Other Wingers?

Exactly. It feels like some fans have been convinced that defending over attacking is the way forward
we should sack mourinho if it isn't, instead of saying over and over again that 'his madrid team scored 100 goals in la liga' and expecting that to mean we are on the verge of being some attacking force

Between the Perisic links and now Danny Rose, it seems like we are going for a wing back and a shift to 3 at the back rather than a pure winger. Spurs played 3 at the back last season when Rose was fit but had to shift back to 4 at the back when he was injured

Willian would be perfect for us (although basically ungetatable).

  • Deadball specialist.
  • Mourinho trusts him.
  • Technically very good.
  • Very fast.
  • Great passer.
  • Good crosser.
  • Will be motived to get into the Brazil first-team ahead of the likes of Coutinho for the World Cup.
  • Has improved his finishing last year.

Surprised Jose hasn't made an attempt to bring AdM back.

Imagine the backlash from the fans and Café members if he did sign AdM :lol:. Not that Jose would give a stuff as long as it worked out on the pitch for him.

That's what would've made it so glorious. ;)

I get the impression AdM is one of the player Jose claims he would've have allowed to leave if he was here at the time.

The caf almost instantly pretend any signing is a great signing once it goes through, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Gauge the tone of responses to links to Perisic as it became clear it wasn't 'bollocks' and could actually happen.

I don't quite get the hate for ADM. He already said he left because of LVG and not because he hates the club.

Really? He was a coward on the pitch.

Never wanted to be here in the 1st place and left as soon as he could.

Pretty much defines our shite transfer policy in the last few years.

Who cares what the Caf thinks? Very divided on signing Matic, who's looked excellent so far. But as for AdM he's really not looked the same player on a consistent basis since he left Real.

I'd have AdM back- LVG really did stifle players- he didn't play badly at times and he's certainly better than the options we have (bar Martial who isn't allowed to play)

All good points- after Matic though I think this would cause Conte to explode

How do people know this? Am I missing something he said?

He said he wanted to go to PSG and it seemed they were going to the destination but they were stifled by FFP, meaning we were the mugs who took him on.

As soon as PSG could get him they did, and he fecked off. I don't need to read quotes to work out that his heart was never in it and he couldn't wait to leave.

I agree although it would be hilarious. And yeah I don't think Di Maria has done anything of note since the red card vs Arsenal to be honest.

Firstly, Bale does not wanna come to United. Secondly, Isco as the No. 10 was the best player yesterday. He was given the free license to be attacking in every position. The guy is phenomenal and is still only 25. So some things to take note off were that our midfield was pretty decent. Herrera, Pogba and Matic kinda worked but what we lacked was the link between midfield and attack. We had Lingard, Mhiki and Lukaku in attack. Lingard and Mhiki are NOT exceptional wingers. Mhiki plays his best when behind the striker and his link up play is a lot better. Jose needs to trust Mhiki with the role what Real give Isco. If we take a look at our winger situation, Rashford, Martial, Lingard, Mata, Mhiki.... Out of the 5, neither of them are actual wingers.... Martial I guess could be considered a winger because of his ability to beat his man. Lingard goes missing.... He offers work rate but is just not good enough to start for us. He can't beat his man.... He usually thrives when getting the ball in space and him trying to outrun his man. Our wingers in the past have had two main qualities... ability to beat their man with trickery and pace and most importantly having the ability to provide pin point crosses consistently for our strikers to attack. Our more effective wingers (of the modern era) have been Beckham, Giggs, Ronaldo, Nani and Valencia. Now, it doesn't take a genius to notice that our current bunch don't possess those skills and we can't keep blaming our strikers for the lack of goals when our wingers are just not good enough. Bale would have been a good option for us but he won't come and he's a risk as well since he's injury prone. Draxler would have been a good option as well but trying to get him from PSG would be difficult. We need atleast one WORLD CLASS WINGER to connect the midfield to attack and help Lukaku score his goals. Lukaku thrives on service and can go missing if our wingers aren't doing their job. Dembele or anyone out there who can meet the criteria that I've mentioned earlier needs to come in or otherwise we are just going to struggle and even bringing Zlatan back won't help our team.

Hmm why not Felipe Anderson? Good age, had a good season with Lazio, works his socks off defensively as well.

Not even him destroying Barca in Paris last season?

Spot on this is.

I really rate miki but he has to be played centrally....

Of Lingard, Mata, Miki, Martial and Rashford when played out wide only Martial really offers any threat to go past a man. Rashford uses his pace, but is clearly suited to a central striker role.

Lingard offers nothing, Mata and Miki drift inside (as they are both no,10's), leaving no width and over reliance on our full back.

We are crying out for pure width

Backlash? He was fed up with bench role under lvg, so he left.

Dembele
Bale
Willian
Angel Di Maria
Lucas Moura
Perisic
Coman
Carrasco
Sanchez

All of these players are quick, they can beat their man and are decent at crossing the ball.

I agree, not so much the wing back comment but more an all round team playing winger who can get back and help the team and perform a role rather than an out and out winger, which Perisic fits perfectly....not what I want personally.

I would take any of the three Dortmund wingers Dembele is the obvious one (even though he is nowhere near the finished article the talent is there). Pulisic is also excellent and the player who doesnt seem to have settled Emre Mor has immense talent as well, prob ,pre than the other two. Amazing they havent really missed Reus at all.

Be interested to see how Cenzig Under does at Roma as I really think we have missed out on a player this summer that could be the next big thing.

As for a Mourinho type winger Bale is by far the most obvious one and best fit. Apart from that I would say Insigne, hugely under rated, talent, hard working team player.

I dare say that there is no 'out and out winger' again in modern football. The most successful teams of the modern era, attack together and defend together as a unit.

What Jose needs to get right is how to set up his teams to spend more time attacking than defending. He does pretty well in this regard when playing weaker teams but against equally strong or stronger opponents, his teams tend to spend more time defending and in such instances, wingers with impressive defensive abilities, win him over.

Still would have really loved to see Bernardo Silva here too. Reckon he'll be amazing at City. Him and Martial wide would have been great I think. He's not an android though so was probably never a real option.

Funny how in the modern game most positions are supposedly specialists, and not all round yet width wise they are expected to be all round nowadays. I do still think there are plenty about Robben, Ribery and Coman of Bayern for starters, we havent got any.....we need one in my opinion

Need something on the left, Martial is too indecisive, he is our best option there but he is regularly being benched because of his performances, it looks like perisic or nothing, douglas costa was an option, he is pretty dynamic but you are wary when bayern let him go and none of the bigger sides made a move, so do we give in and pay the fee for perisic, he would be a very good addition, just pay the money, we will be over paying but that is the market, the squad has been mismanaged for the large part after SAF left and the PL is so competitive now if you need to pay to rectify that in the short term so be it to get us to the top again, the manager has displayed his credentials, he got back in the CL and won trophies in challenging circumstances while rebuilding, btw we are talking about £50m, that is the new £25m, city signed kyle walker for £50m to fill a gap they think they needed.

I agree that we need one too.

But the idea of 'specialist' used in the modern game must be contextualized. There is no top striker that simply stays in front to strike. When the opponent has the ball, you hassle them, you defend from the front. Wingers these days are partners with their full backs. Marcello and Ronaldo are often a beauty to watch whenever Ronaldo is attacking from the left.

It's amazing how Messi and Ronaldo track back when their teams are defending for their lives while some fans talk about some 'lesser' players not needing to track back.

Ramos famously attacks the ball in the opposition camp while Ronaldo is known to head the ball out from his own team's 18 yard box when Madrid is defending set pieces. In modern football, defenders attack and attackers defend.

Dembele = Possible, but Dortmund would skin us alive. Also probably Barca bound.
Bale = clearly staying at madrid
Willian = will never be allowed to join us after the Matic transfer
Angel Di Maria = would happily have him back but he seems much happier in Paris
Lucas Moura = probably available (but supposedly a very frustrating player)
Perisic = we tried
Coman = Just signed for Bayern
Carrasco = transfer ban, remember??
Sanchez = Will never be sold to us, not at any price.

All of these players are quick, they can beat their man and are decent at crossing the ball.
So in conclusion, the only player you have listed that's realistically attainable is Lucas Moura.

Agree with all of the above, especially the bolded part.

What ever happened to the boy Yarmalenko, played with kiev i think it was, Similar type of player to perisic, brilliant left foot, works hard for the team, big and strong as well. seems a typical Jose signing.

Tottenham are pursuing Balde Keita, he looks like a real talent and wouldn't mind a punt on him.

Absolutely agree with you, been impressed whenever I've seen him. Looks like hes still at Dynamo Kiev. pretty much scored 20 goals in each of the last 4 seasons, amazed no one has looked at him.

He's a Jose player for sure, maybe he has no desire to leave ukraine.

I still think Jose may go in late for Sanchez with an offer Arsenal will find difficult to refuse. Cannot see why we aren't going in for him anyway - he is the goal-scoring wide-forward we need. He's far from an ideal winger obviously but he's one of the best players in the league and with him being in the final year of his contract we wouldn't have to pay £100m+ or something ridiculous.
