This is something I've been thinking. People are calling Pogba out for his performance, when Messi, potentially the greatest player of all time, played worse in the same match. I watched all of our players individual highlights videos after, he was good.

Ah here, come on!

People are critical over Pogba's overall contribution, his form and his commitment since he returned in 2016.
Are we really going down that route of comparing him to Messi?

OK then.

Messi this season has something like 43 goals and 20 odd assists. I think he can get by in a game where he has a night off and his team still wins, I mean after all, he's only the best player in the world who has won Barcelona everything and has given their fans and supporters and indeed football fans, all around the world, such enjoyment.

Pogba on the other hand...

FFS, people on here saying we shouldn't expect goals and assists from Pogba every game and then go on to compare him to Messi's performance in a match...Jesus Christ

:D
Not really, just can't take it seriously when that's mentioned.

Having said that, I do remember that period of that season and I really enjoyed him then. Not so much since.

The excuses are sickening tbh. I've never known anyone, among a majority on here, get such a free ride for, what essentially are, underwhelming performances.

There's nothing underwhelming as the stats proved he is a better player now than he was before we signed him. How do you answer this? You even went as far to say he's not a United standard midfielder or something which proved your agenda. We got the player we bought and he improved.
For this season alone:

"Manchester United right now is firmly a Paul Pogba-led team in attack. No player in the league is both the most frequent passer and the most frequent possession-ender in a team apart from him."
.
To act like people are claiming he isn't without faults because they said he performed well is quite baffling.

Pogba has 14 goals and 11 assists, from midfield. He's having a good season. As I said in my original post, Messi is one of the greatest of all time, and he didn't get a sniff (other than his cross) and played worse than Pogba.

Whether or not people have questioned him for the last 3 years is irrelevant, he played well.

Edit: if you come up with a better argument than "OMG now you're comparing him to Messi!!", please, let me know.

Sir Alex ship him out to Juventus. Bravo to Sir Alex.
Then summer 2016, United resign him back. Keep in mind, Mourinho did say he did not want to sign Pogba in summer 2016, it was Man United club decision (commercial reason or whatever). I trust Mourinho when he said he did not want to sign Pogba, given Mourinho mouth, who always speak straight out as it is.

Ship him out please. Sir Alex ship him out in the past, Ole, just do it. Get the money and buy someone else who actually want to play for United.

First off, Sir Alex didn't ship him out. Read his biography. Pogba was offered the biggest contract for a youth player in United's history at the time to keep him at the club, SAF clashed as he often did at this time with Pogba's agent, Raiola. It's all in his autobiography.

As for Jose, Jose wanted him. He stated as much time and time again when he was signed and praised him continually. Jose has fallen out with players at all of his last 3 clubs and turned each club completely toxic. Feck Jose!

Stop changing the narrative!!

I asked you if Scholes was constantly putting in 5/10 and 6/10 performances, during his career here, what would people's impressions of him be?

1 goal and 2 assists in his last 11 games... That is an absolute joke! There is no excuse for that!

And before someone chimes in with the whole, "You're such a hater, you hater" ask why I'm spending my time in this thread and not in with the other threads, talking about the rest of the slobs?

Last 11 games? That goes back to our 2-0 loss at home to PSG.
Since that game only Lukaku (6) has still been involved in more goals than Pogba & Shaw (both on 3) (goals / assists).

We've been in a massive slump of form, the whole team. Not just Pogba. Course you'll bring up his price and use that as an indicator that he should be doing this consistently, but all players have dips in form. Fact is this and yes it is indeed a fact... Pogba has been involved in 20 league goals this season, as a team we've scored 61 goals. Every 3rd goal has involved Pogba.

No other player in our team is more worthy of praise for us being in 6th and I'm not saying we should be happy being 6th but if not for him and his end product I dread to think where we would be.

And don't bother saying De Gea, he's been well off his usual standards and has cost us quite a few games this season.

:D

That's absolute nonsense, no other player receives more abuse than Pogba. Only other player in recent years that has had a rougher time is Fellaini.

Win, lose or draw I've had so called supporters immediately go here or onto other forums and still blame Pogba and find fault. When he missed a penalty earlier this season but scored the rebound and we won the game I spent that evening sifting through comment after comment about his run up and missing it first time. There was literally zero focus on the fact his penalty won us the game.

There is a huge media driven agenda against the lad from the day he showed up to the club and folks like you completely buy into it.

Jonathan Wilson nailed his flaws in the Second Captain podcast yesterday.

Someone who lacks the instinctive positional sense to play in a deep position and the deftness you need to play just behind the strikers. So every time you watch him you end up thinking if he might be better off playing in a different area of the pitch to the one he's playing in. No matter where he plays. Obviously, he's very skilful and a terrific athlete so will bully plenty of weak teams but will always be found out in our tougher fixtures, when you need your best players to make the difference.
He really is Steven Gerrard 2.0. I just wish he was as positionally flexible as Gerrard was for Liverpool.

Wipe your mouth, you're talking shite

1. I never even used his price tag in any way, shape or form! Never mentioned it!

2. So now the reason he has been underwhelming is because the media have it in for him?

feck right off! Absolute bollocks!

My arguement is, for a man of such ability and talent, he has been very underwhelming since he came back. I could easily go to the Lingard thread or Matic thread and vent my thoughts there but, fact is they're shite and I don't care about them. Pogba is different! He can be great but, something is stopping him! Be it his mentality or whatever and it kills me!!

All the excuses for him, that have been thrown at me, is utter rubbish. Not one of you have said, "Yano, maybe he is at fault here"
Nooooooooo! It will be Mourinho's fault because he misses a penalty for Madrid or Solskjaer's fault because the painting in his got damaged...

I am not even critical of his performance the other night. I've said twice I don't have an opinion either way on it. I'm talking about his overall time here and the excuses are bollocks! No other player would get away with it.

For a someone of his class and ability, he has been very underwhelming! Anyone who argues against that, they're either 12 or on a wum

I know I come across as having an agenda and disrespectful to the poster.. That is not my intention and I apologise if I do. I'm just very passionate and hate when I think a player is taking the piss. Especially someone of his ability

Pogba was very good versus Barca as Ole said. He even credited him over McTominay and Fred.

He just suffers from the if we lose it is his fault. Will be very sad but funny when he gets driven out of the club by our fans hating him and then they moan about our lack of quality.

But alas there minds made up even though without him we are ten times worse than we already are .

His out ball verusv Barca was very good and he never really lost it. Barca couldn't get near our 3 and how he even got any criticism is a disgrace.

I saw people citing lack of effort again but he ran more than he ever had in a United shirt. Makes your bias really show that.

1. I just meant if you were going to use that argument. It's not really one worth making in fairness.
2. I never said that was the reason did I? I simply said he gets a bad time of it from the media, unfairly in many instances. His name is continually in the sports pages and the majority of it is completely unwarranted. I gave the example of the missed penalty and folks preferred to focus on his run up or the original missed attempt than the fact he actually scored it anyway, just to complain for complaining sake. Or maybe its blue hair that he dyed cause his country made the World Cup and folks turned it into him wanting to go to City? There are countless examples of this kind of crap being used the last few years.

There's only so much a single player can do with average players all around him, perfect example is Messi. He hasn't been able to drag a largely average Argentina side to World Cup success, has he? Best he's managed is one runner up place. For many Pogba is supposed to be our match winner, akin to the way Messi is for his teams. I'm not saying Pogba is anywhere near as good as Messi so I don't expect the same level or returns from him. So why should anyone else?

He is of course responsible as well on occasion no doubt about it, he's had his bad games as has everyone. You win as a team and lose as a team, as good as say McTominay was the other night, still couldn't win us the game could he?

Ferguson said something years ago along the lines of a team needing at least 5-6 of its players to be absolutely with it and raring to go to win most games. How often do we have that from game to game? We rarely if ever can say we had multiple players all worthy of MOTM performances. Almost every single game there is a singular stand out player and a couple of OK performances and the rest are invisible. Pogba has been a mix of all those, same as the rest of our players, we've a top 4 team and we'll get mixed results / performances until its all addressed otherwise.

Man Utd 2:1 West Ham
Excellent today. A real leaders performance.

Needs to stop showing off by trying to hold off players and completely stopping the game in the center of the match. Ruins the tempo and he loses out half the time anyway, losing the ball in a very dangerous position.

Was one of the worst culprits of being sloppy in possession. Having said that he put in a shift off the ball which we don't see every game and was always willing to get on the ball. Done well for the penalties obv.

Thought he was excellent, composed and disciplined in a deeper role from the get go.

Only him and Fred played well. Dude even dropped between the CB's and stuff

Much better today then last month or two, great 2 pens under pressure but still has got back in to this terrible dwelling on the ball, too many touches or thinking he can roll everyone over. But positives from him hope he can keep on the upward trend to the end of season

He can't be our only creative player on the pitch.

He even made the best cross of the match today.

We won't be a quality side until the day Pogba is our 3rd most creative player of the first team.

He's absolutely slated if he has a poor performance, so it's only fair he's praised for a good one. Alongside Fred controlled the middle well, wasn't perfect obviously but very good, made the game-winning pass and scored two killer penalties. Quite a good game from him.

I thought he was poor today. Gave the ball away so many times and was often in the wrong position and couldn't stop the west Ham midfielders enough.

Good that he scored both penalties though. Although the rest of his game was not as good as it has been.

We won so I know people will be much more positive after wins, but overall we lost the midfield against them. They had more chances and possesion as well and we got lucky with the win really.

Pogba was a big part of the problem even if the team overall did play poorly. There seem to be very poor chemistry between Pogba and the other players. He somtimes can spot Rashfords runs, but there is nothing between him and Lingard, Martial and Lukaku really.

Bang average performance, penalties aside. So bored of watching him slow everything down, time and time again. Non existent defensively too. As usual.

My stream wasn't the greatest, but I saw him being quite proactive defensively. Won a few tackles and in particular 1 excellent interception and clearance, running halfway down the pitch for it and then shepherding it out.

What's new ? Best player in the team by a mile.

That pass through Rashford to Martial was one of the few things that separates Manchester United from an average level looking team.

Also, there was one point where Lingard was waiting for the ball to come down from the sky, and Pogba just moved him over and took charge knowing Jesse wouldn't do anything.

I thought he was brill.

He was on his own at times, but I thought he performed better than the last games. Perfect time to hit top form and I wish his haters would give him a break, he’s our best player by a country mile.
