Our Rivals Squad's next year - Liverpool 2015/2016

They've done good business so far this window it seems.

All their senior completed signings are upgrades on what they had last season (Ings>Lambert; Milner>Gerrard (last season's); Bogdan>Jones), and the young centre-back they've got from Charlton is apparently promising - pretty good for whatever they've spent on tribunal fees and Milner's signing on fee and wages.

Now they are actually spending real money on this Firmino, it looks like they'll be in better condition than last season, which they'll need to be with the Europa League to manage.

Liverpool fans never, ever cease to amaze me.

Talking to my friend who's a pool fan, and I was saying if United want to be a top team again we need a centre back, holding mid, right back and possibly a striker at least to compete at the top again. His reply?

"We don't need much I don't reckon just another quality striker a cb and a rb but probably gonna promote youth players we one of the strongest midfields now" (exact quote from a text)

Okay. Liverpool's midfield is alright. I'm impressed with Henderson's progress and Coutinho's ability, but who the feck else is there? He actually said that Lucas adds quality too. Brilliant

I just told him that Liverpool genuinely had a poor showing last season and it's ridiculous to suggest you're alright and you only need a couple of improvements in certain positions.

Oh, and he doesn't rate Smalling at all - obviously. Says Sahko and Skrtel are miles better.

Jheez. Blood boiling.

Lucas is a pretty good CDM. Not as good as he was a few years back, but he's far from useless.

Smalling is class, though.

Aye but the proof is in the pudding - we completely overran their midfield both home and away and we don't exactly have the strongest, most together and well balanced midfield!

You've got a manager that doesn't play midfielders in defence, though... At least not as often, haha.

Are you talking about Can? He had a few good showings in the centre of your defence didn't he? Decent player but certainly him and his midfield colleagues don't give you one of the best midfields in the league that doesn't need any improving.

He was decent at CB, but completely exposed at RB. Pretty ridiculous to play him there with Manquillo, Toure (who's played RB), and even Johnson fit to play.

We've nowhere near the best midfield in the league, although I don't see United's as being that far ahead of ours (probably a controversial opinion, I know). Herrera is a cut above anything we have in CM, and Carrick on a good day is an asset to any team, but he's getting on a bit now.

I think the scouse will challenge for top 4 again. They've made a few good signings.
I wish we would get our business done as quickly.

Aren't they about to buy Firminho?

Looks a quality player. I'd say they are a better defender away from challenging for top four again.

Given the way we faded horribly at the end of last season, I'm more concerned we'll now go and pay stupid money for players who will perform as badly as Di Maria and Falcao

crap lb, in fact, crap defenders in general, crap keeper, nothing on the bench.

Yeah he isn't great, but he was an experienced member of their squad.

I think people are seriously underrating Steling. He carried them at times. Without him I don't know how much impact Firminho will make.

Yeah, I think Sterling is a great player, some seem to really think he's nothing special though.

It would almost be funny if Liverpool won the league next year just to see Gerrard's face.

BTW, any Scouse fans help me out, who has left from the first post so far?

Aspas, Johnson, Gerrard and Jones.
Alberto supposedly loan deal has expired at Malaga and they don't want to extend it, Ilori back with us too.

Liverpool seem to be conducting decent business in the transfer market so far; nothing that will make them title challengers, but surely make them compete for the top 4.

I think Ings is a decent punt at arbitration fee, Milner will give them some of the experience that they lost with Gerrard, and Firmino is talent with a huge upside from that I have read on here. I think they'll be happy if they can secure the Kovacic signing. None of them are really top signings, but in the situation 'Pool are, all they can hope is getting good young players with the potential to improve.

Once again, very good signing for Liverpool. At their level I mean. Clyne will be a good addition to their team.

I think that this year they are making quick additions and clever ones. Knowing the PL will be an advantage for Ings, Milner and Clyne.

This will improve their selection, and if I can't see them pushing for the title, I think that they will be challenger for top4 to be honest. Especially if we're not improving the team

Nathaniel Clyne set to sign a five-year contract at Anfield. Medical likely to be next week when he has returned from holiday.

We are not messing around this summer, nice to see!

Another upgrade for them:

Clyne > Johnson
Ings > Lambert
Milner > Gerrard (last season)
Bogdan > Jones (not too hard - he's terrible)

Add to that Firmino and they are having a damn good window on the face of it, with (eventually) Sterling paying for most of it.

I think that's underrating him - he was the third ranked player in the Bundesliga last year. That puts him in the Sanchez/Aguero/Suarez category as an all round game changer. I thought their transfer business to this point had been treading water - now I would expect a serious top 4 challenge and possibly more (if they can keep Sturridge healthy).

Impressed with their transfer dealings. Not messing around this time, and the players seem to be much better fits.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with what we've done so far. Even better is, with Johnson & Gerrard leaving, our wage bill won't be that different (it'll probably lower), despite signing the likes of Milner on decent money.

They've signed decent players, nothing to elevate them to the next level in my opinion. Also consider Firmino is probably Sterling's replacement.

That's fair. While we've upgraded key positions of our squad, they're positions we've had filled with crap for at least a season now  We're seemingly bringing those positions up to par with the rest of our squad.

I do think you will push for at least one top quality player, especially if you get a good fee for Sterling. Getting this business done early can only be a good thing.

Benteke, Kovacic, Firmino & Clyne would be good enough for me. All four improve our starting XI, with Clyne & Firmino bought with the money from selling Sterling, and Kovacic & Benteke coming in under perhaps £40m combined once we sell the other deadwood in the squad. I mean, if we can get £5m for Aspas and Lambert, it'll help.

I'd say the top quality player they've signed is Firmino and they're using the inevitable Sterling money coming in to buy him. I highly doubt they are going to go out and sign another player for £25m+ as I doubt they have the budget. If Sterling leaves for £35m (£10m to QPR) and you assume Milner/Ings cost around £10m total, Clyne will be £12.5m and Firmino was £29m you are looking at maybe £25m left total in their budget if you assume they will spend £40m. I also can't see any of their fringe players bringing any extra cash in.

I personally still think they need a central defender, defensive midfielder and striker. Not a chance they get those 3 positions sorted with quality players for around £25m, though.

Not sure how you know our budget when most Liverpool fans are just guessing on that too.

The likes of Enrique, Lucas, Lambert, Borini and maybe others may bring in funds, plus any sold are off the wage bill which can make a big difference.
We have already received £5m for Aspas as well as getting 2 high earners in Gerrard and Johnson off the books.

I haven't a clue if we will sign anyone else but we are still being linked with strikers.

I'm just judging by your current financial situation in addition to the lack of CL funds next year.

I can't imagine FSG pumping tens of millions in.

I understand your points but here is definitely a change in policy in our business this summer.

To be honest after the last summer window I didn't think FSG would allow much spending at all and then Firmino arrived. Like you we assume Sterling will be gone and the money being used to fund other players.
If there is an additional budget on top of that , including sales, I don't see why we won't buy another striker for decent money, assuming the club are after one.

Priorities had to be up front, and we were desperate for a right back with Flanagan still on the long term injury list.

I think you've done well so far. I just feel you'll probably only have around £20m left to spend (once Sterling is sold) and you'll either have to spend it all on someone like Kovacic and pray Sturridge and your CBs stay fit; spend it all on Bacca and hope Can steps up and stays fit (as well as your CBs) or spend it on 3 hopeful punts.

That's before you even think about the goalkeeper situation - if Mignolet repeats last season's early form it'll cost you dearly.
