Omar Berrada | Man Utd CEO

Not gonna lie, I wasn't for Ratcliffe/INEOS because it wasn't a 100% buyout and there was no official commitment or plan laid out to address the debt and I definitely still have concern because the money sucking Glazers are still involved and the possibility INEOS will just use us like the Glazers did.

But fairplay if this is how they do their business, no weeks/months of dragging on only for it to not happen It just happens out of nowhere without even a hint. Hopefully Berrada will take the next 4 months and have a list of what players to target and what players to get rid of and have plan to have the majority of our business done by the start of the pre-season tour.

I have read the Athletic article in full, and my impressions is let's see how he pans out. From what I know about City, their success is built on Pep's genius, Soriano's and Txiki's leadership, and of course, Khaldoon's financial backing.

Omar might have been a decent operator behind the scenes and could potentially grow into the CEO role, but he certainly isn't the second coming of Christ.

Because that’s what everybody else is claiming in this thread.

How much investment and employees does Saudi and INEOS hire in the UK? SJR and the Saudis don't like being messed around. One can only google INEOS threatens UK to know what I am saying

No one has actually suggested this to be fair.

I think everyone’s impressions are let’s see how it pans out. Just more that people are optimistic because the noises coming out of the city camp are that he was very influential and was earmarked to take either Soriano's and Txiki's.

No one is suggesting he is the second coming of Christ. But he feasibly could be as well. Having someone with his background as CEO, is night and day compared to what we have had in recent times. Hence the overwhelming optimism.

Thank you. It still seems the responsibilities step a little on the toes of the Sporting Director and Chief Scout to me though

I’d have expected the Sporting Director to dictate the play style and the profile of player the club should target. (Meaning the club “philosophy” stays the same when managerial changes happen)

Whereas I would expect the chief scout to be working with his team of scouts around the world to produce a list of players who match the club play style

But maybe I have it wrong

I would be very cautious about this move... if City get done there's no chance this guy getting the nod like he's done nothing and didn't know anything was going on.

My guess is they are working from top down,so next will likely be the Sporting Director who reports to Berrada
For the sporting director position, keep your eye on Pino of Roma. Leaving them on February 3rd. Only 35/36 years old. Already had the position at two big clubs and is tipped for a bigger club

Everyone getting very excited at us "poaching" a guy no-one had ever heard of.

Let's see if there's any positive difference first!

Stop yelling at us. We are just looking at the bright side!

What is wrong with being excited with news that we have our first CEO with footballing credentials in over a decade?

Hard not to be excited. Everyone who has been brought in already (JCB, Brailsford, Omar) has a great CV and everyone who we are linked to bringing in below them (Ashworth, Mitchell) also have great CVs.

This one of those things I'm not sure whether to be excited or nervous?? I have trouble believing the COO had no idea of any of those 115 charges.

And I hope we continue to not hear of him. Just needs to do his job well without any noise around it.

It's probably one of those things. I reckon he knew the club was dodgy but was so focused on his job that he just pushed it to the back of his head. Same with the rest of them. Pep, the players, the ceo, Txiki.

I wonder if we're lining up anyone else from City. I can't remember who reported it but there was a report from a couple of months ago that said Ratcliffe wants to structure United like City.

RedCafe - putting a best-in-class backroom team together is the biggest priority, no manager can succeed when forced to work under these incompetent clowns

SJR appoints industry-leading CEO

RedCafe - Haven't heard of him. How important is a CEO? It's what happens on the pitch that's important.

Some people will never miss an opportunity to be pessimistic

It makes sense, INEOS knows how to use offshore accounts.

:D

We'll see how much he can actually do. We are still owned by Glazers and people have been jaded by over a decade of us being shit.

That said, it is factually true that we have not had a CEO this competent since David Gill and whatever anybody thinks of Berrada, it is impossible to deny that he is head and shoulders more qualified than fecking Ed Woodward or Richard Arnold. It's just a fact, so let's see what this more qualified person will achieve.

We could have done much worse than Berrada. He is suprisingly good appointment, considering who still owns us

Would it have been possible to do any better? Pretty huge move from the club. Fair fecking play.

I can't give an opinion on this guy as tbh I'd never heard of him. But it really feels positive, things are changing.
Maybe our banter era is coming to an end

I don't think so. Between Blanc, Brailsford and Berrada we are one Nigel Wray away from forming the biggest set of cheats in Sport history. I personally like it because in theory, these lads will try to use every loopholes possible, to the benefit of United.

The more amusing thing is its probably the most views that Citys shitty documentary has gotten

But maybe I have it wrong

This is how I see it. Sporting director sits at the very top of the football pyramid and is answerable to the CEO who tackles business as well. He's basically the CEO for the sports section. Below him there's the manager (tactics, team morale, coaching), head scout (scouting), head of academy (academy) and technical director (who monitors the transition of academy players to first team) etc.

The advantage of that setup is that it protects the manager on many counts Take Antony for example. ETH keeps playing Antony because he is 'his signing' and if he tanks then that reflects badly on him. Also note that if an influential player gets too old and he doesn't deserve to keep earning his huge salary then its easier to get rid of him without the manager suffering the repercussions of player power. That's because if morale tanks then the maximum players can achieve is to sack the manager whom (99%) will take the players side. That what happened at Juventus when they decided that it was time for Del Piero to go.

The trouble with that setup is that the departments are so distinct that they do not work with one another. That what happened at Inter for example during Silvestre's time. The manager would ask for a striker only for him to end up with 2 LBs simply because Branca (DOF/Sporting director) believed that the squad needed a LB more then he needed a striker. United had struggled with this as well. For example its evident that VDB (Ole) and Fred (Mou) weren't wanted by the manager.

Thus you need someone whose role is to coordinate all stakeholders (manager, scouts, head of negotiating, academy, data analysts) and make sure that everyone is on the same page and aiming for the same goal. His also on the constant lookup on bargains (ie he would want to be the first to know that player X wants to leave), building relationships with clubs and agents and to know if player Y who seem a genius on the pitch has any negative character traits (ex he tend to play FIFA till early morning). Let's not forget that the average player today cost 60m + will probably earn 150k a week for let's say 5 years. That's another 40m. So the last thing the club wants is to spend 100m on the wrong type of player.

Now the sporting director has too much on his plate to go through every transfers and involve himself at every step in every deal (ins and outs). The scouts, the data analysts and the transfer negotiator can tackle an aspect of a transfer. What brings all together transfer wise is the head of recruitment or something of that kind (clubs might have different titles for that type of job)

How can you be so adamant about that? What kind of public CV did Isho bar-Maryam have when he first popped up by Lake Galily back in the day?

Expect him to get found personally responsible for the 115 and banned for life around a month after he joins us.

Long story short. Is it good? Or is he the Woodward internal promotion of City?
I don't recall Woodward ever being tapped up by top European clubs or NFL franchises. I also don't recall Woodward putting in 7 years of work at another top club before landing a job at United. Woodward was a banker that landed a job because he helped the Glazers take over United.
