play good. It's either everyone bad including Pogba or everyone good including Pogba and Pogba the best player mostly. This points to a team issue. I'd like to wait for a different manager to see better performances as a team and then we can judge some players.
No I mean Pogba.
It's useless making excuses for him because others were poor. Players like Lukaku, Bailly, Lindelof etc don't get excuses so neither should Pogba.
The fact is whenever the chips are down he almost never raises his own game to get the team playing well, hence him being fair weather.

With his style of play, some people will never like him. I think you have to be utterly blind not to see that he’s our best outfield player, and by a distance.

The same people saying he’s overrated or not that good, were probably screaming for Milinkovic-Savic last season.

You mean aside from the last two games, for example, where he’s been the best player while losing and a major contributor to the team turning it around?

No, if anything to me they're a prime example of how bad he can be when the team isn't playing well.
Do you really think he was the best player when we were losing against Newcastle and Cheslea? I honestly couldn't disagree more.

This would make sense if there aren't more instances of him being unable to raise his game when everyone else is down, than otherwise. He does something twice recently, compared to more past instances of him not doing it, yeah that's definitely a trend.

Apparently when the chips are down he never raises his game. Like when the chips were down last week and today, he didn’t raise his game.

Football is a team game. The performance of the team is the most important. When we don't play as a team nobody will look good. Even the best player in the world Messi struggles when Argentina doesn't play as a team. When the chips were down for them in the WC are you going to blame him for not getting them playing well? There's no such thing as fair weather. You play as a team your best players will come to the fore. You make it sound like its just flicking a switch. Surely you can see the way we played in the 1st half was not as a team and when we did in the 2nd half a lot of players suddenly looked more confident and dangerous?

The most infuriating thing from that still above is our massive lump of a striker marking nobody and stood at the front post like the fanny he is.

I guess, both? As I said he is a good footballer but a bad midfielder, maybe if he got played where Mata did it wouldn't be quite as bad but I'm not sure he can play that role either.
So you are saying he is just not good enough. Good enough for what actually?

Why is that?
Because essentially you listed off far inferior players who played in superior teams to back up your argument that a team couldn’t win the league with Pogba in midfield. For example of course we would have won the league with him in midfield instead of Cleverley.

I don't know, you look at the corner out of context and he's lost his man. But clearly there was context with Lindelof. With Pogba everything negative is so massively focussed on. I saw Young let Luiz run for their equaliser and thought wow Pogba gets slated if he does that. Also Chelsea had a free kick second half where Luiz got free from someone but it wasn't Pogba so it wasn't mentioned.

Does anyone think those two situations wouldn't have been highlighted if it was Pogba ?

Other than their goal he had an excellent game.

Quiet in the first half and a big individual error for the first goal.

Much better in the second, had more far influence on the game, and showed flashes of world class quality.

Wish he could put it together for 90 minutes most weekends. If he did, we’d have the best midfielder in the world on our hands.

Thought it was quite notable when he let his man go for the goal that the entire team turned their back on his tanty and walked away from him. I wonder if this team is really on board with him 100%, food for thought for sure.
Played well in that stretch in the second half but you've got to be thinking of giving him an absolute tinning if he just wants to play when he feels like he needs to. Doing the fans a massive disservice with these incomplete performances.
(Somebody above saying "when the shackles are off" fecks sake, what shackles? He's at United. He could take a dump on the pitch and the fans still make excuses to love him.)

We were seconds away from erasing any of it though, we'll have to just move on from this one and continue to build. Needs to pull the finger out and learn from these schoolboy mistakes and take some responsibility for the dropped points. I suspect he will have a good think about it.

He was screening the front post like a player does for every corner ever.

What was he thinking following instructions? The imbecile.

Pogba was fantastic again in the second half. He absolutely bossed the game from the deeper position and was pivotal in the team turning things around. He made a mistake for the goal but was furious with himself so it doesn't bother me at all.

I think Jose missed a trick when Herrera came on though. He should have dropped Herrera in next to Matic and pushed Pogba forward. It would have solidified the middle and given United another dimension on the counter attack.

Put Pogba in Herrera's position for the chance Kepa saved and Herrera defending Rudiger at the end and the game could have ended very differently.

I really hope Pogba can keep this form up and keep his mouth shut in the media.

His best position is the one he played today. Alongside Matic in a 4-2-3-1

Maturing.

Mistake from misreading situation and miscommunication with Lindelof who is already tight on his own man. At least Pogba is pissed off with his own mistake afterwards and tried to raise his game. Tough first half.

Not bad, a very good second half.

No coincidence that the team only plays well when he does, he's the heart of this time. I don't know what we should do but if we can get him playing well for 90 minutes every week then we're more than capable of beating anyone. That being said I do think he's had a good start to the season, one of our best players barring a horror show or two. He's got so much quality.

Weirdly enough I think he's become more of a leader since he lost the armband, maybe freeing himself from the mental shackles helped somewhat, he's not always the most vocal but does tend to lead by example when he has the chance. Shit mistake for the goal but it happens.
Mou should free Pogba or defensive duties. He will be repaid double in chances for the strikers

We have a player in our hands whose higher level is above Modric but lower level as low as Anderson. Struggle to think of any other CM player like him

I still say it again. Without Pogba, our team would be in a far worse position. When he turns it on, there are very few in the world, that have his athleticism, skillset and sheer drive in midfield. He was my Man of the Match yesterday and I hope he puts on a similar display when he welcomes his old team back midweek.

Agree, especially the second half.

Kind of reflects this Man Utd team doesn't it. Martial you could say the same about too....

He should be marking someone he's huge!

He's dreadful defensively at set pieces. Do you remember the City game at OT? Belgium don't even bring him back for corners.

"Stand at the near post and head it if it's in your vicinity" is about as much defensive responsibility I want Lukaku to have.

He aint too cracking at attacking either, best place for him is sat next to Jose riding the pine.

Made a mug of Jorginho a few times in the second half, which was nice given the fawning over the Italian by the commentators and the fact we were pinned back for the first half chasing shadows.

Still some improvements to be made but we're never gonna see the best of him while we're instructed to contain the opposition. When we go after teams he's great.

That is exactly where you should. He saved us recently by sticking to the post during a corner kick and would have been useful there for the Rudiger goal

It is common practice to put one your best headers at the front post not marking anybody but defending that crucial area. You have obviously never played football. Doesn’t excuse Pogba leaving his man free in the box.

He was the best player on the pitch alongside hazard. His talent is clear to see.

You can tell in the first half Mourinho told us to play cautiously, he held his station and didn’t push on too much.

2nd half though he was unleashed and transformed the performance. Once he’s purring the whole team visibly gain confidence and start playing.

Yes he messed up with his marking and needs to concentrate better in those situations, but he more than made up for it after.

Not sure I follow. He was on the near post. Rudiger scored at the far post.

It is not that difficult to see that he is our one and only player who can play under pressure and take the ball forward.

Pogba is the one that is holding Pogba back from taking it to the next level. Tactics, positions, players, etc. It doesnt matter, cos its upto Pogba to concentrate and play like he can.

Funnily enough, when he keeps it simple, hes one of the best at doing so. Hes effective. Need that more consistently from him.

Pogba made a mistake that led to our first goal. And played very well after that. One of our best players yesterday. Players make mistakes all the time. Pogba does and it’s the end of the world.

I've played more football than you've had hot dinners sunshine.
