Sadly, individual recognition is still too heavily weighted towards team accomplishments. Manchester United will need to be successful, particularly in Europe, for Pogba to get the proper global recognition I think.
Which is something most of us are hoping for. We're capable of mounting a title challenge next season and should do well in the CL. With the right addition we have the team to win major trophies which would lead to individual honors for someone like Pogba especially if he carry his current form.

Now that i think about it, could he be in the conversation this very season if he takes us all the way to CL victory? I certainly feel it would. Though extremely hard to pull off but this is football and Pogba in his current form would do damage to anyone. Already expecting him to boss that weak PSG midfield on Tuesday night.

Right, now it's time to grow up and move on but when you lots were having a field day with petty insults plus name calling at Pogba and the condescension toward those who defended him, it never occurred to you to remind people to grow up.

Point out when I did that. There was just a time where I didn't rate him as a world beater and thought he wasn't worth the fee. I questioned his commitment and professionalism in post match interviews and was less than happy to see loud social media activity during periods of bad form.

But I don't recall any petty insults to him or posters who disagreed with the opinion. I along with some others have happily come out since and accepted to be wrong in the previous judgement of the player and yet we have lazy posters that just want to paint with a broad brush to anyone who doubted Pogba. As I said earlier, move on.

You need to allow posters to actually discuss his performances rather than have brats churning out garbage that's just starting to sound like "ha ha I was right you were wrong" bullshit when it's 11 games into the new managers realm and Pogba's resurgence.

The Fans that were proven right regarding Pogba will move on when they are satisifed. Thats not for others who belittled and abused him to decide.
In the mean time we can all enjoy his resurgence together.

Belittled and abused  Stop saying arbitrary things that make no sense. Its tough to enter this thread and actually enjoy how good he is when you this childish shit going on. "belittled, abused, racist" etc.

Jesus wept.

If we won the CL this season and he maintained his current form he’d certainly be in the conversation. I don’t think there’s been many stand out players across Europe this season, and the best player from the winning team will have a chance. Pogba is also coming off the back of a World Cup win, and is a favourite to win that Nations League business too I’d imagine.

It's funny how circumstances and luck play in this whole ballon d'or business, especially this year. I believe had Pogba remained at Juventus and had a similar season to his last one there where they reached the CL final but lost, then went on to win the WC with France, he'd have won the ballon d'or.

His stocks and hype took a massive dive since coming to United because we weren't challenging for major trophies(and unlike the narrative the media and ship love pushing, Pogba didn't necessarily become a worse player than he was at Juventus, it just happened that most of our failures were being unfairly lay on him when they should have been directed at Mourinho from the beginning).

Had Pogba remained at a functional team like Juventus where he was also the star player(they gave him their iconic number 10 in his last season there) and Juventus reached the final + Pogba winning the WC, he'd have walked that ballon d'or.

Now to do it he'd have to win the CL with us, even PL is not/has never been enough. I'm hoping we explode this second half of the season and just surprise everyone.

People who were the loudest in criticising Pogba were amongst the most avid supporters of Mourinho. Coincidence? I think not.

Pretty much. Even on a smaller scale, this has led to him being underrated in the PL. He hasn’t always been great, for various reasons, but he’s shown he’s a far better player than he’s been called. It’s hard for an individual to get praise in a team that is seen as underachieving. It’s not even about us finishing 5th or 6th. A team expected to finish 12th could finish 5th and their star player is seen as the best in the league. But a club demanded to win the league just will not have their players held in such esteem when they are 6th. The goalkeeper is a different story, as I feel it feeds the narrative to keep pushing how great our keeper is and that he’s the one making it respectable for a terrible side.

Modric’s stock has risen massively due to his team winning the CL 3 times in a row. If Pogba and him had swapped teams for the last 3 years, I can’t see many people thinking Modric was better than Pogba at all.

Makes no sense to you maybe? like I've already said, I don't give a toss about being right or wrong about Pogs, this will only be judged once his career is over here. The stuff I've read is far from childish and more how venomous and abusive fans can be on reflection when simply he weren't playing well but how fickle they are now he is. Yep time to move on but must admit, given the nature of the comments, hard to forget. Maybe for some of us, things are more important than now being able to now enjoy the thread....that said, a few bad games and the vultures with be circling again making comments about his social media, his hair, clothes cars etc...

I've addressed the social media stuff. I'm not going to bother going round in circles with that.

But to suggest all doubters are venomous abusive or racist or whatever, is beyond ridiculous.

On current form he’s probably the best midfielder in the world, and tied with Aguero for the best player in the PL.

As a matter of interest, if you were not performing your best in work, would you deny yourself things you enjoy?

If I were a major sports personality under fire from my performance on all angles, I would be careful of what I choose to post. 100%.

Now, let's move on from the social media bit and agree to disagree? I'd rather just focus on discussing his great performances now that they overshadow everything else.

His numbers for a midfielder is just unreal. It's not just goals and assists, he is creating chances or making some of the passes which just opens up so much space for other players.

We have got superb core team now with Pogba, De Gea, Martial, Rashford and we have few good players like Herrera, Shaw, Lindelof. If we can add some quality, we will be up there challenging for league titles. Just that we should always try to play attacking football, like we are doing now. Even when we are defending, we have 2 players up top waiting to counter attack, which makes counter attacking lot easier.

He's world class. If we can bring in a few more players on his level we'll be a match for anyone

Some simple PL stats

Appearances 83
Goals 22
Assists 22
Woodwork 9
Big chances missed 16
Errors leading to goal 0

Hopefully when he does have few bad games they won't come in a patch straight after each other.
Hopefully there will be a considerable time span between each bad game and they won't start happening until next season :D:devil:

Couldnt agree more....

even more interesting that Pogba has been playing in a pretty dysfunctional team until recently, and even if you take the pens, Pogba is still ahead. Also, KdB has a lot more quality around him.

As good as De Bruyne is. it's interesting to see that Pogba has had the more successful career overall thus far.

What I find interesting about Pogba is this reputation he has as an attention seeker, but he seems a pretty private person for a superstar footballer. You won’t see many pictures off his Mrs about, I didn’t even realise he had one until I heard he was expecting a child. His new born baby is a mystery. He dealt with the death of his father fairly privately. In contrast to players like Rooney,Beckham etc who were always in the papers for off the field things. Their partners and children were exposed in the media too.
I’ve also noticed he hasn’t had a special trim or any colour in his hair for months too. Not that I was ever bothered if he did I do wonder if he wants to be perceived as more focused and mature.

It's racism.

Some people and some media want to knock down successful young black men.

The entire french side simplified their hair for the world cup. I guess he saw how well that worked out and has decided to continue with it.

It's an interesting point actually. Although the whole wag culture seems to have peaked with Beckham and then Rooney's era. Maybe Coleen looked for it too. And we know the Beckhams did. Then again, I don't look at the kind of places the stories and pics would be shared, so I dunno, maybe it's still happening.

If I was PSG Pogba would be the one I would closely mark.If you cut down Pogbas' influence then other creative figures like Martial and Rashford would be less of a threat, especially the later with his off-ball movement and Pogba's effective range of passing.

So ,it'll be interesting to see how PSG handle Pogba tonight and how Pogba himself deals with being possibly tightly marked.

I agree, the thing is though, if (IF!) Pogba plays at his absolute world class best as he has since Ole arrived, there is actually nothing that opponents can do to stop him. It sounds like a cliche but his ability mixed with his beastly physicality mean he can hurt you in so many ways. Lets be honest, he is going to need to bring his A game tonight because we still heavily rely on his creativity.

Don't think that's completely fair.

Pogba has had some stinkers for United since he arrived, particularly in big games, regardless of Mourinho.

Think PSG will be very respectful of Pogbas' capabilites and will obviously know the threat he causes.

If he is marked successfully tonight and his influence in the game isn't as great as it should be then ,overall,I wont be too harsh on Pogba.
It will merely illustrate how dependant we are on him and how we have to lesson that burden on him in the summer.

It’s an appearance-stat comparison starting from last season, with De Bruyne having 2 less than Pogba.

Fair enough, but a truer observation would be stats on a per minutes basis.

I think they were neck to neck last season stats wise, however De Bruyne's performances were a tier above Pogba's. Pogba's productivity has gone up a bit but I've been way more impressed by his performances on the pitch recently, which for me is the ultimate test when comparing 2 players.

Yeh that is fair enough, I certainly wasn't using it as an excuse to get the knives out. If PSG overcommit on Pogba then that should in theory create more opportunities for our attacking players. I just that even if he is well marked, he is capable of producing at least a few moments and I don't think that should ever be prevented fully.
