Patrick Dorgu | Medical today? No. Weekend.

Let me put it a different way, we’re looking for dogs of war right now. He’s not that type.
Looking at his defensive stats, he reads the game better than Dorgu with 2.31 interceptions P90 compared to Dorgu's 0.66, whilst putting in more blocks and almost as many tackles. I think he is the type of player we need in defence and attack, especially.

As many people in here will inform you he's not been used as a defender like Alvaro.

Why’s everyone so obsessed with Alvaro, cause he’s cheap?
It must be. I don't see him as a great fit for Amorim's system and the main complaints I keep reading about us on here is the lack of athleticism and physicality in the team. Alvaro wouldn't improve us in either of those departments so it doesn't really make much sense why some are desperate for us to bring him back. Dorgu is raw but in terms of what we are looking for in a wing back, he's a far better fit.

If we spent money on him people would moan that we have Malacia and say we could have got him for nothing in the summer.

Dorgu is seemingly our top target. we should be going after the best players that we think are available. Walker-Peters would be another stop gap.

But a competent one. And an improvement over what we currently have available there, including Malacia. Dalot isn’t a lwb. But getting somebody competent in will free him up to cover the right side instead.

We can then add the Dorgu cash to the money we have for a LF or a striker. Giving us goals, which is what we really need at the moment

People are lamenting our poor passing just as much, for which Fernandez would be the better fit. For me, it boils down if you currently prefer passing/playmaking or athleticism/running

We need a solid foundation.

Why’s everyone so obsessed with Alvaro, cause he’s cheap?

I can think of four reasons.

1) He's cheap (at least on face value).

2) People like to criticise the club, so like leaning into the idea that we should have kept him.

3) He's a player they actually know, where they (understandably) don't know many other alternatives as well. People aren't professional scouts and can only watch so much football.

4) They think we currently need technicality more than physicality, despite the manager's constant lamentations about our lack of physicality, the reports the club is conciously looking to raise the level of athleticism in the squad and the actual demands Amorim's system places on wingbacks. So they want the "wrong" profile of player.

Which isn't to say Alvaro isn't good. But if he wasn't a former United player, he wouldn't be a particularly oustanding target relative to the other names we've been linked with.

Dorgu is 6'2 decking raw machine, who brushes defenders aside with ease. As far from Malacia or any tiny wing back as ever.

It tells us a lot when you think about it. The profile they want is a winger who can also defend. He’s racking up the numbers wherever he plays. Ideal
I'm just talking about the comparison from that list. Most guys in there play nearly exclusively full or wide back, therefore having lower attacking stats. He has games as winger, which promoted his offensive contribution. If you do the same comparison for defensive contributions, he ends up short for the same reason

INEOS gained sporting control on Christmas Eve before he was sold. They made the final decision.

Murtough doesn't just do what he wants, he answers to them buddy.
They weren't in any position to cancel a loan agreement on a U21 player, an upgrade from Granada to Benfica. Wilcox was hired in April, INEOS didn't have a team assembled. Murtough had no one to answer to for that deal.

The agreement was made after they took control.

I understand we are looking at this unique left footed specific player who has pace and stamina. However, looking at his other stats he looks very average in terms of attacking, crossing and defending and very raw in overall gameplay and not worth the amount being quoted. Maybe widen our search and try going for Left footed wingers who are good defensively. Does Victor Moses have any younger brother playing LB.

Some physical speciment this.

If he's good at defending and really good at taking players on and passing the ball, does it really matter?

Problem is that he isn't good at either.

I'd say that translates to Alvaro being good at taking players on?

Alvaro's defensive work isn't mindblowing, his interception figures are very good though and shows that he reads the game well, pretty good in the air and gets the blocks in. Overall, calling him good at defending seems pretty fair.

I'm guessing the Alvaro screenshot will be in comparison to FB's and Dorgu against wingers/midfielders. Also Alvaro playing in a weaker league.

Also 700 mins (alvaro) v 2600 mins (dorgu)

Oof. I thought you were talking about Dorgu, his lack of duelling prowess and the quote of lacking physicality made sense.
