Not his biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination, but he's probably put in the most minutes for us out of all our squad, and we've played the most games from a Premier League side to this point.
I feel like he could use a rest, especially with a short summer break due to the Euro's, sadly Mourinho isn't noted for rotating.
I don't buy the 'he needs a rest' argument. He was just as ineffective earlier in the season and was a virtual passenger for France in the Euros. He one of the most frustrating players I've ever seen, he has all the talent in the world but doesn't apply it in the right way.

I don't get why so many people are getting annoyed at Mourinho's comments on Pogba. What's he supposed to do, throw him under a bus to satisfy the media?

There's a fair bit of middle ground between throwing him under the bus vs saying that he was the best player on the pitch, or a giant.

I'd bite someone like PSG's hand off this Summer if they offered something like £60-70 Million for him.

No need to throw him under the bus but he could just swerve the questions by stating he won't talk about individual players as it is a team game after all.

Don't really dispute any of that, just think in the last few weeks, he's looked less energetic than in the first half of the season, couldn't really hurt at this stage to give him a game off and see if it helps.

Classic FM approach.
I'll take your word for it I've never played it. It's clearly better to come out with complete horseshit about how well he is doing and blow smoke up his arse. You have to mollycoddle the dabbing diva

That's true there is certainly nothing to be lost by taking him out of the firing line for a few games.

well..because quite obviously he is not doing the same in Pogba's case as he did in the cases of other players. So why is he so selective? My imho this is becasue he is protecting not Pogba really (too obviously the guy is underperforming) but his own obstinacy and choice of the leaders

We don't have anyone to rotate him with, especially not with Herrera suspended.

I think the treatment he is getting is disgusting.

If he was English, you wouldn't hear a fecking peep.

Really? The likes of Raheem Sterling would be surprised to learn of this enormous goodwill being English buys you.

Why do you think is that?

So many of the posts in this thread will look stupid in a few years time. Looks like people have'nt learnt anything from De Gea.

"You can prove anything with facts"

Kroos and Thiago come out of that looking the best. Thiago possibly moreso, as Kroos gets a fair whack of assists from his great corners and Ramos' even greater heading ability

frustration. Pogba is class, physique.. he should play much better

in juventus played with pirlo, marchisio and vidal, 3 players that always know what to do. His problem, his in tactic, I think

Agreed. But it shows Pogba continues to be in the top tier of midfielders. His assists/goals would be much higher if not for the woodwork and our subpar finishing.

Isn't that included in key passes? At least the finishing part should be.

Why is the X axis upside down?

I don't know. It's a dumb graphic in a lot of ways. (The Squawka possession scores are a completely meaningless metric imo, and then they have represented those scores with the diameter of the circles rather than the areas, which is terrible)

But I saw it on twitter and thought it was worth sharing here

That's a pretty high bar. Toure could play them same hollywood passes too and was often City's best playmaker. He had very good vision and could pick out runners. Toure also had an excellent through ball. Why would Pogba's passing range be better? I thought he would be a far better dribbler in terms of attacking teams defenses and driving through or carrying the ball long distances etc. But the Toure comparisons are more wishful as Pogba is more of a delicate player who likes time on the ball, kind of the artistic type. He plays more at the pace of David Silva than Toure but not the same ability.
Yaya was a beast going forward with the ability to tear through teams and had terrific shooting ability but defensively he was always a bit suspect. I'd say Pogba has similar attributes and the expectation was reasonable considering the fee we paid. I'd say if he didn't reach Yaya's level, he'll be considered as a huge disappointment.

It doesn't prove anything. These are carefully selected stats. Vidal would boss Pogba all game. Kroos and Thiago can control a game. Pogba can't. Modric can. Pogba has awful positional awareness and lazy movement. the others don't. there are soo many other aspects of being a midfielder. P.S. we should have Thiago and Pogba by now

we are all praying mate. For him to do that, it may be more realistic once we get a new deep lying dictator because atm Pogba is trying to fill that role. If someone else can, and Pogba learns to play quicker, less touches and more over lapping (forward runs), mixing up 1-2's and driving to the box, then he can have a Yaya effect. But he will need to let the ball do more of the work and play more British style than Serie A.

The money shouldn't matter because he's a marketing money machine so the club makes it back.
I suppose we should just let him dab on and exist with those ridiculous haircuts because urban kids think it's cool.

Can't keep buying players then offloading them. Schneiderlin, Depay, Di Maria, Kagawa, etc.

Pogba is a very good player, and has shown that on many occasions this season.

Moruinho needs to put him in a position and keep him there, preferably in a three man midfield, where we probably saw his best run of games.

Time will tell but I'd sooner he was here than not. There are many players that didn't start well but that doesn't mean you write them off after 8 months. The issue for me is when things aren't going well, especially when we lose, it was inevitable that the lad who earns that money was going to be scapegoat. The last time I looked, there was 10 other players on that pitch.

Some of the stuff written is unsavoury and I'm never sure because he's not playing well why people want to personalise it. Not sure what a dap or blonde hair got to do with anything.

I'll just continue to support the Utd player until the club and manager decides differently....

On that basis, we should replace Ibrahimovic with Beyonce....

It's not like he's only a marketing machine but offers us nothing else in football terms. Look at him as a £30million signing with lots of potential.
We all know what he's capable of, it's just a matter of getting those performances.

I don't know why Pogba turns your brain to mush. You're sensible enough on most other topics. He won't be in his prime for another couple of years and we should get at least 5 years out of him at his very best. He seems to keep himself in great shape.

You're post made me think. Still not got to the answer but you might have a point. Anyways, I remembered it when watching Mourinho's pro-pogba rant just now.

According to our manager, my ire towards Pogba is because I'm envious of his wealth and talent. :lol: So maybe its that!

Just as a barometer for comparison here is Pogba vs Kroos vs Thiago vs Verratti. Four players having good seasons, who are seen as key central midfielders for their clubs, who are expected to contribute to both defence and attack, without being either 10s, ball-winning midfielders or anchor men. They would all likely cost a world record fee or close to it to be acquired too.

Pogba
  • #1 for shots
  • #3 for shots in box;
  • #9 for successful dribbles;
  • #13 accurate long passes;
  • #16 for key passes;
  • #18 for passes;
  • #21 for aerial duels won;
  • #181 for tackles
  • #201 for interceptions
Kroos
  • #63 for shots
  • #100 for shots in box;
  • #49 for successful dribbles;
  • #1 accurate long passes;
  • #2 for key passes;
  • #22 for passes;
  • #207 for aerial duels won;
  • #91 for tackles
  • #179 for interceptions
Thiago
  • #104 for shots
  • #104 for shots in box;
  • #13 for successful dribbles;
  • #2 accurate long passes;
  • #25 for key passes;
  • #3 for passes;
  • #83 for aerial duels won;
  • #86 for tackles
  • #1 for interceptions
Verratti
  • #226 for shots
  • #193 for shots in box;
  • #11 for successful dribbles;
  • #32 accurate long passes;
  • #22 for key passes;
  • #4 for passes;
  • #223 for aerial duels won;
  • #18 for tackles
  • #212 for interceptions
What's the point of this? To try and illustrate that Pogba is pretty exceptional to cover the range of game that he does with the ball as a central midfielder. He's a good passer, he creates chances for teammates frequently, he can beat his man, he's also able to provide a threat in and around the box, and is still one of the top 10% or so midfielders in the air. He's not the best at winning the ball back and needs to work on that.

The whole Pogba diatribe is frankly ludicrous. I'm disappointed with his output, but he's doing what he needs to in order to contribute a high level of goals and assists. It'll come. Unfortunately, whilst he's having a cold finishing streak himself, he's also trying to assist a man and indeed an entire team in a similar predicament.

None of that matters. What matter is he is miles behind Kante.

The thread and the comments reminds me of Ronaldo many years ago, he was compared to Robben and how Robben is more of a complete player despite the same age, some of the press laughed at CR7, laughed at SAF for defending him etc and criticize to great lengths about many things. We all know how that ended.

I will review Kante and Pogba 4-5 years from now. :D
