Mame Biram cannot take Welbecks place. Welbeck was on the b-list. Mame hasn´t been in the country or club for 3 straight years!
He might be in instead of Macheda!

But if Hargo clearly can't make it then Diouf can just take Hargo's spot..

But they claim De Laet takes that spot

What about O'Shea's spot? Or has he been included with the hope that he gets back by March and hope we are still in the comp till that long?

He might get o´Shea´s spot, that might be why De Laet is included as well.

That three weeks part should be changed to three years.

There you have it.

I'm half expecting this season to be written off for him.
If Hargreaves was never going to play again then he would announce it himself.

Urm we were about to sign Senna the season we signed Carrick.. Not the season we signed Hargreaves.. If you remember the season we signed Hargo we signed Nani and Anderson as well and our biz was finished very early.. Where as the Carrick transfer was done a little later in the mix and thus the whole saga of Senna played out..

Nah, we were first looking/linked at Senna back then but when we made our advances towards Hargreaves is when we reportedly had Senna if we wanted him and then pulled the plug and he came out with comments about the Glazers wanting English players instead. Then we waited and signed Hargreaves and were never linked again or bid for Senna. We already had Carrick before Senna made those comments but we were clearly on the Hargreaves chase for a season and a half while the Senna story unfolded.

Very Jesper Blomqvist this. WOn the league and European Cup in his first season then missed the next two. It's not looking good for Owen. It may be more beneficial to United to cash in on the insurance.

If he goes 2 full seasons without playing a professional game his career as we remember it will be over. It's hard enough resurrecting your career in at any club in any league after that long away from the game. To do it at United with the standard we expect would require a minor miracle. If SAF says he's out for this season, I do expect he will be released sometime in the summer. It's tragic because you could tell he really wanted to make it at United but the clock and his own body have really been cruel to Hargreaves.

We missed Fletcher that game. But in truth, we were just outclassed by a better team, no shame in that. If you think Hargreaves playing would have changed that result, then you must think he's some kind of Super player.

With the Liverpool game, we were in control and 1-0 up, until Vidic had a spaz attack (in an otherwise faultless season), and then Evra gave away a penalty. Once again, Hargreaves wouldnt have made any difference. Like Fergie said, we somehow lost that game 4-1, yet bizzarly, we were the better team.

We would probably still have got beat against Barca with Hargreaves or Fletcher, but we would have had a better chance at winning. The 4-1 game, maybe Liverpool would have had less possession if we'd had Hargreaves.

If we just release him then we'll have taken one hell of a hit on the fee. As heartless as it would undoubtedly be I'm sure there are those within the business side at the club hoping he'll retire and we can recoup some of our money.

What's the odds on him doing a Saha? Rocking up elsewhere, staying injury free and making a big impact...

I always got the feeling with Saha that he had niggles, and minor problems that would pile up one after the other. Hargreaves has to rank in the top 5 of most crocked players to ever feature in the top division.

Compare him to the likes of Darren Anderton, Robben, Cisse, Rosicky, Micheal Owen, Ledley King, Woodgate and I think he'd still come out tops.

:(

We very nearly signed Senna in 06, but signed Carrick instead.

I agree. We've taken a massive hit on him already. The fee, the wages, the medical bills. The club is a business, and players are its assets and investment. At some point you have to recognize that the return on investment is just never going to materialize. Harsh as it sounds, there is a reality that we as fans have to get used to in a time where even the big clubs are looking to tighten their belts.

macheda doesn't need a spot does he? he's young enough to not need to be officially named, as far as i know.

He has been with us for 2 years in the start on the season, but to be on the b-list he needs to have been with us for 3. He was on the a-list.

yeah but wasn't he under 18 when the season started. I think he qualifies because of that. [may be wrong though]

Ah yes I remember now.. We signed Carrick and were about to sign Senna in the same window too when we backed out and him stating that we wanted an English player instead.. A year later we bought Hargo..

United tried to sign Hargreaves at the time they tried to sign Carrick, but Bayern Munich were angry at the approachs being made.

Do correct me, if I'm wrong, but his contract is due to run out in June 2011.

Such a shame - brilliant player for Bayern, was included in the starting eleven in the Champions' League final 2001 - against Valencia - at the age of only 20.

Ottmar Hitzfeld brought him into the first-team in 2000 and Hargreaves made his debut v Real Madrid in the Champions' League semi-final where he was excellent.

Injuries hampered his progress already in Germany, he only made 143 appearances* for the Bavarians in 7 years in the Bundesliga.

2000/2001: 14
2001/2002: 29
2002/2003: 25
2003/2004: 25
2004/2005: 27
2005/2006: 16
2006/2007: 9

He should just right this season off and train until he feels right to try a comeback, possibly training with the odd reserve team game towards the end of the season and then a summer off might be the best for him. No point forcing the issue and no point abandoning him either.

You have to question the medical staff when we signed him, that record is poor. A talented player but Bayern really got an exceptional deal for a player that makes Jimmy Bullard look like Claire from Heroes.

If he was eligible for the B squad, of which there isn't any limitations, they could have included him in the mainsquad and wasted that advantage by mistake, but surely including Ritchie DeLaet as well would've made prudent sense.

However, you could have a point just because I knew he wasn't named on the B List the last time, which does beg a question ... is he possibly is eligible now, he joined in 16 September 2007, which may've meant he was just weeks from the eligibility criteria. This assumes that B list rules can adapt in January to include more eligible players.

Otherwise I would say Mame Biram Diouf will be replacing either Federico Macheda or Gabriel Obertan, possibly at a stretch John O'Shea.

I think that next season he will be eligible as will the da Silvas for the B squad but that Jonny Evans and Anderson will not be.

I wonder if Rodrigo Possebon qualifies?
