Tbh Dortmund sort of does to the rest of the league (Leverkusen especially) what Bayern does to them: Ginter, Sokratis, Ramos, Bürki, Reus, Castro were all signed from Bundesliga Clubs, the last two were the MVPs of Gladbach and Leverkusen at the time. Now there are reports that Toprak might be considered as a Hummels replacement, Dahoud was mentioned as a Gündogan replacement (though I believe that wasn't more than speculation) and from what I remember Kießling was a candidate when Lewandowski left.

I find it a bit hypocritical to blame Bayern for signing very good players who come with little risk for fair prices. They are just doing their job, it's the players who don't have the loyalty to at least leave for a different club .

But Dembélé isn't a striker, he isn't going to replace Aubameyang, so selling the latter means bringing a new striker.

I haven't seen much of him to be honest but from what I heard I thought he was in the same boat as Martial in that he plays in the wide areas of a front 3 but could become a central striker quite easily?

Not a striker, plays anywhere behind the main front man

If Dembele was going to move to Bayern after Dortmund, why wouldn't they just sign him now and loan him out?

Because they can let Dortmund take the risk of investing in the player. Once he is ready and setting the league on fire they will come in and take him. Bayern are rich enough to pay the premium for ready made product at the end.

Lewandowski, Gotze and Hummels for £50m. Not even much of a premium

oh yea. I am was just implying that they can afford to pay the premium. In this case it's just bullying your younger brother.

Spoke to French tv and has said he prefers the German league to the English, but hasn't agreed any deals yet.

Guess it'll be bayern / Dortmund.

Says he uses us on playstation but he prefers Bundesliga. This one is off.

If we want him (big if) we can always have a word with Silvestre. Also the player could look at Martial and think he can also grab a spot in the starting 11. Something he couldn't do at Bayern or even at Dortmund.

I don't think we are seriously interested though.

He is playing versus PSG. Nice to see Verrati back and Zlatan scoring.

Dembele told beIN Sports: "I do not know what will happen this summer. I have signed a three-year contract last November and I'm fine in Rennes. The transfer market rumours bother me, but we do not pay much attention. As for now, I have no agreement with any team, I don't know if I'm ready to play abroad."

He is obsviously denying everything, but it probably is 99% done and dusted, just needs a signature i guess.

They also said Gündogan to United is a done deal last summer ;)

Let's wait and see, would be a great buy for them and better than the return of Götze imo.

Dortmund journalist from the Ruhr Nachrichten says Dembele transfer to Dortmund will happen.

Canal+ just said that Bayern were willing to outbid Dortmund if Dortmund actually bid which they didn't do yet.

On a serious note, i think he would rather join Dortmund, instead of sitting on the bench

I wish he could come here and play instead of bloody Memphis. The #7 shirt is yearning for someone special.

I'm sorry to chime in but in your first sentence, you're mixing up Der Westen and Ruhr Nachrichten as primary sources.
Gündogan's family briefed Der Westen and Sky Germany. Their reports were referred to by many media outlets, including RN.

Regarding Dembele, RN and (Sport)Bild are the primary source. According to RN the deal is very advanced, (Sport)Bild claims the deal is done and will be signed and announced on 14th of May when it's clear whether or not Rennes plays European football.

I entirely agree with your second sentence though. Before there's no official press release, nothing is sealed, everything's possible. I'd prefer Dembele or other shining young talent over Götze on every day of the week.

L´Equipe is reporting €15-20M, to be finalised today, five year deal. Kicker says transfer fee is overestimated. One area where Dortmund actually benefits from their "easy" sells, is that big talents feel they can always move onto the superclubs without much inconvenience. That Aubameyang was such a smashing success moving to Dortmund from a smaller French club certainly played its part, too. If Dortmund can hang onto their front players and maybe bring back Goetze. Wow. Reus/Dembele, Goetze/Kagawa, Mkhitaryan/Pulisic, Aubameyang/Ramos.:eek:

I think you can delete (at least) Ramos and Mkhitaryan from that list but that's just my gut feeling. Rumors have it that we could bring in 19-year old Oleksandr Zinchenko who can play many offensive positions, and given that he visited a Europa League game in Dortmund and been in talks with BVB, it doesn't sound too far fetched. We'd be quite overstocked then and therefore, I expect at least one if not more departures in our attacking departments.

Rennes have rejected a 15M Euro offer from Dortmund.

He also has liked this tweet. Either he's a big troll or he really wants to go there. Or he just doesn't care.

15m euros?

Do they think Rennes are stupid?
No. It's called negotions. If (big IF but this is how it is portrayed by the media) the player - or his Mum - has decided he should go to Dortmund, there's nothing Rennes could do other than either keeping him or selling him to BVB. The Puma connection of Rennes and Dortmund might help to get the deal done.

It's a bit reminiscent of the transfer of Mikel Merino. The president of Osasuna requested an outrageous amount - IMHO to please the fan base - and in the end Dortmund got a deal not too far from what their first offer was.

Time will tell if and how it pans out. Some media outlets claimed the move will be announced on May 14th so it might not take long before we find out.

Go in there woody, slam 20 on the table and walk out with Dembele under your arm!

Reportedly Rennes rejected 35m from Barcelona so I guess the hidden stepping stone is not money ...

He most likely has agreed personally to join Dortmund. I doubt we will get involved.

Reputable sources?
I'm too lazy to check back but it could be even in this thread. My key point is: It was reported by Guardian and others that his Mom defines Dembele's career for him and it was her who refused his wish to leave in summer 2015 but stay at Rennes. She has to be convinced the overall package - which includes his development as a football player, not just finances - a certain destination offers her son is right for his development. Therefore it isn't a primary matter of money Rennes demands but of what Mummy Dembele finds suitable for her son. If she says no to Barcelona, United, City etc but yes to Dortmund or Bayern, Rennes will finally have to give in.

PS: Just to be sure my point comes across correctly: I'm not saying the deal is done or it couldn't be hijacked. All I'm saying that the most decisive factor is his Mom and not the transfer fee asked by Rennes.
