Yep, he did have a (positive) impact and yes, you're being hugely hyperbolic. And no, he's not even remotely a problem for the coach or he wouldn't be wanted by every manager (including this one) and have league and world cup titles to his name. Seems we're not gonna get remotely close to agreeing on Pogba, so let's leave it at that. Our views are entirely antithetical.

My last word in this little debate. The fact that you thought he played well on Sunday indicates delusion. The Caf average rating (not scientific but usually a decent barometer) was 5, about right.

The lad had a couple of average games after being incredible for two months and the cremlings are out in full force. Nice.

The point is this will keep repeating in the future as he is very very average at midfield basics and it gets highlighted time and time again when the opponent midfield know their stuff and keep winning most of second balls and are positionally brilliant. He was and still is the cherry on top of the cake but not the actual cake who will provide the platform for midfield dominance crucial to play attacking football on front foot specially in high profile games which is where he goes missing almost 70% of those type of games as he is asked to play as a left sided cm with restrictions in those games.

It would be incredibly naive to be solely dependent on him through out the campaign next season and I think adding another mobile mid controller and a playmaker to the mid unit is a must alongside pogba so that we don't have to play him as a cm specially in high profile games where he gets exposed.

The world cup attitude and maturity will only be seen in flashes here who so ever is in charge

The core of your point which is, if I am right, that Pogba is not exactly the midfield general you rely entirely upon, is one I agree with. I have also stated this a few times in this forum. Pogba thrives with the right personnel around him and by personnel, I mean real leaders. His time at Juventus attests to this. He seems to me like a free spirited guy who is first and foremost about fun. Once you give him that freedom, his talent blooms and he revels in that.

I think we need to differentiate between average and shite. He did his job. Created some good moments and chances but overall, as is normal for most players in big games, chances to create were restricted and so he had less moments.

Why do you keep talking about the type of player he isn't ? He isn't that player. It's like wondering why Roy Keane didn't score 15 and assist 20 goals a season.

If you find me a player who scores and assists 35 goals a season AND controls the game at the same time.....you'll be naming me two players, not one.

I've seen you mention this a few times now. It's not a case of not fancying it, and more to do with it not being his job. It's a akin to criticizing Matic for not getting into the box more often. A huge aspect of Matic's job is to assist the back 4 in playing out from the back and he is failing in doing so at the moment. We shouldn't need our most attacking midfielder dropping deep to collect the ball when we have someone already employed to do that, particularly when it will leave a gaping hole between our attacking and midfield.
This is complete nonsense and a simplistic view. I’m not calling for pogba to Always drop back and help bring the ball out from the back but only sometimes when for instance matic is being marked out the game. When we are being pressed from the back my issue with pogba is his negligence in sticking out wide and not being available for a simple pass which might sometimes relieve the stress. Even when he does receive the ball sometimes he has a problem with simple distribution and holds unto it for so long.

We will never have a healthy discussion about our midfield because you guys will never admit that matic is overworked. I’m simply asking for pogba to do more in the build up phase against the better sides than just stick up top or wander to a position in the field that does feck all when we’re under pressure. Players like Ramsey drop deeper when the arsenal players tasked with bringing the ball out the back are overloaded. Does he have two heads?

Why does criticizing a player always have to be met with a negative reaction? Saying he had a bad game doesn't take away from him having a brilliant season which he is having by the way. Just discussing ways in which he can improve the team even more shouldn't warrant abuse.

With Zidane and Perez preparing a monster of a transfer window coming up, what do you guys think are the chances they might want to go for Pogba?

I think Zidane is definitely a huge fan and if we miss out on CL football, Real might feel that he's get-able. Thoughts?

yea you are right he is overworked and Pogba really needs to do more, but Matic has also not been good enough.

If it happens it happens, won't be cheap though.

Will Madrid want to splash so much on one player?

I think this summer might be too soon.

Summer 2020 he'll be 27 with a year left on his contract. That's when he'll go to Real or Barca I reckon.

They give us Isco, Kroos, Modric and £100m and we'll talk about it. :smirk:

would not cover the hole left by his departure. modric is getting old, and Pogba is Kroos+Isco+more rolled into one. £100M is chump change these days.

some players are just that special, and to me, Pogba is one of them.

Got this sinking feeling that Madrid will be all in for him this summer and he will want the move.
He's been fantastic since Ole took over, and I would hope that he'd want to stay, given all he's said in the last few months. However, he's not irreplaceable, and if he starts agitating for a move, then it'd be very dangerous to allow a poisonous atmosphere to seep in.

Its clear we need to replace Matic with a midlielder that can control our midfield much better. Even then we will still come up against teams that will target said midfielder and will need other members of our squad to provide options for the pass.If you look at a team like city for example, when fernandinho is being man marked there is always another player in midfield that might drop deeper to collect the ball and share his burden. They don't restrict players to certain fixed roles. Everyone helps one another. We shouldn't excuse pogba by saying he is our attacking midfielder and so shouldn't drop back to help from time to time. Its like those caf members that wont criticize lukaku because he scores goals although everything else he did was terrible other than stick the ball at the back of the net. Yes his goals might have won the game 3-2 but his awful touch and pass might have been the reason why they scored. Then what happens when he can't score? We lose and people say he is off limits because he scored in previous games? That line of thought doesn't help identify the problems in our team and how we can improve.

Ah, something I heard from my mom at the end of every school session.

Pogba is no leader, he shouldnt be mentioned for it imo.

Why do you think he's not? Have you seen how popular he is in the French and United squads? Im not saying popularity equals good leadership skills. On top of his popularity you can see that the players listen to him. Pogba is usually the one motivating the players in the tunnel. If managers saw fit to hand Valencia the armband based on experience and seniority alone I don't see why Pogba can't be given the same responsibility. Below are a few examples showing his leadership.

https://www.skysports.com/football/...born-leader-says-france-boss-didier-deschamps

"He's been in the national team since 2013 and he's always thought about the collective. There's this idea that he's a bit individualistic and only thinks about himself but that's not the case at all. I think that's one thing that needs to be said.

"Another is that he arrived at the World Cup really prepared and he took on the mantle of leadership, on and off the pitch. He became a bit of a spokesman for the team and he can do that because he's a good speaker."

Look at this video at 5:46 in the tunnel before the Huddersfield game (3-1 win) this season.

Zidane is a huge Pogba's fan
He praised him a lot in the french media since his debut with Juventus and wanted him in Madrid but Perez blocked the move ( he hates Raiola ).

Now, Zidane is the boss, Fred Hermel ( french journalist but also big friend with Zidane and Perez ) said that Pogba is after Mbappé and Hazard, the player that Zidane wants the most.

Where does he say that? Can't find on Hermel and Pogba.

Incredible? I wouldn’t call his better performances incredible, they were just good decent performances that one would expect from a player costing and earning as much as he does.
He is a showman of the highest order and when things don’t go right for him then he quickly loses all sense of responsibility and just becomes a petulant little fecker.
We really should be looking to offload him and get a in a player who can play for 90 minutes in the vast majority of games without fecking about.
His penalty technique is a prime example of “Look at MEEEEE”.

When has he done that?

He's been brilliant under OGS so far.

Your agenda against him is as clear as day.

Shocking post.

When has he done it? Did you watch Sundays game against Arsenal.
I’ve never liked him and I’m not changing mind now in fact I would gladly drive him to Dover and make him swim back to France if I could.
I don’t care if he won the World Cup, England got to the Semi Final ffs, it means nothing and nothing will change my mind about him. He should never have returned.

Why are you even taking part in a Pogba discussion if you've admitted yourself that there's nothing that will change your mind about him?

That question is rhetorical because I already know the answer. It's because you love nothing more than to write vitriolic comments about him after he's had a subpar game. It's pathetic.

He's currently sitting on 11 goals and 9 assists in PL. Which is better than any other midfielder in Europe.

Jolly good. I’m happy for you.

At least someone has admitted they just don't like him, and have held those beliefs about him before he was bought back from Juventus.

Welldone Melville..

See how Pjanic played yesterday, thats how a midfielder should play.
Agree with whoever said hes a better midfielder.
