His crossing is absolutely dreadful. Honestly baffles me how he gets in so many good positions and delivers it so poorly.

I still love him though.

Think the last good cross he hit was for Scholesy at City in the 1-0 win. I can't for the life of me recall any other

Anyone else think his legs are gone? (Not literally, Richard)

Uhh....I remember one other and that was a cross for Rooney in a 3-0 victory over Chelsea in 08/09

They appear good enough for certain games but at the highest level......no!

TBF he's played his legs off for us over the years hardly missing any games, it's just taken it's toll. The shame is we've never seemed to have found an able deputy or even apprentice to the LB role

Nothing's "Gone". He has never been world class at his positioning and tracking back. He is explosive at going forward and offers us a lot of weight and pressure on the left wing, and at times defends well. But most of our problems stem from lack of positioning at the LB position.

For me Evra offers more than he takes away from our game.

Evra's been only decent- average whenever I've seen him for past two years.

Even Esou-Ekotto from Spurs look a much better left back for my liking in the past 2 years or so.

Maybe he had not been world class at his positioning or tracking back, but going forward, he offered us so much more on the left wing a few seasons ago that he has not been offering the last couple of seasons.
That is the part that has "gone" from his game.

Evra has been well off the boil for 1 and a half years, to be fair.

It's a shame, because it'll get to the stage whereby we'll forget just how good he's been for United. He was pretty much an impossible player at one point.

It's a shame Fabio doesn't seem to be putting more pressure on his place. We'll play anybody who fancies a go at right back, and then sub them for their dog, but left-back remains unmovable despite some underwhelming performances over a long period of time.

Two instances yesterday where some were blaming him, involved the ball being hoofed up field. No player in the world could get back so quickly.
The thing is, he may not get back to stop that particular attacking move, but he'll be back there to clean up when it breaks down.

There's been numerous times when the opposition have attacked down our left side and Evra is just jogging back. The attacking move has broken down but the opposition still have the ball, they pass it around a couple of times and then spread it back out to that side. Evra realises the danger and starts sprinting, but it's too late and the opposition have the ball in a great position again.

I spent the first half of the game against Norwich sitting at the half-way line, about five rows back, on the same side as Evra. Because of all the stick he's been getting I paid particular attention to how much effort he was putting into getting back to defend when he was caught upfield. Every single time, without fail, he bust his balls to get back into position.

I think people don't appreciate the distance he covers in an average game. Because he likes (and is, by all accounts, encouraged) to get forwards so much he spends a lot of the game camped outside the opposition box. This means he has to do more running than almost any other player on the pitch. Stands to reason that he won't be able to do all this running at a full sprint.

It also means that if the opposition get hold of the ball and hoof it long to a striker who gets the ball under control and turns his marker (which happened repeatedly against Basle and few times against Norwich) Paddy would need a frigging moped to get back in time to help out our central defenders.

He must be under some sort of instructions to stay upfield in case we can counter their counter attack.

No way he'd get away with jogging back unless Fergie approves.

This is a few months old and probably posted on here but I've not seen it before.

What a character!

:D

Maybe not (i agree that there are better captains at the club), but I don't think he was anywhere near the worst player today.

Very poor today, he needs a rest but we can't with so many defenders out. Think he is still quality but he literally plays every single minute. That throw in at the end and some of his passing was particularly bad. Needs to step it up in terms of performance.

My take on Evra, and this is something that has been formed over several seasons, and not a knee jerk reaction today is that he talks a good game but doesn't quite live up to it.Takes too much risk especially considering his technique and defensive qualities especially positioning is poor. When he have a good game - that is the exception.

A rest isn't going to do him any good. If anything, it would only damage his confidence, which must be quite low already.

He used to have the worlds best central defense pair covering for him when he went on his walkabouts. Completely different in games like these.

He is naturally also losing pace which used to be a big part in his defensive play, using his pace to make up for what he lacks in other senses.

He is a good player, but no where near being among the best in the world.

Was never captain material anyways.

Just proves lack of leaders at United currently.

I thought he had a good first half, attacking wise he was really good in that first half, provided us with an outlet down the left

I think he's been fairly good this season myself. Nowhere near the Evra of 2009 who could dominate a whole flank himself but still well worth his place in the team. He's still vital in an attacking sense aw he probably gets behind the opposition more than any of our players. Not as good as he once was but still a good player and not 'past it' by any means.

He was okay today. Not impressed from our captain

I think that sums it up really. He's OK. I think he gets alternately overrated and underrated by United fans, but he's never been as good positionally as we hope and he's not as effective going forward as we like to dream.

His fall from grace has been horribly severe.

The fact that he's still first choice says more about our lack of quality alternatives.

He's woeful at times. The ease with which players ghost past him is embarrassing.

more and more mistakes creeping into his game. Needs to get on top off it before he gets replaced!

we have no one really proven that can take his place though, Fabio and Fryers are both still young and untested at this level.
