Outgoing Players

Men, BBC and others all talking about Basti.... Woodward obviously sent out a group text to his homies

Having been told by Mourinho that they have no future under him at United, Schweinsteiger and Januzaj are the two players facing the exit door, with the manager prepared to work with the likes of Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Memphis Depay, who have all struggled to impress in pre-season.

Juan Mata, who was sold to United by Mourinho for £37.1m in January 2014, is another player who has been told that he will contribute in the first-team this season.

United are confident of being able to offload Schweinsteiger, with the German midfielder attracting interest from within the Premier League, Italy and the United States.

Sunderland are keen to take Januzaj to the Stadium of Light, although the Belgian winger could yet be loaned due to the club’s reluctance to completely cut their ties with a player regarded as having immense potential, but one whose attitude has frustrated the coaching staff at Old Trafford.

Getting Schweinsteiger off the wage books would be a good bit of business. I saw somewhere that he was on £200k a week with us... Bayern really took us on a ride with that one

Sadly we could end up still paying part of that wage unless he goes somwehere like China or the US

Schweinsteiger has AC Milan or Juventus written all over him.

Should have really tried to send him to Juve as part of the Pogba deal. But i guess then we would have had to pay an extra £10m :(

Getting rid of Schweinsteiger and Januzaj would be a good start. Although I would like to see buy back clauses becoming more prevalent in our sales.

Glad the Januzaj talk has turned back to just a loan.

The lad has barely played a competitive game since LVG's first season. It's hard to say what he's currently capable of.

No talk of Pereira... Hope he gets a good loan deal.

Man i remember all the joy last year when we got Schweini, what a shame. I hope he moves abroad, i don't want this biting us back in the arse.
Hopefully fellaini finds a club, any club.

Agreed. We never get any decent money for our player sales. The least we can do is insure ourselves against a Pogba/Matic situation.

Would love to see Schweinsteiger and Young being sold. Also happy about Love and McNair. McNair might become a Michael Keane like defender, decent for mid-table clubs. Januzaj being loaned and Mata being kept are good news.

No news about Fellaini leaving which is really gut wrenching.

Not surprised by this. The Community Shield told us a lot about how Mourinho sees him I think. He likes his height, wants to use him in a very deep role to compete for set pieces and when teams play the long ball game. I guess I can live with that for a year as long as he isn't a regular starter, even though he was at the very top of the list of players I wanted gone.

Schweini sold and Januzaj on loan makes a lot of sense. Mata staying is also positive, as he was good in pre-season so far. I wonder what will happen to Pereira? Jose said he likes him a lot but he has not played in a while

Fellaini can make a big difference in certain matches.

If my memory serves, there was a time long ago when a triangle of Fellaini, Ashley Young and Shaw was winning us matches and overpowering opponents.

Even if Fellaini isn't the focal point, then he remains a handful for opponents as a complementary player.

As for Young, he's probably behind Shaw, Rojo, Blind, and maybe even Darmian at left back.

He has Martial, Miki, and probably Rashford in front of him as a winger with Depay needing matches if he is going to develop into a player for us or have any sell on value.

Young is an above average Premiership player who isn't getting any younger, so it wouldn't surprise me if he chooses to go where he can get more of a chance to play

Wilson unwilling to join Birmingham

Press Association claims Wilson does not want to drop down to the Championship. That might be unrealistic, since he didn’t set the world alight at Brighton on loan last season.

Why would Palace need another winger with Bolasie, Zaha and Townsend already?
That's assuming that he would be going as a winger as opposed to a full back. It seems its probably speculation anyway.
Lets face it, was he even on a train when that pic was taken?

Like I said before, why does a footballer on £100K a week need to catch a train, and more to the point, would he even know how to catch a train?
Maybe he's gone all Jarvis Cocker and wants to live like the common people?

Ideally we'll sell Schweinstegier, Rojo, and Young, plus a few more of the fringe players like Keane, Blackett etc, then just loan Januzaj, Wilson, Pereira, CBJ, and Tuanzebe, that will hopefully free enough wages, and gather enough money to sign a CB later on this month.

I do still think we'll end up selling someone of high value in this window aswell, lets face if someone comes in with a £30 m + bid for any of Mata, Fellaini, Blind, Herrera, Schneiderlin, or Memphis then we'll more than likely sell.

Don't see anyone coming in with a £30m+ bid for any of them players.

We did not sell Pogba

I'm not suggesting we did. You know what.

Player leaves the club, realises their potential and you haven't worked in first refusal on buying them back.

I understand buying clubs not wanting that clause there, but we sell players so cheap. We should be able to work something in.

The thing is mentioning Pogba in this sort of scenario is silly. He left when his contract was up, there was NO WAY for us to work in the sort of clause you indicate.

Honestly for the young players who we have sold, who would you really want back and would want to come back?

Is it that hard to understand?

Player leaves Club A
Player becomes better at Club B
Club A purchases him back

I'm not suggesting we could have inserted a clause with Pogba, but it's the stand out best example of the scenario above. If it makes you happier, read it as Morata.

Another scenario regarding young players: Sunderland want Adnan. We offer a loan, they want to sign him for 25m. We would only consider a sale at say 35m. The clubs are at an impasse. I would happily let him leave for 25m if we inserted a first refusal buy-back clause. Barring an amazing uptick in form, I can't see Adnan doing anything but stagnante in the next 24 months if he stays here. I'd happily have Morata type deals for some of our promising youth products.

Man United forcing Jose Mourinho to sell before spending more - sources

Jose Mourinho must sell from his Manchester United squad before he can buy the central defensive leader he craves, club sources have told ESPN FC, pushing Juan Mata and at least nine other players further to the exit.

Having finally secured the world-record signing of Paul Pogba from Juventus to continue a productive summer in the market, the Portuguese remains intent on a commanding Nemanja Vidic-style centre-half to complete his team, but sources say he has been told the club will look to sell players first in order to balance business.

That is especially the case given that the profile of the defender that Mourinho wants would likely involve another big fee, especially with the lack of such players on the market. United have already informally spoken to Juventus about Leonardo Bonucci and Real Madrid about Raphael Varane.

The French defender has already turned down the Old Trafford club, though, while United themselves are wary of getting into more protracted negotiations with Juventus. And at the same time, sources say Bonucci is now much more reluctant to leave Turin than he was earlier in the summer, when Manchester City felt they were close to getting him.

Meanwhile, Mourinho is willing to sell up to 10 players in order to trim his squad, with Juan Mata, Adnan Januzaj and Bastian Schweinsteiger the most high-profile.

As regards a signing like Mata, however, the United hierarchy want to ensure they at least recoup most of the £37.1 million they spent on him, with Everton showing some interest.

Mourinho has a net spend of around £145m this summer, having brought in Pogba, Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The only players so far sold for a fee have been Paddy McNair and Donald Love, both to Sunderland for a combined £5.5m.

That is likely to change over the coming days, as the Portuguese streamlines his squad.

It makes far more sense to add a sell on clause. Buy back clauses should be very rare, a 1 in 20 event at most. The sell on clause should depend upon the sale price. For example: Michael Keane was sold for about £2m or less. In that situation add a sell on clause. If Burnley had wanted to pay twice as much, say £4m then they could escape the sell on clause.
