Onana has not worked out. We need a new keeper.

Controversial opinion he will be fine long term may not look like it at the moment but he will get his bearing right soon enough .
Sorry I don't see it at all he may have games where he looks good but some of the stuff he does is pure calamity there are occasions where a straight shot at goal he palms it into dangerous areas or his reactions are just weird he brings no confidence as an actual keeper to the team or fans imo and his inconsistency as a keeper is good for a mid table team but not a bigger club, after de gea dropped form all I wanted to see was a keeper that was solid and commands his area comes for crosses etc something we haven't had since vds I could care less about being soo good on the floor where does it leave us ? Too open just look at the champions league games high scoring losses or draws we need a better keeper and defence/midfield.

We finished third last season, played more competitive games than any other European side, getting to two finals and winning one of them....and de Gea was supposed to be the problem??

So what's the story now??

Ye interesting at least - what do you mean by 'less blockers'? Less than what?
Less than in penalty kick, or when player goes through on goal into 1 vs 1 against GK inside the box, or a tap in in front of open goal from 2 vs 1 against the GK, or rounding the GK and walk the ball in....

Those situation are high in xG xGA value.

For £50 million, I hope you are proved correct. Every team needs a reliable keeper who can be trusted; Onana is unpredictable, capable of great saves but also terrible mistakes. The second goal he conceded last night has really made me doubt him. A lower league keeper would have dealt with that. There is no point having a keeper who is good with his feet but who messes up routine saves. Time will tell if he can recover the situation.

Oh we’d undoubtedly have more points this season if he was in goal. This guy got the golden glove ffs.

Like De Gea, he lacks the concentration to be a top GK for a top team. Van der Saar was a great example of a goalie who could do nothing for 89 minutes but then pull of a top save when required.

Basically we had a keeper that was good with his hands but bad with his feet and now we have one that is good with his feet but bad with his hands.

We just need a keeper who is good with both, like Alisson.

This is not on the scouting department, it's on EtH and anyone who gave him so much power.
To be fair, the scouting department should be flagging concerns and pushing more suitable alternatives in the manager wants players that aren’t suitable. Their job is to identify the best possible players for our squad, so if we are overpaying for the likes of Antony and Sancho they are not an effective department. Its also their job to find out about players and flag a personal issues or attitude traits so we don’t end up with Sancho situations.

For goals conceded in his opening run of games, this has got to be as bad as anything in the clubs history right?
Of course he’s not at fault for all 30 goals or whatever it is, but when you think of the CL games in particular, it’s been pretty grim.

We simply don't know if the scouting department did do this and Murtough choose to ignore them. It might be their fault, it might be his fault.

Raya was my preferred realistic option in the summer. He would have been cheaper than this clown and is cooking up a storm at Arsenal

The Onana believers have been banging on about the Defenders in front of him...2 Freekicks last night .. wall should have been better for that , he sets the WALL..!

1st one ..just goes in, 2nd saw it all the way and I don't know what he was trying to do, 3rd one was good strike at near post that's a 50/50..

A game last night never in danger then those 2 freekicks made it , the ones he saved he looked sketchy on.. all of his Massive errors have been in CL..

How long do we wait for those Errors to stop... going to get quoted now on DDG did this at start of his utd career etc etc .. that guy was young and inexperienced, Onana isn't and that's why he's been bought.. .

We have to stick with him but for how long.. Eth is stubborn .. let's see who goes in goal when he's of to ACON..

Where's the stats to back up he's been good with his feet at United? His distribution - at least from the eye test - has been average if not awful. Just when you think you can't get a worse signing that Antony or Sancho, this guy turns up.

Last night especially when he’s more than once smashing the ball out of his hands straight to an attacking opponent. He simply is t the player we thought we were signing.

His technique for saving shots is nothing like I’ve seen before. Really odd ways of making saves that have and will catch him out.

Such a poor signing

I'm completely baffled at what he was attempting for the second.

On that second free kick, his attempt to punch the ball upward rather than save it was really bizarre. It was such a routine save to make as well. And even if he’d managed to punch it, he’d have just been teeing up someone to head it in. So weird.

It’s been said a bunch of times, but his technique on saves is akin to an outfield player having to go in goal after your proper goalie is sent off and you’ve run out of subs. I’m terrified with every shot he faces, which is not the feeling you should get from your goalkeeper. God knows what the players think. Feels like a coin toss over whether he’ll make the save or cock it up completely.

Probably time to start looking for a new keeper next summer. Maybe he'll turn it around but you need someone reliable in between the sticks and this guy ain't it.

It's easier to blame low profile, voiceless people though.

Yeah, every time there’s a shot on goal and it looks harmless, I’m still nervous because who knows what Onana will do

Probably. I think the fans should pay for this one. We backed the manager at their request, and massively got it wrong.

£300 on to all the season tickets from next summer to correct the mistakes made at the fans request.

Back the manager surcharge.

ACON will salvage our season hopefully. It shoulsn't be too hard to take his place considering the standard he's shown so far

What you saying tonight Lads? :wenger:
I still think he'll be more consistent over time. But whether he will be given enough time is another question. I can see him being sold if Ten Hag gets the sack. Still fully behind him though, even if I didn't see DDG as a big problem to begin with because I didn't think GK was a priority... wanted us to sign another midfielder instead.

On the first one he couldnt have known that the wall would open up a huge gap for Ziyech to shoot through so what was he supoosed to do, if the wall did its job that goal is never scored therefore the wall is at least equally at fault if not fully.

On the 2nd one Martial put him off by flicking his head like he was going to head it clear but didnt actually jump, that should have been an eaay headed clearance by Martial so he is at fault there and also why was it Martial in there anyway.

On the 3rd goal the entire back 4 went missing and left poir Kobbie Mainoo to have to try to defend it on his own.

Im sure if you go back and look through the mistakes Onana has made the majority will be shots that he only had to face because the defense didnt do there jobs right in the first place, any keeper would struggle with a back 4 that goes missing and doesnt do its job properly.

Wait, you think the two Galatasary players in the wall were there to defend for us? :wenger:

For the rest of the post, unless this is Onana's secret account, I'm going to assume you're just wumming.

I was fine giving Onana a slight excuse for the first because he was unsighted, but the second and third (especially the second) were just outright poor goalkeeping. Mental that anyone is trying to blame the defence for them going in.

I'm sorry this post is delusional. BBC Football said today that Onana is the worst keeper in the UCL since the 2018-2019 season with 7 costly errors leading to opposition goals AND squarely laid the blame on yesterdays game on "hapless" Onana. He just isn't good enough! The EPL is vastly different/faster than the Dutch or Italian leagues and he hasn't adapted well.

He needs to be replaced ASAP, he creates nervousness throughout the team as seen last night after his clangers, we said the same last season about the defence because of de gea errors

What is wumning about that post, everything is correct?

The 2 Galatasaray players werent in the wall as they arnt legally allowed in the wall and were in fact illegally positioned as they have to be at least a metre from the wall and wernt.

The fact is the players in the wall should not have left a gap like that.

The fact that Onana has made more saves than any other keeper in the Premier League bar 1 tells you all you need to know about our defence's inability to actually defend.

I agree it would be weird to give a contract to a potential employee that wasn't signed by the company before and never experienced it myself in my professional life. But would such a thing surprise me at United? No.

It would be scandalous for a business enterprise to present a contract to a player and then refuse to sign the contract after the player himself signed it. As reported at the time, this is exactly what happened. Truly disgusting behavior by the club.

We presented him with a contract that he sat on for ages and only tried to accept after his form had gone to shit.

The club absolutely could have handled his departure better, but it's not as simple as us withdrawing a contract right after offering it.

It might be more understandable if the player held out from signing the contract for years, as they, despite being past their peak and on a stupidly high contract, wanted again to wring the club for every penny they had.

Loyalty works both ways. He’d be on hundreds of thousands and a long contract if he wasn’t so greedy and accepted he was overpaid in relation to his contribution over the last few years.

He has this tendency to make basic saves look spectacular, which is never a good thing with a goalkeeper. Barthez was a bit like that.

I can’t even understand what he was doing for the second goal. I half wished Martial had got a touch on it to make it an own goal because, the alternative is simply too bizarre to contemplate. It looks like he’s scooping the ball into his own goal.

Only explanation I can come up with is that he’s in deep debt and being forced to throw champions league games by the mob.
