Good to see this bumped for positive reasons. He was excellent today.

Absolutely solid today, shows how good he really can be. Which is annoying because he has these games very rarely.

Perhaps the goal gave him confidence, hope this continues!

Best game in a long time. Looked like his old self today.

Nice for him to get a goal on his 300th appearance for the club.

He does better when facing a strong and rather slow opponent than a tricky winger.
Pardew made a big mistake by sticking Ben Arfa on the left whereas he could have been more dangerous on the right.Evra knew how to deal with Cisse and Ameobi

Great game from Patrice maybe the competition wil spur Him on to a new lease of life. Was the best player on the pitch today for me owned the left hand side in defence and attack.

Looking at the website, it seems today was his 300th appearance as well

It's frightening to consider that the performance today from Evra was something he was putting in pretty much every week at one point (maybe even a bit better back then). He was great today!

Today's Evra reminded me of old time's Evra. Brilliant display.

Great performance from him today. I don't think he was beaten all match and newcastle never got a sniff down his wing. Provided his usual offence as well and gave the team width when needed. Popping up with a goal was just he icing on the cake for him.

That was refreshing. It's been awhile since we've seen defensively dominant Evra. The goal isn't even as big a deal to me as how he patrolled his wing with confidence, intercepting everything that came his way. Hopefully it sparks a return to form rather than being a momentary blip in his decline. We'll see.

Is he in the France squad?

Yes!

Do you think the competition of Buttner is already paying off?

Looked like he actually cared about defending today! Brilliant display, great to see, hope it continues. That our whole defence looked much steadier with him putting in a good shift is no coincidence.

Good to see he is picked again.

Not sure if it is the competition that makes him play proper again. Let's wait how well he plays in the next 5 games as he already had single games where he was doing very well

I thought he was tucking in to help the centre backs which led to Cleverly and/or Rooney having to track back and deal with the wide defending. This stopped the usual scenario of the winger having bags of room whilst Evra trots back in his lackadaisical manner to watch the winger whip a cross in.

We almost got caught out a couple of times, but Evra was in the middle to help deal with the cross, rather than standing in no man's land watching it get delivered, so in that respect I guess it worked.

What was that upside down W salute thing?

if you turn a W upside down you get an M, maybe he was referring to Manchester United seeing as he had just scored for them.

Wasn't it meant to be a Heart?

Edit: See-

On a side note... loved how chuffed all 3 of our goalscorers looked after scoring. Evans in particular went mental!

He was brilliant yesterday. It's promising to see that he actually still has performances like that in his locker as it's been such a long time coming.

Hopefully that will give him the hunger and confidence to find that level more consistently over the coming weeks.

L'Equipe's France ratings: Lloris 7; Debuchy 5 Koscielny 4 Sakho 6 Evra 7; Cabaye 5 Gonalons 4 Matuidi 7; Menez 3 Benzema 5 Ribery 8.

That was for match against Spain. Good to see he's regaining some form.

I watched the second half, and at one time a saw a player rushing forward and I thought to myself, f*** he was fast, and it was Evra!! He seems to be regaining his pace and looks better at defending also. Promising this. Now, if could Nani also kick in, we will be lethal!
