I thought he worked hard enough in midfield, the ball wasn't on the deck enough for him to really get hold of the game.

He has been out of form since the League Cup final match. I hope Mourinho is telling him privately to simplify his game because whenever he is out of form, he tries things which doesn't quite come off and it only ends up making the matter worse.

Yeah he was shite but what did anyone expect when the ball spent 50% of the game in the air? Our best player was Marouane Fellaini FFS for very good reasons.
I want to give him time, but I honestly think that if there was a poll of United fans tonight asking if they would sell if Madrid offered £89mill this summer then more than 50% would say yes.

I feel like his balance is inconsistent. At times when there's two blokes on him trying to bring him down and he looks so strong, unmovable really, and he still has the ball under his control. Yet, at other times he just seems to fall over himself. Especially around the six yard box when he's trying to take a shot.
Yeah that's true....
He's mostly lacking in composure so not surprised he fluffs it in the six yard box.

Honestly, the price tag, the criticisms - all this just adds to the problem.

You're not wrong. 4th in the Leage in unsuccessful touches.

Not surprised that list is made up of strikers and attacking players mostly (or players trying to do stuff when they get the ball).

As somebody mentioned, the ball was in the air for the majority of the time, and the conditions were not for somebody to use their feet, but more their head.

Yet another almost anonymous performance tonight - only times I noticed him were when he was making mistakes and falling over.

I'm still waiting for the supposed Galactico to show up - you know, the world's most expensive player.

As it's now 30+ matches and counting, so I won't hold my breath....

Anyone trying to dissect a midfielders performance in a game like that doesn't have a clue. Games like that are simply a battle, anyone trying to look for footballing issues either hasn't played the game at a good level or has rocks in their head.

Wait til you see the difference in quality next week.

If we were offered £90m for Pogba, I think 90% of genuine fans would happily take it while wishing him well.

That's not a slight on Pogba, rather, it's an acknowledgement that we drastically overpaid and can now clearly see that the money could obviously be better used.

I think if we were offered £60m, and we knew a replacement would come in (someone like Veratti), most fans would gladly take it.

From what I've seen this season from Pogba on the pitch, I'd value him at around £30-40m, and before anyone jumps in saying that's harsh - please note that Payet has just moved for 25m, and Kanté went for 35m in the Summer.

So valuing Pogba on the pitch, I think that's about right.

His price tag isn't his fault, we chose to overpay crazily - see above.

I admit it's difficult to get past the price tag, but it's important to remember that he also probably wishes we hadn't paid so much!

Madrid refused point blank to pay that last summer, else he would have gone there ... Why would they offer that now given what they have seen of him this season?!

We are stuck with a shiny elephant whom we hope will improve into the midfield monster he supposedly is.

It's hypothetical mate...

But yeah, they wouldn't bid that now, obviously.

Anyone who came on here to criticize Pogba after yesterday's game is relentless. If anything the manager should get the stick for employing such tactics. He should know football is entertainment. We looked like Stoke city playing against Bayern.

:confused::confused::confused:

Totally agree with the first part, but with the state of the pitch a slick passing game wasn't really realistic.

Exactly. Expecting a proper game on they field is ridiculous. Every player tried to hoof but it was impossible to keep the ball on the ground.

So many can't wait to throw shit at our players.

I thought he had a pretty decent day today. Kept charging around and being "hard" & disruptive. Tried to play the ball on the deck when he could, but all in all it was about him helping to cut off their attacks and send our attackers in behind when the chances arose. Not easy on that patch.
Coming home with a point & a goal for the second leg - job done, and Pogs was a big part of that. (As were most, if not all our lads today I might add)

There's no way I would sell Pogba. For any money.

Have a word with yourselves.

And if Pogba had Verratti's performance against Barcelona, he would be hung. But apparently Verratti is better and everyone would swap in a heartbeat.... Right...

This is a classic case of United fans always wishing for what they don't have. If Pogba played for someone else, we would be envious. All of a sudden, our own players pale in comparison to our rivals. Its a load of garbage.

How about supporting the players? Isn't that what fans are supposed to do?

Why on earth would we sell Pogba for 90 million? It's not like we need the money to buy new players anyway.

Couldn't agree more.

He's a 10+ season investment. People forget that.

Judge him at the end of his United career. I guarantee he will be the worlds best centre mid.

I thought he was massively overrated before we bought him and this season has been about the level I expected from him.
I want to be proved wrong but everyone elses evaluation of him seems to be decreasing rather than mine going up so far.

So many people want him to be shit. That's the thing.

Its gonna be even more bittersweet when he starts sticking it to them.

Overall I'd say he's had a good season. I'd say a 7/10.

You have to stop this embarrassing elephant thing.

I highly doubt our own fans want him to fail. If anything, I would say many are so desperate for him to be great that they project greatness onto him when in reality he has been average and erratic.

Agreed, for some reason, people are desperate to paint a picture of him that suggests his form has been this bad all season. Some people have the memory of a gold fish

Seriously, on what planet has he been average? Up until the Liverpool game, most were lauding how much he's improved our midfield (which he has). Now after a spell of admittedly bad form, he's been average?

5/10 for the season. The perfect and flawless games have been too few and far between, mostly average games with a few horrendous displays. Fluffed his lines at some crucial points, takes too many shots to score a goal. He ain't got the temperament to be the midfield general role. Needs to buy a DM and unleash his attacking game to full extent.

Sure he had a good spell, so long as Herrera and Carrick did all the dirty work. Give him too much responsibility and he flounders. He was the same at Juventus, where the likes of Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio regularly held his hand. Defensively he is a liability, and even though he is a technically gifted and creative player for us, a return of 4 goals and 3 assists in the league is a poor return for any top midfielder. Let alone the world's most expensive footballer.

That list means nothing, even for people who think statistics are good barometers of anything in football. Does Robert Huth have a better touch than Wilfried Zaha? Every single one of the players in that list have a better than average touch, 3 of which (Januzaj, Sanchez and Pogba) are among the best in the league in that regard. Every single player on that list is an attacking player - it only shows which players take a lot of risks, such as turning or dribbling a player. Completely useless stats.

Of course he loses the ball unnecessarily, trying to be adventurous when under pressure in a place where he should simply release it, or being ambitious around the box when he should have played someone else - that's an issue of decision making, not ball control.

Lingard - 0.9 per game
Hazard - 1.9 per game.
Neymar - 2.6
Suarez - 1.8
Messi - 1.2

I think that's enough to show that this isn't a stat to prove player's balance.

Thing is, imagine City (or any other top 4 side for that matter) had paid £90m for Pogba and he put in these performances on a weekly basis for them.
Be honest, we'd be laughing our collective tits off.

I'm just extremely happy he didn't get injured. The ball was going over his head all night and seemed to be on the right in the middle then on the right... not sure what role he was given tonight.

Imagine if City signed him and Aguero scored all those chances, surely we would be laughing tits off.

Not really, because those sides can score so he'd most likely have 15+ assists for them and we'd still be moaning that we let him leave in 2012.
