He has been out of form for a while, yeah. Defends like a spastic and often gives the ball away needlessly.

I think giving him the captaincy was a bit of a mistake. With all the entrenched interests of the role, I think it has made him undroppable in Ferguson's eyes.

He went through a really good spell for a month or so, but yeah he has looked very worrying

Evra was poor to today and a definately culpable for the first goal, and season wise has been poor defensively. But having said that he got no support what so ever from Young, who was fecking atrocious throughout bar one good shot.

It's no coincidence that as soon as Young went off the team came back and looked more composed in all areas.

He is an absolute liability and has been for about 2 years

We all love him, but it's getting ridiculous, his goals for the opposition per game ratio is like 1 in 2

We could do with someone like Oshea, funnily enough, who could step in for Evra but not expect to start every game. At the moment we have no choice but to play him every game.

SAF has dropped players for routine crap performances but Evra seems undroppable. I wouldn't mind seeing Fabio given a run of games. Might give Evra a kick up the ass.

He's always injured though. We don't have replacements.

Woeful today. I'm still going to stand by him as I have been doing, but there's going to eventually be a time where I can't back him up anymore, and I can't say that he's improving or that he's going to improve.

Not very good defending from evra today. specially the first goal, letting the player through in that small space takes some doing.

SAF needs to give him some competition with fabio playing some games..

Thing is, it wasnt even a good move by Sturridge for the goal. At times he just doesnt know how to defend at all when players run upto him.

i think we could be shopping for a left back in the summer.....

izaguirre maybe?

Young was very poor indeed and had we played Park, Giggs or Welbeck in his position from the start..we'd have better control and worked them more down the left. I can't understand why we started Young. Surely, after he's been out for so long and had been on poor form prior, he'd be a safer bet off the bench, especially since we had coped so well without him.

But bar the second goal, Young couldn't have done anything about the 1st and 3rd.

An absolute liability at the minute. Defending for the frist goal was atrocious. The moment that pissed me off though was near the end when he had a two yard headstart on Mata yet he just started jogging expecting the ball to go out of play yet Mata sprinted to the line and kept it in.

Wondering why Fabio is not getting any games at all. Evra has been below par defensively

Evra has been very poor for a while defending but I think his attacking as improved at the same time, he often creates good moments down that left hand side for us but now looks unable to defend when people run at him. I don't know what should be done really because that threat going forward is important for us.

Yes, and it went relatively unnoticed.

That could be because people tend to take more notice of glaring errors than no errors at all.

Let's face it if we are only able to find one small window where he has played error free in god knows how long, then surely the case is closed. He is a defensive liability and should either be employed as a LM for his attacking contribution or not at all.

He made Bosingwa look good today defensively, that takes some doing imo.

Disappointing again, every goal came from his area on the pitch. We really need someone that can challenge for his place as at times it is a glaring weakness in our team.

Made some amends in winning the first penalty.

Defending has never been his strength but it's gotten worse lately. He's still amazing going forward though and pretty much worth his place in the team for that alone.

Its a shame to say this cos I consider myself a Patrice partisan. Nobody can doubt his commitment to the cause everytime you hear him talk about United its all music to the ears but he hasn't really been hitting his usual high standards recently.

That's not to say he's been awful lets not forget, for all the talk about Evra's mistakes, he usually only gets caught out up against a top class opponents its not like he's buggering it up against average players. You can hardly blame him for being beaten by the likes of Danny Sturridge whose been in superb form.

Still a few years ago he was sharper, stronger, speedier. Whether its age or exhaustion he's just not on it as often as he used to be. Instead of being consistently 7 out of 10, he's been more like 8 one game, 6 the next. I hope he can sort it out cos when he's at the races he's the best left back in the league. Its just nowadays he doesn't seem to play like it as much as you expect.

Maybe the standards he's set for himself are too high for him to live up to as age takes its toll..?

had rio as help and still got caught going the wrong way on the first and he was no where to be found on the cross from torres for #2. he actually was found in the instant replay in the middle of the field , he is a lb and needs to sort his shit out or be dropped. he's a liability at the back.

no competition for evra , he need a kick up his arse...

I wouldn't say the captaincy has much to do with it, he's only the vice captain after all. Gary Neville was full captain in 08/09 and often got dropped, Giggs was vice captain in 07/08 when Neville missed practically the whole season, and he often didn't play in favour of Nani or Park, in which case the captaincy was passed on to Ferdinand. It's more to do with Ferguson being unconvinced by Fabio at Left Back and the lack of any other players to compete for the position.

Every winger in the league would love to come up against him. So easy to skin him and leave him for dead. Definitely better going forward than at the back.

Are Evra's performance and abilities clouded by his unquestionable popularity?

I can't think of another United player that makes you so proud/laugh so much when you hear what they've got to say, or preaches all the right things so much. He's also Captain, but I don't need to list why he is popular, popularity aside is he still good enough?
