Omar Berrada | Man Utd CEO

He became a caretaker manager as soon as the INEOS deal got approved.
Absolutely, at a point in this whole restructuring he’s going to be asked “are you willing to work under this new structure?”, and that will be one that involves him having very little to do with recruitment, except maybe being involved in conversations regarding areas to strengthen. Which means he’ll be judged purely on the results and the way the team play. So even if he does accept his role being marginalised, he won’t last long if things stay like this.

What exactly did he ‘lord’ over? He wasn’t involved in any of the sponsorship deals, he’s been largely on the football side of things.
Well, he was the CEO, so I guess he managed the club. He would surely have known about what was going on.
And even if just transfers, there were surely dodgy payments involved there too.

Was he in charge of/played a part in player contracts? Hasn't everyone kinda assumed they've been making hidden payments to players for years now?

Perhaps this chap wasn't involved at all, I have no idea, but Man City's dodgyness isn't just sponsorship deals.

It's sad that a good CEO appointment is was constitutes a game changer for a football club.

Of course because CEOs are supossed to be competent but the ones we had were impotent in their decisions making. Things that are normal for other clubs are improvement to us.

Dunno why people are anxious about him being involved in Citeh charges. We use his service to improve he club and if he is found guilty, sack him and find a new CEO. Its that simple. He is not the manager, player or coaching staff. He should be easier to replace. Its just that we held on for too long keeping our CEOs and other people who are clearly shit at their jobs. I hope INEOS will be more relentless when dealing with useless money drains. Unlike the stupid Glazers. Omar does stupid things (including lying because surely theyve talked about it before appointing him), Omar gets the sack. Thats how it should be.

Thing is if this was an MCFC or Liverpool appointment you’d be disappointed that they’re “continuing to strive for elite success, we should be doing that” but because we’re doing it, it’s a “sad” - Is this forum never fecking happy? Are we always looking for the negatives or something?

This is the best appointment we’ve made since SAF coming in from
Aberdeen yet you have people moaning , just feck off.

Poaching the COO of the city group of which City have just won a treble and club World Cup is as good as it gets , we’ve literally got the best out there.

bore off of you can’t see how incredible that is for us.

Oh great, let’s shit on the guy before he’s even started work for then club. :wenger:
Would you expect our rivals to cheer us on? If he’s still posting this stuff when he’s in the job then we have a problem otherwise who cares.

Also Bayern probably did deserve to win in 90mins back in ‘99 but it was fated and what happened in extra time is history!

That's the understatement of the century.

Otherwise both tweets are perfectly fine.

It’s promising to see a different calibre of person being brought in. Have to assume that he has been promised he will have a big say in making a lot of changes and won’t stick around if that is not the case. Same will apply if we also bring in a proper DOF.

The likes of Arnold and Murtough were just happy to ride the gravy train and not rock the boat. They may have had some good intentions but ultimately they were appointed to maintain the status quo, which is exactly what they did.

Maybe we could attract Maldini, however not sure in what role that would be
Mitchell as head of recruitment and ashworth as sporting director are for me.

After nabbing Omar feel more confident we can get Ashworth now

He's never been the CEO of City. He's had multiple roles first at Barca then at City, each one stepping up in responsibility, and appeared to be on course to be their next CEO when their current one left or retired. But he hasn't had that role in the past before joining us.

In saying that, he has been senior enough that I personally doubt he didn't at least know about the dodgy stuff, if not involved personally.

I don't believe press has any Idea who United are targeting for these positions .

Great Coup. I doubted Ratcliffe and has wanted Qatar but this is a statement signing for me and this is how it should be run . Statement signing shouldn't be a player but for a club like us, this is what makes sense . Now the expectation is high. Hopefully they find similar profiles for our Sporting director too. Head of recruitment is a bonus .

There was evidence uncovered of hidden payments to Mancini. I don’t think there’s been any evidence of hidden payments to players and according to their own figures, City have one of the largest wage bills in football. They also spread it across a relatively small first team squad where they focus on quality, not quantity.

Given that they are amongst the best paid players in the world, they get to work with Guardiola and are virtually guaranteed medals, I don’t find it hard to believe that the official figures for their wage bill is accurate.

What is far less plausible (to the extent that they’re being charged for it) is that their income has been hugely - and illegally - inflated. You mentioned dodgy sponsorship deals, but what they’re being charged for is fraud on an industrial scale.

First time we sign someone before the media announces anything.
True.

This kind of decisive move is in stark contrast with the endless delays and prevarication which we've endured over nearly two decades. It's always been clear that the Glazers are awful at making decisions (among other things). They always lacked this key leadership skill.

As much as anything, this appointment, and the manner of it, shows a professionalism that's been sadly lacking before now. I'm hopeful it's a sign of huge change.
God knows we need it.

Sounds like a good move. And a promising sign that it's all been agreed quickly and quietly in the background. Not even a hint of it before it's confirmed.

I guess the financial incentives and theories about him jumping a ship sinking off the weight of 115 charges aside - if he does manage to spearhead us back into the footballing elite, then that'll perhaps be his crowning achievement to top off an already illustrious legacy. That's enough of an incentive I think.

Maybe I’m behind the times but what would a “head of recruitment” even be?

Wouldn’t recruitment be a joint effort between the Sporting Director, Manager and Chief Scout anyway?

hopefully he can return us to the top but am getting vince russo at wcw vibes with this dude

just does not stack up

Head of recruitment is supposed to be a position above the Chief scout and the chief analyst. It can be someone that is independent or one of the DOF's assistant. Basically the position always exist but it's not necessarily formal. Also head coaches aren't really part of this, in the sense that while their input might be valued, it's not necessary.

What are City fan's reactions? Do they even care?

It's such a weird/pitiful state for a fanbase to be in. Getting hyped for signing a businessman.

Tweet got community noted. It does seem pretty wishful thinking that the one senior executive that joins United happens to be the one not involved in the 115 charges.
For context, he was director of partnership sales (Sept 2013 - Jan 2015) and senior VP group commercial director Jan 2015 -September 2016, before moving onto more senior roles at the club, culminating in the COO role in 2020. Its almost inconceivable that he wasn’t involved in the club’s sponsorship deals during this period, and indeed prior to this period, he joined the club in 2011.

We're in a strange era of football where players identities are less important than they used to be. Now it's about the backroom staff, perhaps there will be massive announcement vids for clubs upgrading to Windows 13.
