Our Rivals Squad's next year - Liverpool 2015/2016

I think Liverpools biggest problem is that Rodgers has absolutely no idea how to build a squad. He had never had to do it before, his relative success elsewhere came with prebuilt squads with set play styles that he only had to add too. Here he has had the money, and need, to rebuild the whole thing. And has singularly failed to do so.

It is the second season in a row he has bought a large but relatively agile forward and not played wingers who will cross the ball in to him. Heck yesterday they wouldnt even cross corners in to him.

The defence, despite a complete personnel change at a cost of tens of millions, has the exact same faults today it did in Rodger's first season. At 2-0 down at home to west ham, his substitutions means pool had 5 (FIVE) defenders on the pitch. And Benteke on his own up front (later with Ings). And basically absolutely nothing connecting the two. Hes fecking woeful. KRAP indeed.

I think United vs Liverpool game will be a dull affair, maybe 1 or 2 goals max. Rodgers will set his team ultra-defensive, and United doesn't have much penetration. Not something for neutral audience to enjoy.

To be fair, I can see why Liverpool fans would forget about Rooney scoring 3 and Memphis scoring 2 in a Champions League tie after the competition so carelessly lost Liverpool.

I didn't forget but maybe you should have. That's why I said PL.

Joking aside both Utd and us are looking dreadful for chances at the moment. I'm sure both us will get it right eventually.

If Rooney actually remembered that shooting was a key part of being a striker he'd have bagged a few by now. Once again he managed to fluff 3 good chances.

Was thinking of starting a separate thread about this but might as well keep it here. The status of the top 5 (i.e. top four hopefuls) is going as thus. Will leave City out for obvious reasons:

Chelsea have played Swansea(H), City(A), West Brom(H) and Palace(A). Expected points 9-10. Current points 4
Arsenal have played West Ham(H), Palace(A), Liverpool(H) and Newcastle(A). Expected points 10-12. Current points 7
Utd have played Spurs(H), Villa (A), Newcastle(H) and Swansea(A). Expected points 8-10. Current points 7
Liverpool have played Stoke(A), Bournemouth(H), Arsenal(A) and West Ham(H). Expected points 7. Current points 7

Goes without saying everyone (bar City) is playing crap. Only Liverpool are on par with the number of points they were realistically expected to get at this stage (most had us down for a draw with Stoke away and losing - being thrashed actually - to Arsenal as did I).

Next match is against Utd where I'm expecting both Utd and Liverpool to draw. So 1 point each. Utd getting 3 points is more likely (being at home) than Liverpool (away) getting the max. More importantly, that will be three of the 'tough' 7 away fixtures in a row out of the way.

You lost 3-0 at home to West Ham.

You lost 3-0 at home to West Ham.

A team destined to finish 5th lost 3-0 against West Ham at home.

A team destined to win the league lost 2-0 at home to West Ham not so long before.

Not sure where you're going with this to be honest so I'll leave it to you to explain.

Accepted a £10m offer for Borini! I'd take a £1m loss (plus wages) to get rid of this lad today... I'll even drive him there myself.

Please go. Please go. Please go.

A miserably glum weekend has taken a surprisingly bright turn.

Indeed. It still annoys me we missed out on selling him last year. Regardless of the fake medical results nonsense, I truly believe if we shipped him off last year, we would've been able to bring Remy in, but nope... Lost out on £3m and a years wages because he wanted to "prove his worth" (sit on the bench).

West Ham who ?

I'll never understand decisions like that to give armbands to new players. I mean if we're talking about a truly great and experienced player then it would make more sense than James Milner...
Milner was deservedly made vice-captain, so obviously in the absence of Henderson he gets the arm-band. Personally I'd have made him captain. I don't think longevity at a club should supersede suitability.

Ilori possibly off to Villa. From the BBC page...

"Still time for this one though. Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori joins Aston Villa on a season-long loan. I believe loan fee is £1m - option to buy which could be at £6-9m."

Good, Illori needs game time against decent opposition. I don't think he has what it takes to make it with us (Lovren problem aside :( ) but you never know.
