He was solid IMO, the way the game was structured he couldn't get any of his surging runs in and had to play it simple most of the time and produced some good probing balls into the channels.

He was fine. He can't turn up trees every week, so as long as he's not crap (and he wasn't) then a performance like today is fine.

Thought he scored at the end with the one that went just past the post... his shooting will surely get better as the season progresses.

We should expect more out of the most expensive player ever.
We should but when hes also only 23 playing his second game for us you should be able to cut him some slack... That said i didnt think he was that bad, a few shots aside

Agreed. There needs to be a balance between expectations. He wasn't terrible, but we should expect more IMO.

What do you expect? On another day, 2 of those shots would have found the net. He is human, not a machine
I would expect consistent world class performances and not be upstaged by a relatively unproven youth player (as amazing as Rashford is).

It's really hard when there isn't much space to work with as Hull are defending for practically the whole match. You guys have to remember that he's not a #10 so he can't always be in the box. He has a defensive duty. Apart from his shooting (which he should be allowed to try), I don't see much to complain about.

He was fine. His fist real experience of an away premier league game, with horrible conditions, and the other team just standing behind the ball.

Still great to watch him, he will only get much better.

Well if much of his game is his defensive duties and he is limited in games like this (which make up a huge chunk of Premier League games) then he is certainly not worth what we paid for him.

Showed a different side to his game. wasn't given space to run with the ball. (No one was) but passed it very well.

Players coming on fresh against a tired defense will always have a huge advantage. It's not a proper comparison. Also, one is a striker and the other is a CM in a double pivot. They don't even play in the same area of the pitch lol.

Pogba can unlock defenses, it's just that today wasn't one of those games. Very few midfielders have his ability. His shooting is one of those qualities that can do the trick, but it didn't work out today.

It's like you've never watched a team trying to break down a team defending for their lives before. The fact that you're even bringing up the money is a joke. He's only played 2 matches and was great in the last match. Show some more patience.

Honestly people moaning about a player that's had about three weeks training and no pre season.

I've seen Bale no existent in games for Real Madrid, you can't expect pure brilliance every game. We haven't bought Ronaldo or Messi!

Bale is having a bad game for Madrid tonight.... obviously a fraud and not WC

This is the general Pogba performance when he's asked to play in a 2 man midfield for France and Juventus. He will get used to it and make the Southampton game his consistent level when playing in a 2.

Completely spot on. We do like a moan over nothing in this place at times.

Good point. But Juve have never played a 2 man midfield when he was there. In fact, I don't think they've ever played a 2 man midfield in their history lol.

Spot on about France though.

I'm not 100% but I think they did sort of play it for a while when Khedira and Marchisio were injured.

No they had Pereyra and Padoin in their place. Sometimes Lemina too. Hernanes as well. The only time they strayed from a 352 was play a 442 once i think because a ton of CBs were injured at once.

They never stray from play 3 CBs... ever. That's their strength.

I watched almost all their games.

Difficult game for a midfielder with Hull defending so deep. Someone mentioned Carrick and that he would've done the same in this game, and I think it's pretty fair statement. However, we'll see his true value against better sides trying to hurt us where he'll get more space to operate.
Once he finds his shooting boots he'll be more useful.

I too watch most of Juve's games and with Pereyra in the team, the lineup looked more like a 3-4-1-2. Anyway the point stands, Pogba so far in his career has found it difficult when he has the sort of defensive responsibility you have in a 2 man midfield or when asked to play deeper than what he is used to.

This was not a bad performance but he wasn't able to show what he is best at, his attacking play.

I mean, technically they would be right based on Pogba's actual performance. However, there would be no point in Carrick because Pogba offers a threat from outside the box and inside the box with his skill. Pogba can win a pen with his brilliant footwork. He can provide the final pass more so than Carrick. There is also more of a chance of Pogba scoring from outside the box.

Well yeah, that's what I meant. He offers us much more going forward, no questions about that. I'm very glad we're not relying on Carrick anymore (and hey, we're winning games!). The fact is though, games like these are hard for midfielders to influence.

I do think if we had a 3 man midfield, him being further up, we would see more of him doing what some are wanting. As it is, a 2 man midfield with Fellaini and were controlling the game for the most part which is good.

Obviously can be better but also only his second game. Think once he gets his shooting boots on, we will see direct contributions to goals

He was awesome in a 2 man midfield last game. I dont know what the obsession is for a 3 man midfield since he can play amazing in a 2 when hes given the freedom. Hes not playing at 6 ffs.

So let me get this straight, either Pogba gets a brilliant performance or he is poor? There isn't anything such as a normal performance where he was neither poor nor brilliant, it has to be on either end of the spectrum?

He did his job and kept the ball going forward. The stuff which would have made his performance brilliant or amazing weren't there today which is normal given no one produces brilliance game after game.

I think it's time for people to understand that a player can have a normal good performance w/o it being necessarily amazing.

His shoots didn't come off today but aside from that he play his midfielder role just fine.

And we boss the midfield, at worst one could say he was ok, certainly not poor. Some people come to random and bizarre conclusions.

Because you can't have a free player as one of your two pivots in the big games unless the other pivot is Frank Rijkaard
