RedCafe - putting a best-in-class backroom team together is the biggest priority, no manager can succeed when forced to work under these incompetent clowns
SJR appoints industry-leading CEO
RedCafe - Haven't heard of him. How important is a CEO? It's what happens on the pitch that's important.
Some people will never miss an opportunity to be pessimistic
People who hang everything on a managers position are so misguided. It’s always “yeh glazers but” or “Woodward doesn’t train the players”, which makes me twitch everytime.
A better manager at United anytime over the last 11 years would maybe do better relative to the crap we have seen. That’s simply not good enough for me. Uniteds spending and financial strength has been more then enough to win leagues and champions leagues. The strength of the EPL or “poor managers” does not explain uniteds fall so far.
I think of it like I’m coaching my son. Think of it in the same way in a club infrastructure way. I say to him:
Imagine you have a twin brother, both of you are as talented as each other and both have the same potential. One of you does the following:
Targeted diet
Priority rest, sleep and general
Does personal extra training, is never happy at their level
Does not waste energy online social media (toxic for footballers)
Always wants to learn
Targets recovering from setbacks
Focus on improving mental health
Does hobbies that relax
Looks for tips and advice off successful people and peers
The other doesn’t. Which player will be better?
It’s the same with United. United make and spend money and do nothing else that any other elite club would be looking to emulate. United have had the talent but zero drive to make that talent work. They over relied on their money and allowed everything else to fall below elite levels.
Regardless of manager or players , that makes our chances of success much less. And part of the problem is that spending and expectations make the pressure immense and we haven’t give managers or players the proper tools to achieve these goals. What happens is that squads give up or are demoralised.
Think of all the quality signings we’ve made. It’s like they joined thinking “I’m joining a Barca or Real Madrid” and as soon as they get settled they realise the entire infrastructure is second rate. Second rate from elite teams. If you want to be the best then you should be better then the next best.
Elite level sports is elite at all levels. United is the shell of an elite club. A club that looks the part but simply has not been.
