Patrick Dorgu | Medical today? No. Weekend.

We’ve probably overpaid a bit but watching the highlights videos and reading stats I’m a bit more reassured. He is strong, quick, can beat players and has a decent left foot, so that already should improve us over Dalot or Maz there.
Beating the press with a dribble is very important to our build up.
He is also versatile and can play as an attacker on the right.
Really hope he is good for us.

Interesting we’re basically starting the rebuild with defence. Yoro de Ligt Mazraoui and Dorgu, not surprised it’s the defence we’re seeing improved the most so far. Hopefully midfield and attack to follow.

We can discuss his merits all we like, we had these exact discussions almost word for word with Malacia.

Highlight videos are beyond pointless. Once he's in the Man Utd kit with Old Trafford bearing down on him, it changes a player.

I'm just praying he'll be good, the pressure here is just insane.

Who cares if we overpay by £5-8m if the player turns out to be great for us? The main issue we have had is that not only have we overpaid and these players have failed to succeed to a point where we are unable to get a fraction of the money back.
I don't care if we pay 15-20% more on the buying price. It's the paying 200-700% more on the salary that kills us.

Can you think of a player who has let the pressure get the best of him in a period we have been successful? Veron? Maybe

I'm sure Romano is putting out the same tweet about Dorgu 4 or 5 times a day. Is he on commission?

I'm sure he's a good prospect and all, but we are so desperate for new signings to make an impact right away. Is he capable of that with his level of experience?

Can't afford those. Plus it's pretty clear we're building a team to compete within 2-3 years, not for instant impact.

Around 25M + 5M add-ons is a bit high but you overpay for January window signings (unless buying from us).

I think he'll be able to make a difference just by being much closer to what Amorim wants from a wingback than what we have currently. Will he make mistakes and be inconsistent and frustrating at times? Most likely, but he'll hopefully make the system work better by taking up the correct positions and transitioning quickly from defense to offense. One of the things that defined Amorims Sporting was their ability to super quickly transition from a back 5 to a front 5 with the wing backs. Dalot and Maz have been pretty slow to do that, Dorgu won't. Just by having another body high up the field quick our attack should improve somewhat.

Paying up whatever the selling club wants is nonsense.
It's 31 million quid if Fabrizio is to be believed, that's actually not bad and not too difficult to make a profit or at least break even on if he isn't a perfect fit

That’s not awful
It could look awful in a few years but could also look like great business. People on here saying it's a couple of million too much - based on what exactly?

Not many of us on here know anything about him. Judge him once he's settled in, I like the profile of player though.

Haven´t seen him play once so honestly no clue how he will fit in for us. Only hope the new guys know what they are doing.
I think we have to recalibrate our minds regarding transfer fees.
Our former guys in charge of the club acted like teenagers who has won the big jackpot, throwing money around like there is no tomorrow. Made us all think everything below 50m is pocket change.
But, 35m euros for a player is actually a lot. Just hope he is the right fit.

he's a big physical lad with very good pace and can carry the ball from the wing back spot....is he technically a top level talent, no probably not at the moment but we are desperately short of options for the left wing back/full back position and he ticks a lot of the boxes

a very similar player to the young kid at sporting who thrived under Amorim's system

I guess it's true that club officials start jumping with joy when United come for one of their players.

Hope this one at least works out.

We need a LWB almost as much as we need a striker. as always, i can only trust the manager in place and assume he wants him, so glad its getting done.

Who is similar to Dorgu there?

Looking like this will happen then.

Not expecting him to be the second coming of Roberto Carlos but I think one thing you will hear a lot of is the word ‘’balance’’ which we’ve lacked for 18 months now because of the LB/LWB situation.

Hopefully it means Dalot back to the right and Mazraoui back to RCB.

really? heres some serie a departures in recent years in euro

Lukaku 113m to chelsea.
Hakimi 70m to PSG
Pjanic 60m to Barcelona
Romero 52m to Spurs
Kim 50m to Bayern
Calafiori 45m to Arsenal - highlighted as similar position. Had one season with Bologna before sale.
Scammaca 39m to West Ham
Moise Keane 27m to Everton at 19, with 11 goals to his name
Hamed Traore 25m to Bournemouth - highlighted as in the ballpark fee wise

Not from Serie A, but to the PL last window

Ian Maatsen - a left back like Dorgu - 45m to Aston Villa
Igor Thiago - 35m to Brentford from Brugge
Max Lacroix - 25m to Palace

Lets see how the deal breaks down first, but Im not convinced yet that people should be so worked up about the supposed fee.

correct, Quenda....a young kid who's not completely polished but has pace, aggressive attack mind full back but a willing runner up and down the wing
It was my first thought, but Dorgu does not look nearly as technically smooth and agile as Quenda from the little i have seen.

probably not as agile....he's 6'2 where as Quenda is 5'8 but he's a bit more of a powerful runner with the ball than Quenda. I only reference this kid b/c he played for Amorim in the system where Dorgu would slot into

clear that malacia, dalot or maz aren't the answer the on the left hand side

I'm sure Romano is putting out the same tweet about Dorgu 4 or 5 times a day. Is he on commission?
He's paid by the clubs to influence and post. He'll tweet the same damn thing with subtle differences 10 times a day if you pay him to.

We really didn’t. Most sane people recognized it as a 13M punt

I predict that Dorgu scores more non penalty goals from this point on in the season, than Zirkzee or Hojlund.

Someone come back to me at the end of the season....

To be honest the bar is so low these days I don't think that pressure is really there anymore. Make improvements each season from next year on and people will be happy. If we were ever going to give young pubts experience on the job now is the time. Exciting signing I think...

Hakimi, Pjanic etc were all proven players.

Calafiori was a star at the Euros and more experienced..

Keane was a striker & it was during the Moshri stupidity at Everton.

Scamaca had lot more experience & scored 16 goals for Sassuolo in the previous season.

The transfer between PL clubs is a different ball game altogether.

Anyway, if it is done then it's done. Hopefully, the club hasn't the repeated the stupidity from the Antony, Hojlund, etc. deals. This is more Amad then Hojlund.
