It's always nice to see some of the old Evra. Any chance he could produce that a lot more often?

I'd like to see the difference in our goal scoring from corners before and after he started going into the box and taking part.

Buttner has given him the kick up the ass he needed.

Looks that way - ironic since Buttner hasn't been all that good :D

We must bear in mind that Ferguson said that last season Evra played with injuries, as you could tell by his old man running syndrome. This season he looks so much more his old self.

Very good. 2 goals this season in the league compared to 2 from 2005 to August 2012.

The goals are a nice bonus but I'm happy enough he's restored his defensive game. Still one moment where I thought he could've closed an opponent down better - the low cross punched by De Gea I think - but overall his concentration and tackling is a lot sharper.

Where are those fools who felt Evra was finished?

He is having a good season

You can thank Buttner for that. His debut scared the shit out of Evra. I've been one of Evra's detractors for a while. Glad to see him performing well. Hope he keeps it up. Him and Young work well together.

Evra definitely has been much better of late. Good to see him get a goal as well

I said it all last season, he'd just become a scape goat. His form was never even remotely close to being as poor as some made out, if it was, he wouldn't have still been the first name on the team sheet and vice captain.

Thats a sugar coated view imo. He has been absolutely terrible at times, and a lot of the criticism was fully justified in my view.

Buying buttner has given him some well needed competition for his place, and he has responded in the right way. you can clearly see the all round improvement in his game. His defending has improved no end in the past few weeks, even when the team has defended poorly in general, he has still looked much improved.

You have to consider Evra has set his own high standards in previous seasons and was correctly regarded as one of the best about. he has been way off that level for a long time, and only he could change that. He has turned himself around and is now rightly receiving the plaudits for showing the level of performance we all knew he was easily capable of.

He was excellent again today, and with him possibly getting back to something near to his best form, that can only be viewed as a huge boost for us looking forward!

better going forward lately but is still the biggest defensive liability. that will never change. scoring goals is a huge plus.

Every threat Arsenal had in the second half came from getting in behind Rafael so I'm not sure where that notion comes from.

Well you say "every threat", I think there were like two of those in total! Arsenal had that one moment down our left in the first half, but other then that, they didn't threaten us at all.

He looks to be back. :D Not at his very best, but that level of performance and contribution was almost impossible back then anyway.

Yeah, that is still every threat. Doesn't tie in with Evra being a defensive liability really.

In truth, his form last season was average as a whole. Not good, but certainly not as bad as some would have it. Look at Cole atm, Santos today, Ekotto his entire career etc, they are all caught out of position, skinned numerous times every match and it only natural for a fullback to be all those things; they are expected to attack, and subsequently they will be left exposed.

Fergie also said that Evra played with injuries last season, which of course left him exposed physically. The thing that bugs me though is that whenever Evra is skinned our outpaced supporters her scream for Baines who is skinned just as much as an average Evra and outpaced twice as often.

Fact is that we, as United supporters, were spoiled with an out of this world Evra for a few seasons. And although he has lost form last season, he was still better than most. This season, it looks to me that we might have the best fullbacks in the league in Rafael and Evra, and long may it continue.

I don't think anyone is expecting him to turn onto Maldini, but he is now regularly fulfilling the basics of his defensive duties, and that is all we can expect of him. When we can see that extra effort from him, then it should be acknowledged and he should take some credit for it, just as he was castigated at times for not fulfilling those same duties last season.

Arsenal has feck all down his flank today, i think Ramsey got past him once in the first half, but i'll settle for that compared to some of his shockers in recent times! you can only do your best and try your hardest, and i think Evra has been doing that and is starting to look the business once again. Full credit to him for his recent turnaround, and i was one of the critics of his poor form.

it comes from watching him get beat, or vacate his position and it cost us, for the last two or three seasons. it's been exhaustively discussed.

Yeah, the "defensive liability" thing is just turning into a cliche at this point.

Evra genuinely has gone from one extreme on here where he could no wrong to being able to do little right. There can at times on this forum seem like certain posters just go with the seemingly popular opinion regardless of what has actually happened.

I thought we were talking about his performance today/recent form.

Yep, this post pretty much nails it.

Don't forget that due to Buttner he also seems to be very getting rested from league cup and some other pointless matches.

Weird to see him score though.

Twice already! Although I do think he sometimes gets unlucky because its not unusual for him to get in good attacking positions only to fluff a shot or have the keeper save it. Two headed goals for him this season though and he seems to be going from strength to strength. Good point about buttner giving him the odd game or two off. Now if only SAF could do the same for Carrick.

Pretty amazing that he's getting his goals from headers. Also scored with a header two years ago against Wigan.

Possibly, but while i agree with the overall assessment of average, he had far less very good games than shockers! He had some real stinkers at times, and when your overall form isn't great then the stinkers are what people remember most.

I would happily accept injury as a possible contributory factor, but imo it does not excuse the regular failing to fulfill basic defensive duties that we have seen so often. The bottom line was he was fit enough to rampage up and down the left wing for the vast majority of last season. So if he was fit enough to do that, then surely he was fit enough to defend far better generally, as we are seeing him do at present.

I would also find it a huge coincidence that Evra's sudden return to form has not been the result of a sudden and serious threat to his place. He is now simply applying himself far better in all of his duties in my view. He is tracking back, closing down, covering his centre halves, denying wingers the opportunity to run at him, and as a result he is getting caught out far less.

Fact is that we, as United supporters, were spoiled with an out of this world Evra for a few seasons. And although he has lost form last season, he was still better than most. Maybe, but for me i think we were spoiled with a world class defence. Evra was obviously a part of that, but had he defended as he did last year, that defence would not have been as good so often. Seeing Evra defend over the past few games only cements my view that he had become too comfortable, and was not applying himself as well as he did at his best, or as well as he is currently.

Agree that if this form continues our full backs look very good, and with Smalling and Jones on the way back to take the pressure off Rio and evans, we look in very good shape.

please. no one can deny evra has been terrible defensively. the other parts of his game have been ok and have actually gotten better of late.

He is having a good season with a couple of poor performances. I think you are only remembering the bad games

You're saying you're using clichés to judge a player who has been better in recent weeks ? I mean Evra has done well in the last month or so.We should enjoy it and not resort to some judgement that was used to describe him last season
