Patrick Dorgu | Medical today? No. Weekend.

I’m getting Mounty vibes with this one, in that no one is particularly impressed by him yet we’ve ended up paying pretty much what Leece demanded.

Sometimes I do think the fans and the United scouting team live in alternate realities.
Most didn't fancy Ugarte either, but they do now.

Its cheap by our ridiculous wage standards but lets put things in perspective. The guy's making €12.5k a week right now and is barely known anywhere in Europe. We'd be tripling his salary and quintupling it in the 5th year.

Baby steps mate

Football fans are a funny bunch

Why? I was against it at first as I expected huge wages along with the overpriced fee, I still think the fee is too much but with the wages lower it won't be as prohibitive to move him on if it doesn't work out.

We need to get value from our signings considering how badly we have got it in recent years.

Just this sort of accounting that fans have started spending time worrying about for the club. Not a pop it's all just out of our control so feels like an unnecessary thing to stress about.

Let's just hope he comes and creates a load of goals ect.

Have to say 30m+7,5m add-ons in euros doesn't sound too bad. He's worth 20m euros according to Transfermarkt, but is 20 years old, has a contract with Lecce until 2029 and it's January transfer window which is always more difficult than summer. Especially as it seems he'll be on 30k wages which is fine as well.

Guess it's possible we'll see him in the squad for Palace game and then perhaps even start or at least get minutes vs Leicester in the Fa Cup.

Would be great if we can get an attacking player on loan before window closes as well. Obviously loan is best we can hope for.

Malacia now probably to leave on loan somewhere in Europe by the end of the week.

The guy played like 5 matches at wingback

That's only this season, last season he was played all along the left side.

As you can see he has played a total of 23 games at left back, 11 as a right winger, 8 as a left wide midfielder, 5 as a left winger, and 3 as a right back, in his 2 seasons with Lecce.

Really? They wanted £34m and we have paid £25m.

I had forgotten about Leon to be honest but by all accounts he is a long way from being first team ready so presumably we will look at him and Amass over the next couple of years and it will really depend on how they develop. I don't mind a surplus of good young players, if we can start to do that in all positions we might be able to get into a position like Chelsea and City where we have a couple of decent youngsters that we can sell on each summer to help balance the books.
Still asking a lot having a 20YO as your main guy and the alternatives being 18YO's IMO

Onana
De Light - Maguire - Martinez
Amad - Ugarte - Mainoo - Dorgu
Fernandes - Garnacho
(literally anyone else)
This is the best case if we sign Dorgu and keep Garnacho, IMO. Amad has proven to be a very capable defender and we know what he can do offensively. Maz and Dalot can be used as depth on the wings and on the back line.

Summer for sure....while i imagine Quenda will be a target, my preference would be Frimpong as he's so dynamic going forward
We need other positions upgraded/replaced before we are anywhere near ditching Dalot

I would have Maz in the RCB role but apart from that I agree with the line up.

One thing I do like is that theoretically we will now have the number 10 going inside and the wing back going outside. On both the left and the right.

That's a lot more of a headache for a any defender to deal with.

One of my biggest irks with modern football is the inverted fullback obsession from so many teams. Partly because only a few of those fullbacks are good enough to do it while actually being a threat in the final third (Cancelo with City being the chief example where he was unreal in that spot), and partly because it forces your wingers extra wide and doubled up on often where they can hardly create. It makes sense from a defensive structure POV, just gross to watch most of the time going forward.

Dalot————-———————————Dorgu

Hopefully we can have this as a settled back 5 now, instead of chopping and changing every week. I’m not Dalot’s biggest fan, but he’s much better on the right, and Mazraoui isn’t a wing back. Let’s hope we start to see the patterns of play take shape now we’ve got someone who can get up and down the pitch.

Some outlets will round up to £40m Im sure
Oh yeah 100%. Media have been suggesting Leece are demanding €40 million. Therefore it will always be referred to as a £40 million transfer.

If it’s £25 million plus add ons, it’s a pretty decent fee for January. Very low risk if it doesn’t work out.

Yep. I know there have been some skeptics about Dorgu's quality, but putting other players back into their best positions should maybe be factored into the 'value' of this transfer as well. Mazraoui looked far more comfortable at RCB than he has as a wing back on either side.

I'm hoping Dorgu can prove a few people wrong. From the admittedly very little I've seen on a few clips, he looks like he'll raise the athletic floor of the team and provide some much needed physicality. He looks a pretty decent ball carrier too. Good luck to him.

I don't think we will go after Quenda even if Amorim is ok with signing someone from Sporting - he is left footed right winger similar profile to Amad.

Scary that people think Dalot can be a effective wingback.

Wingbacks are so fundamental to the offensive side of this set up. Its a specialist role. You can't just put any old fullback in that role, especially not a mediocre one such as Dalot.

Interesting use of the word scary

Having strikers and a functioning midfield are also a fundamental requirement, without those it doesn't really matter how good or bad your wingbacks are

Yeah that's not too bad, but I originally replied to someone pointing out Fernandez didn't play LWB (I think)

It is. He's a mediocre rightback. God forbid what he'd be like as a RWB.
I doubt anyone thinks he is the long term solution but if amad plays there that means garnacho as one of the 10s which doesn't appear a natural fit either (and some may find scary). Plus there is rotation so realistically dalit will play there quite a bit

Garnacho could be sold to fund the move though

i think Quenda can play on either side as he played on the left when they went up aginst City in the CL

ideally for me it would look like this

---Yoro---DeLigt---Martinez
Quenda---------------------------Dorgu
------------Ugarte----Mainoo
------------Amad------Bruno(or Cunha)
--------------Gyorkeres---------------

I mean Dalot was basically already a wing back before he arrived at us, and has even played as a right winger for Portugal. He definitely does have the profile for Amorim's system, he's just not that good.
